2 What is a Bird? A bird is any animal that has wings, feathers, hollow bones, specialized feet and a beak. Birds lay eggs, breathe air and are warm-blooded. They range in size from a tiny hummingbird to an ostrich. Birds are found all over the world in a variety of habitats. Many scientists think avian that birds are dinosaurs. What is a Dinosaur? A dinosaur was an animal that lived during the Mesozoic Era, million years ago. Dinosaurs lived on land and did not swim or fly. They had 4 limbs, scaly skin and laid eggs. They ranged in size from 3 feet long to over 150 feet long. Dinosaurs were in existence for over 160 million years and were a diversified and remarkable group of reptiles. 3 What s the Connection? Birds have many features in common with their relatives, the theropod dinosaurs. Other characteristics are unique to birds or only found in dinosaurs. If the characteristic describes both of the animals write it under Common to both, if it only describes one of the animals then write it in under that animal.
