1 PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS: A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division-1 Specification sections, apply to work of this section. 1.2 SUMMARY: A. Extent and location of each type of flush wood door is indicated on drawings and in schedules. B. Types of doors required include the following: 1. Stile and rail Solid wood door with glazing Transparent Finish 2. Solid Core Profiled Panel Doors with hardboard faces Opaque Finish C. Factory-finishing of panel wood doors is included in this section. D. Factory-prefitting to frames and factory-premachining for hardware for wood doors is included in this section. E. Wood door frames and other woodwork in juxtaposition to wood doors are specified in Division-6 section "Finish Carpentry". F. Metal door frames for wood doors are specified in another Division-8 section. 1.3 SUBMITTALS: A. Product Data: Door manufacturer's technical data for each type of door, including details of core and edge construction, trim for openings and louvers, and factory-finishing specifications. B. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings indicating location and size of each door, elevation of each kind of door, details of construction, location and extent of hardware blocking, fire ratings, requirements for factory finishing and other pertinent data. 1. For factory-premachined doors, indicate dimensions and locations of cutouts for locksets and other cutouts adjacent to light and louver

2 openings. C. Samples: Submit samples, 1-0" square or as indicated, for the following: 1. Factory-Finished Doors: Each type of factory finish required. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE: A. Quality Standards: Comply with the following standards: 1. WDMA Quality Standard: I.S.6 "Industry Standard for Wood Panel Doors", of National Wood Window and Door Association (WDMA). B. WDMA Quality Marking: Mark each wood door with WDMA Wood Panel Door Certification Hallmark certifying compliance with applicable requirements of WDMA I.S. 6 Series. C. Fire-Rated Wood Doors: Provide wood doors which are identical in materials and construction to units tested in door and frame assemblies per ASTM E 152 and which are leveled and listed for ratings indicated by UL, Warnock Hersey or other testing and inspection agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. D. Manufacturer: Obtain doors from a single manufacturer. 1.5 PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING: A. Protect doors during transit, storage and handling to prevent damage, soiling and deterioration. Comply with requirements of referenced standards and recommendations of WDMA pamphlet "How to Store, Handle, Finish, Install, and Maintain Wood Doors", as well as with manufacturer's instructions. B. Identify each door with individual opening numbers which correlate with designation system used on shop drawings for door, frames, and hardware, using temporary, removable or concealed markings. 1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS: A. Conditioning: Do not deliver or install doors until conditions for temperature and relative humidity have been stabilized and will be maintained in storage and installation areas during remainder of construction period to comply with the following requirements applicable to project's geographical location:

3 1.7 WARRANTY: 1. Referenced AWI quality standard including Section 100-S-3 "Moisture Content". A General: Warranties shall be in addition to, and not a limitation of, other rights the Owner may have under the Contract Documents. B. Door Manufacturer's Warranty: Submit written agreement in door manufacturer's standard form signed by Manufacturer, Installer and Contractor, agreeing to repair or replace defective doors that have warped (bow, cup or twist) or that show telegraphing of core construction in face veneers, or do not conform to tolerance limitations of referenced quality standards. 1. Warranty shall be in effect during following period of time after date of Substantial Completion: a. Solid Core Interior Doors: Life of installation C. Contractor's Responsibilities: Replace or refinish doors where Contractor's work contributed to rejection or to voiding of manufacturer's warranty. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS: A. Manufacturer: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products of one of the following: 1. Solid Core Doors with Wood Veneer Faces: Blount Doors and Millwork, Div. Blount Lumber Co. Eggers Industries, Architectural Door Division Mohawk Flush Doors, Inc. Weyerhauser Company Legacy Doors VT Industries 2.2 INTERIOR SOLID WOOD STILE AND RAIL DOORS: A. NWWDA Quality Standard: Comply with NWWDA I.S.6 Industry standard for

