Some of our activities include: bringing in guest speakers (graduate students, faculty members, psychologists, hypnotists), keeping an distribution list for members, helping with community service projects, learning about research opportunities available to students, and planning fun social events and field trips. It s a great way to get connected with our department and other undergraduate students interested in psychology. All are welcome to join us! Pronunciation of Psi Chi: Psi = exactly sounds like Sigh, then Kie like kite without the t. Sigh Kite. Sigh Kie. Psi Chi! If you need help with writing papers, contact the Writing Lab, more info here: writingcenter.missouri.edu Read your Mizzou regularly. MU can and will you to tell you stuff, for example, you must do something before you can register for classes. Psych majors that read their Mizzou get first dibs REMEMBER TO GO TO CLASS. Arrange your life so you never miss class. 4 11) Attend our next DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR LECTURE (Thurs 2/20 from 3:30 to 5pm in Jesse Wrench Auditorium (S107 Memorial Union) Karen Wynn, Professor of Psychology at Yale University, will speak in Jesse Wrench Auditorium (S107 Memorial Union) on Thur., Feb. 20 from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. The title of Dr. Wynn's talk is, The discriminating infant: Early social judgments and the roots of good and evil. A brief bio and abstract for Dr. Wynn's talk can be found below. Dr. Wynn was also featured in a recent segment on 60 Minutes, in which she describes some of the research she'll be discussing in the talk. In case you are interested in getting a short preview (~13 min), the segment can be viewed here: More information about the talk and lecture series can be found on our website: series/. 12) Apply for the PSYCHOLOGY SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM at the University of Detroit Mercy (Deadline March 3rd) The University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications the Psychology Summer Enrichment Program (PSEP). We are recruiting economically and educationally disadvantaged undergraduate students from around the country in order to provide them with educational experiences aimed toward the goal of their applying to and being accepted by graduate programs in behavioral health. The PSEP is being developed via a grant that the program has received from Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) Supplemental Interprofessional Education Program Behavioral Science. Undergraduate students who are accepted into the PSEP will have educational experiences in: psychology, working in an inter professional model, cultural competency, preparation for the Graduate Record Exam, exposure to basic clinical skills, and exposure to settings in which psychologists work. The program is offered at no charge, and students will be housed on the UDM campus. Students will be provided with student mentors from the Doctoral Program and will have opportunities for educational experiences and interaction with students interested in other health professions. Students accepted into the program also receive financial aid information and counseling and receive a stipend for attending. Listen. Refer. Training. Did you know that suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college students? You can help your friends by taking the Ask Listen Refer Training! The training only takes 20 minutes but is extremely valuable. This program teaches concerned friends to ASK their friends if they are thinking about suicide, LISTEN to their response carefully, and REFER them to a professional. Through this program, you will learn about the prevalence of suicide among the college population, warning signs, sample conversations to help you with this conversation and resources for your friend.
