Essential opinion, topic, supporting details (reasons), linking words (because, and also), concluding statement (section), facts, definitions, informative text, explanatory text, narrative, elaborate, sequence, elaborate, action, temporal words (i.e. time order words first, next last..) College and Career Readiness Anchor Standard 1 for Writing: Write arguments to support claims in an analysis in substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence. W.2.1 Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section. 2 nd Grade Enduring Understandings write opinion pieces that clearly state their preferences and supply a reason for their thinking. write a concluding statement to finish their opinion or preference writing. opinion topic (title) supporting details (reasons) linking words (because, and also) concluding statement (section) that their writing comes from their opinion of the topic or book. that their opinion needs to reflect their topic or book. that opinions are supported by reasons. that ideas are connected with linking words. that concluding statements are necessary to summarize your opinion. write opinion pieces in which they introduce their topic or book. supply reasons to support their opinion. use linking words to connect their opinion to their reason. provide a concluding statement or section.

2 College and Career Readiness Anchor Standard 2 for Writing: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content. W.2.2 Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section. 2 nd grade Enduring Understandings develop and write a simple introductory sentence that states the topic. identify facts and opinions within a specific sources. gather facts and definitions from text. utilize learned information to write facts about a topic. write a simple concluding sentence. facts definitions informative text explanatory text topic that informative/ explanatory texts provide factual information. that their facts and definitions need to reflect their topic. that points made are supported by facts. that concluding statements are necessary to summarize informative/explanatory text. write informative/ explanatory texts in which they introduce their topic or book. develop organized points using facts and definitions. provide a concluding statement or section. W.2.3 Write narratives in which they recount a well elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure. 2 nd grade Enduring Understandings tell about a series of events in logical sequence, using temporal words to signal event order. use detail in their story to highlight details. write a conclusion related narrative elaborate sequence event action temporal words (i.e. time order words first, next last.) that the use of temporal words signals sequence for the reader. that the use of details that support an idea about an event (well elaborated event). that narratives need to be focused on one specific event. write a narrative recounting a well elaborated event. recount a short sequence of events. include details to describe actions, thoughts and feelings. use temporal words to

Essential edit, revise, digital tool, technology, publish, collaborate, produce, College and Career Readiness Anchor Standard 4 for Writing: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, style are appropriate to the task, purpose, and audience. W.2.4 Begins in 3 rd Grade 2 nd Grade Enduring Understandings College and Career Readiness Anchor Standard 5 for Writing: Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting or trying a new approach. W.2.5 With guidance and support from adults and peers, focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing. 2 nd grade Enduring Understandings have multiple writing experiences. edit revise that writing is a process where authors plan, reread, revise, and improve their writing. that other readers (peers or adults) can enhance writing by suggesting changes to the original work. that the writer decides which suggestions become revisions. develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting. focus their writing on a topic with assistance from adults and peers. develop the ability to recognize spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors and have strategies for correcting these errors with assistance (during conferences and peer editing).

Essential research, report, record, project, observation, source, relevant, experience, recall College and Career Readiness Anchor Standard 7 for Writing: Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects based on focused questions, demonstrating an understanding of the subject under investigation. W.2.7 Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., read a number of books on a single topic to produce a report; record science observations).