4 Wood Stile and rail Doors of National Wood Window and door Association (NWWDA). B. Interior Doors: Comply with the following requirements: 1. NWWDA Grade of Doors for transparent Finish: Premium or Select. 2. Wood Species for transparent Finish: Red Oak, Plan Sliced 3. Panel Configuration: None - Glazing- French Door 4. Design and Layout: Panel design as described below under NWWDA design group with minimum dimensions for stiles, rails and lites and other elements complying with referenced NWWDA Standard. a. NWWDA Design group: 1-3/4 interior stile and rail door b. Top and side rails: 6 c. Bottom Rail: 10 d. Intermediate horizontal and vertical rails: INTERIOR PANEL DOORS: A. Solid Core Profiled Wood Doors for Opaque Finish: Comply with the following requirements: 1. Faces: Hardboard. (HDF Face) 2. Construction: Solid Core. (MDF Core) 3 SCL inner stiles and rails. 4. Hardwood outer stiles 5. Finish WDMA OP-6 factory painting 6. Face Dimensions: a. Stiles and Top Rail: 6 b. Bottom Rail:

5 2.4 LIGHT FRAMES: c. Intermediate rails: 4 or 6 d. Vertical Mullions: 4 e. Thickness: 1-3/4 f. Width and height per Plans A. Wood Beads for Light Openings in Fire Doors: Manufacturer s standard firerated wood-veneer beads matching veneer species of door faces. 2.5 FABRICATION: A. Fabricate Stile and Rail doors to produce doors complying with the following Requirements: 1. Factory- prefit doors to fit frame opening sizes indicated with uniform clearances and bevels as indicated below: a. Fitting Clearances for Non-rated Doors: Provide 1/8 at jambs and heads; 1/16 per leaf at meeting stiles for pairs of doors; and 1/8 from bottom of door to top of decorative floor finish or covering. Where threshold is shown or scheduled, provide ¼ clearance from bottom of door to top of threshold. b. Fitting clearances for Fire rated Doors: Comply with NFPA 80. c. Bevel non-rated doors 1/8 in 2 at lock and hinge edges. B. Fabricate Solid Core Profiled Panel Doors to produce doors complying with following requirements: 1. Factory-prefit and premachine doors to fit frame opening sizes indicated with the following uniform clearances and bevels: a. Comply with tolerance requirements of AWI for prefitting. Comply with final hardware schedules and door frame shop drawings and with hardware templates. 2. Openings: Cut and trim openings through doors to comply with applicable

6 requirements of referenced standards for kind(s) of doors required. a. Light Openings: Trim openings with moldings of material and profile indicated. C. Factory pre-machine wood doors for hardware; comply with final hardware schedule, door frame shop drawings and hardware templates. 2.6 FACTORY FINISHING: A. General: Comply with referenced AWI quality standard including Section 1500 "Factory Finishing". B. Prefinish wood doors at factory. C. Transparent Finish: Comply with requirements indicated for grade, finish system, staining effect and sheen: 1. AWI Grade: Premium 2, Finish: AWI System #3 alkyd-urea conversion varnish. 3. Staining: Architect to select from manufacturer s stains. 4. Effect: Filled Finish 5. Sheen: Semi-Gloss D. Opaque Finish: Comply with requirements indicated for grade, finish system, color and sheen. 1. AWI Grade: Custom. 2. Finish: Manufacturer's standard finish with performance requirements comparable to AWI System #7 catalyzed lacquer or factory powder coat. 3. Color: Match approved sample for color selected by Architect from manufacturer's standard colors. 4. Sheen: Semi-gloss

7 PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION: A. Examine installed door frames prior to hanging door: 1. Verify that frames comply with indicated requirements for type, size, location, and swing characteristics and have been installed with plumb jambs and level heads. 2. Reject doors with defects. B. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 INSTALLATION: A. Hardware: For installation see Division-8 "Finish Hardware" section of these specifications. B. Manufacturer's Instructions: Install wood doors to comply with manufacturer's instructions and of referenced AWI standard and as indicated. 1. Install fire-rated doors in corresponding fire-rated frames in accordance with requirements of NFPA No. 80. C. Prefit Doors: Fit to frames for uniform clearance at each edge. D. Factory-Finished Doors: Restore finish before installation, if fitting or machining is required at the job site. 3.3 ADJUSTING AND PROTECTION: A. Operation: Rehang or replace doors which do not swing or operate freely. B. Finished Doors: Refinish or replace doors damaged during installation. C. Protect doors as recommended by door manufacturer to ensure that wood doors will be without damage or deterioration at time of Substantial Completion. END OF SECTION
