OBJECTIVES: Create a clear and simple pathway for player development. Always keep the player at the centre of the development process. Allow players as much active time with a ball each as possible. Teach the principles of the game. Teach roles not positions. Acknowledge that players will learn and develop at different speeds. To keep a fresh and current outlook on the changes in young player development. Create a deep and underlying passion for the sport of soccer at all ages.

3 GPS STYLE OF PLAY CONFIDENT GPS teams are made up of confident players. This confidence comes from self belief, hard work, repetition and team camaraderie, all instilled in a positive coaching environment. PROACTIVE GPS teams are soccer smart. Players are students of the game and are able to make adjustments based on what they see on the field. POSSESSION-BASED GPS teams play an indirect style of soccer but have an awareness of the most appropriate penetrating pass. BUILD FROM THE BACK GPS teams always look to build attacks from the back as opposed to playing kick and run soccer. ATTACK-MINDED GPS teams play the game with flair and creativity. DEFENSIVE PRESSURE GPS teams understand how and when to apply pressure in order to regain possession of the ball. PHYSICALITY GPS teams excel in the physical element of the game - exhibiting pace and power. GPS teams are hard working, strong in the tackle and always play within the laws of the game.

4 GPS SYSTEM OF PLAY: All GPS staff should follow the GPS S.C.O.R.E. methodology when planning all practice sessions. SIMPLE. Stick to one theme during your practice session. Choose 2 or 3 core coaching points and reinforce them throughout the session. CHALLENGING. Ensure that the players are posed problems that they need to find solutions to. Provide guidance and help when they need it. ORGANISED. Plan every detail of your session - how many players, space and equipment. Ensure that your sessions have the appropriate pace and progression to challenge all of your players. RELEVANT. Ensure that the exercises in your session are relevant to the game. ENJOYABLE. The players should walk away from every practice having thoroughly enjoyed the session and learning at least one new aspect of the game.

5 GPS SYSTEM OF PLAY: PART 1: GPS TEAMS IN POSSESSION THIS DOCUMENT WILL LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING 3 AREAS: PHASE 1. BUILDING FROM THE BACK USING THE GOALKEEPER. PHASE 2. PLAYING THROUGH MIDFIELD. PHASE 3. ATTACKING IN THE FINAL THIRD WE WILL LOOK AT INCORPORATING ALL 4 PILLARS OF PLAYER DEVELOPMENT INTO TRAINING. WE WILL LOOK AT THE RELEVANCE OF THE TRAINING - FUNCTIONAL TRAINING VERSUS GENERAL. AT U11 & U12 WE WILL FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPLES OF THE GAME: ATTACKING. PENETRATION. PASS / SHOOT DRIBBLE OFF THE BALL RUNS SUPPORT. ANGLES AND DISTANCE OVER LAPS MOVEMENT AFTER COMBINATIONS CREATIVITY TAKEOVER/FAKEOVER GIVE AND GO CLEVER PASSING

PLAYERS ARE INCORPORATED INTO FITNESS TESTING PROGRAM. PLAYERS GIVEN OFF SEASON TRAINING PLAN. PLAYERS EXPOSED TO 3RD PARTY TRAINING PARTNERS FOR SPECAILITY PHYSICAL TRAINING.

7 GPS SYSTEM OF PLAY: FORMATION - NUMERICAL SYSTEM At U12, GPS teams will follow the numberical above. At 8v8, teams will consist of 1 goalkeeper, 2 central defenders, 2 wing backs, 2 central midfielders and one central striker. Players will be exposed to all roles in order to develop an inderstanding of playing in different areas of the field, including the role of the goalkeeper. Wing backs will be encouraged to be adventurous and join the attack. That said, defensive responsibilities can not be ignored.
