2 Sky-Lift System The Sky-Lift jump form system engineered for use on external elevated forming applications. It can be used with any Symons forming system, including the Aluminum Beam, Versiform, Steel-Ply, Max-A-Form and Flex-Form systems. The system consists of the Sky-Lift Frame and Carriage Assembly. The Carriage Assembly allows the gang form to be retracted from the face of the previously cast concrete. The whole Sky-Lift assembly is suspended from Jump Shoes that are bolted to inserts in the previous concrete lift. These features, combined with the 8 foot wide working platform, allow for stripping and cleaning of the form face. All gang form preparation can proceed without the assistance of a crane. When acrane is needed, the form and platform are hoisted as one unit and landed into Jump Shoes. The crane is attached to the Sky-Lift unit only during hoisting, landing and reinstallation of the safety pins. This entire lifting operation typically takes 10 minutes to complete. When properly anchored, typical Sky- Lift applications will withstand rated wind load and support platform loads up to 50 pounds per square foot. This capacity permits all forming activities to be performed from the Sky-Lift work platforms. With all of the activity described above taking place on the work platform, the Sky-Lift system never needs to be lowered to the ground or stored elsewhere on the project. 2

4 Component Parts Waler Lift Brackets Depending on the gang form used, the Sky-Lift assembly can be lifted by the forms or by the walers. When using the Waler Lift Bracket, it must be bolted to the Versiform Waler with two 5 /8" x 6" contour bolts and double nutted for safety. The working load of 4000 lbs (5:1 safety factor) assures a safe and secure lift. The use of a lifting beam and drop lines is recommended when the Sky-Lift assembly is being transported. Work Platforms Work Platforms are used to retract the gang form approximately 30" from the poured concrete wall. Final gang form adjustments, plumbing, and Jump Shoe attachment can all be done from the Work Platform. The Work Platform also can be used to clean and store gangs. This operation saves time compared to the conventional method of lowering the gangs by crane to clean and store them. The Work Platform is typically constructed with three aluminum beams secured to the Sky-Lift frame. The aluminum beams are designed with a 2" x 2" wood nailer strip to fasten ¾" plywood for the platform decking. Trailing Platforms Trailing Platforms provide a 30" wide work access to the previously poured concrete wall. This allows a safe platform to patch tie holes, remove Jump Shoes and complete any other necessary finishing work. The Trailing Platform is constructed with aluminum beams and ¾" plywood for the platform decking. 4

5 Screw Jack Assembly The Screw Jack Assembly consists of the Carriage Waler Bracket and the 1½" diameter screw jack. The Carriage Waler Bracket is bolted onto the Versiform Waler with two 5 /8" diameter x 5" contour bolts and the Screw Jack is pinned to the Glide Rack. The assembly supports the gang form and allows vertical adjustments of up to 10½" for the purpose of aligning the outside forms with the inside forms for tie placement. Jump Shoes The Jump Shoe is bolted to an insert in the previous poured concrete. A removable pin in the Jump Shoe supports the end of the Sky-Lift Frame. A locking pin in the Jump Shoe engages the top member, securing the Frame against possible uplift forces. This safety pin cannot be engaged if the frame is not correctly seated in the Jump Shoe, and provides a positive safety indicator before the crane is disconnected. Wall Braces The heavy duty, all steel Wall Braces are designed to simplify wall form alignment. Wall Braces are attached to the top of the gear housing on the retractable carriage, and to the gang form waler with 5 /8" diameter bolts. The Wall Braces are used to strip the gang form from the newly placed concrete surface. Once stripped, the entire assembly can move away from the wall on the Sky-Lift Glide Rack. 6 Sky-Lift Assembly Sequence First Lift Second Lift First lift Once the gang forms are assembled, the Sky-Lift side should be set first. Inserts are positioned on the face of the gang form for the Jump Shoes and Sky-Lift Frame connections. Rebar is then set in place and the opposite gang form is secured with ties. After the concrete walls are poured and the gang forms stripped, the Jump Shoes are bolted into the inserts. Second lift The Sky-Lift Frame assembly is lifted into position, lowered onto the Jump Shoe, and secured with the safety pin. The Sky-Lift Frame is now mounted to the wall and ready to have the gang form and Work Platform attached. The Wall Brace is pinned to the waler and the gear housing, so the entire unit can be positioned. The crane now can be safely released and the gang form moved forward by turning the gear assembly with a wrench. Inserts are again placed and the forming sequence repeats. Third lift The forming sequence for the third lift is similar to the previous lifts, except now the Trailing Platform has been added. The extension bracket is secured to the Sky-Lift frame. Aluminum beams, ¾" plywood decking, and guard rails are then added. When lifting the gang and platform to the next position, the Trailing Platform will swing into position. Install the remaining 1" diameter pin into the Extension Bracket to complete the Sky-Lift assembly. Third Lift 6

7 Stripping Additional lifts are achieved by first removing all ties and retracting the gang forms using the Wall Brace and providing access using the Glide Rack carriage. Place the Jump Shoes for the next lift and perform any maintainance that may be needed. Lifting Just before lifting, remove all of the Lock/Safety Pins from the Jump Shoes. When the Sky-Lift Assembly is initially lifted, the unit may tilt slightly. To adjust the unit to fly vertically, raise the Sky-Lift Assembly, making sure not to lift clear of the Jump Shoes. If the front of the platform dips and the rear of the platform raises, move the Sky-Lift Carriage forward. If the rotation is reversed, move the Sky-Lift Carriage backward.
