1 February 2016 It s with great pleasure that we invite you and your students to participate in the: 6 th Annual Kyokushinkan-Kan DOKIJU Championship Saturday May 21 st, at Notre Dame college 3791 chemin Queen Mary Montreal (Quebec) H3V 1A8 Katas and semi-contact combat will be held in the morning; starting precisely at 10 a.m., for karatekas of 5 to 10 year olds. The competition will continue for the karatekas of 11 years and older including Adults for katas, weapons katas and semi-contact combats. Given that the registered participants will be grouped in advance in their respective categories, we ask you to submit your registration forms by the 14th of May Any entries received after this date will be rejected. Attached please find the registration forms and all information relating to the tournament. It is with great enthusiasm that we are preparing the 6 th Annual Kyokushin-Kan DOKIJU Championship. Our goal is to provide the competitors from Canada, the United States and elsewhere the opportunity to meet and to practice their art under the best conditions possible in front of their family and friends. 2 Shihans, Senseis and Coaches General Information We are pleased to receive, free of charge, the Shihans, Senseis and coaches of the dojos which are participating in our championship. However, we do limit the number of coaches to the ratio of 1 coach for about 10 participants registered. Registration Upon their arrival, person designated must go to the "registration table" to make their payments and complete the registration of their students; they will also be able to receive any additional information that they need. The participants will have to register at the same registration table to give their presence and be identified. (numbers on hand for categories). Traîners (coaches): The coaches designated by the Shihan or the Sensei of a specific dojo will have the responsibility of their students during the competition. Their main tasks will be the following: - To ensure that their students promptly arrive at the designated announced area of their division. - To ensure that their students participating in the Semi-contact competition are wearing regulatory equipment and remain close to the area during the entire time of the competition; Weigh: For the sake of fairness and security, please ensure that the weight of each registered participant in the semi-contact combat divisions are as accurate as possible. Karate Uniform (Dogi): The karate uniform (dogi) is mandatory throughout the kata and fighting events. Combat equipment : The participants registered at the championship must provide their protective gear in accordance with the regulations enforced in the championship. Protective equipment is mandatory. Shin and foot gear, gloves, headgear, mouthpiece and athletic support. Judges: All Shihans, Senseis and Sempais wishing to participate in the championship as judges and referees during the semi-contact must wear black trousers, a white shirt (short sleeves) and use their own whistle. There will be a meeting for the judges at 9:00 a.m. before the start of the kata competition. We strongly recommend that all judges review the competition regulations for katas and the semicontact combat, included in this document).

3 Divisions and Sub-Divisions: Registered participants are grouped into pre-established categories depending on the type of division (kata, weapons kata, semi-contact combat) - the age, level of belt, sex and weight (for semi-contact) - see the division tables. A minimum of two participants per category is required. If a single candidate is registered, he/ she will be re-classified or refunded. If there is a large number of participants in the same category, it will be subdivided into two or more subcategories. The trophies and medals for each division will be awarded as soon as each competition is completed. Price of tournament: $35.00 (one event) $10.00 (each extra event) Entry price: $8.00 (5 years to adults) Kids (less than 5 years) free Snack-bar: Light meals and beverages will be available from 8:30 a.m. at the snack bar located at the entrance to the gym. Rules Kata, Weapons Kata 1. The Championship will welcome all traditional karate styles. 2. A team of judges is made up of 5 judges including the chief judge who is in charge of the competition. 3. Each participant introduces himself/herself to the judges and announces the kata that he or she will execute. 4. Each participant receives a mark - between 5 and 10 - from each judge; the total of the 5 marks is used to establish the position of the participant(s) within its category. 5. All participants must execute a traditional kata, weapons kata varies from one style to another, each participant is judged on the following criteria: Basic positions, kick and punch techniques, difficulty level of the kata, balance and fluidity, attitude and intensity, difficulty of kata. 6. It is recommended that each participant prepare two different traditional katas: a main kata and a second kata in case of a tie for one of the first 3 positions. In case of a tie for the 1st, 2nd or 3rd position in a division, the chief judge will ask the two participants who are tied to perform a different kata to establish a winner. If a participant chooses to execute the same kata, a ½ point deduction will be made by each judge

4 Rules Semi-Contact Combat The categories will be made according to the number of participants, ages and belt levels; Shihan, Sensei, Sempai. Please inform your students and parents of the regulations below (penalty, wazaari, etc.) to avoid any conflict the day of the competition. Duration of Fights: 5 to 7 years : 1 minute 1 prolongation 30 secondes 8 to 12 years : 2 minutes - 1 prolongation 1 minute 13 and over : 2 minutes 1 prolongation 1minute 30 secondes Illegal Techniques Kicks to the knee joint, such as Gedan Yoko Geri, Kakato Geri and Gedan Mawashi Geri. Elbow strikes and head-butt to the face, head or neck. Knee kicks and straight kicks to the face. All strikes using hand, fist, elbow, knee, foot - to the groin or back. Grabbing Sweeping technique Warnings The center judge may issue official warnings to the fighters while a fight is in progress; i.e. hits that are too strong. An official warning, second warning = disqualification Disqualification If a fighter shows a lack of sportsmanship, the center judge may disqualify him/her immediately. The final decision to disqualify a fighter rests with the center judge. Permitted The uchi mata technique is allowed. The mawashi jodan will be permitted only if it is made with a certain control (slight touch). Wazaari: A visible contact with the foot at the head, which has a slight impact and control, is considered a wazaari Ippon Wazaari One ippon (1 point) is awarded to a fighter who puts his opponent out of the fight for 3 seconds or more, using any legal technique the fight is interrupted. With one scored ippon, a fighter is granted victory the fight is over. One wazaari (½ point) is awarded to a fighter who puts his opponent out of the fight for less than 3 seconds, using any legal technique the fight is temporally interrupted. After one wazaari has been scored, fighters resume fighting. Two wazaari add up to one ippon: the fighter is granted victory - the fight is over.

The organizing committee of the 6 th Annual Kyokushin-Kan 1st North American Cup 2011 reserves the right to adjust or remove one or more categories of weight, by the number of participants, age or weight of the fighters registered, and to ensure the proper operation and security of the fighters in the Semi-contact Every karateka registered in the championship residing outside of Canada has the responsibility of acquiring a medical insurance policy covering care and hospitalization costs that may be incurred following his/her participation in the 6th Annual Kyokushin-Kan DOKIJU Championship Saturday May 21st 2016
