1 CURRICULUM STRUCTURE FOR IAOP Certified Outsourcing Specialist (COS) Human Resources

2 BACKGROUND In line with the Government s effort to assist unemployed graduates to gain employment through the Graduate Training Scheme, this Certificate in Certified Outsourcing Specialist (COS) Human Resources is developed to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills expected of a candidate to work & support the outsourcing function in HR domain. It is intended that this training programme would enhance graduates with knowledge and skills as well as increase their employability. OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING PROGRAMME To enhance graduates employability by equipping graduates with knowledge of Human Resources Management & process followed. To raise the level of self-confidence and overall grooming of the trainees through the Business skills program. TRAINING PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION The training programme consists of following modules targeted for currently employed, preparing them for employment in outsourcing sector under the Human Resources Outsourcing domain. Upon successful completion of the training programme, trainees will appear for the Certified Outsourcing Specialist COS Certification from IAOP DURATION Total duration of the training programme: 20 days in theory 15 days in e-learning TARGET GROUP This Certificate in Certified Outsourcing Specialist (COS) Human Resources program is designed for graduates from any stream or those with Associate Degree/ Foundation Degree/ Bachelor s Degree or other equivalent qualification. The course is designed to give the candidate a good exposure to handle HR responsibilities smoothly. Human Resources can be quite technical subject and it would be recommended, but not required for the candidate to have had exposure to the fundamentals of Human Resources processes before enrolling for the training & taking the IAOP COS test. It will also be preferred that the candidate has had some prior exposure to HR as a function in order to grasp the training well within the short duration. While this is not a prerequisite towards understanding the domain, it will greatly help the candidate fare better in the certification examination. 1

3 MODULE STRUCTURE Module Title : Foundations in Outsourcing Terminal Performance Objective : Given the complexity of the business world, the learner should be able to understand his role in an Outsourcing organization and environment in which the organization operates and the practices & process of Outsourcing Learning Experience : 1. Outsourcing History and Industry transformation Understanding history of outsourcing; the various reasons leading to outsourcing; key services offered by the industry and its socioeconomic implications. Understand emerging outsourcing opportunities and the highlights of various global destinations. Students will be well versed with the outsourcing concept. Learning Experience : 2. Core and Non-Core Processes Gain exposure to the fundamental principles of outsourcing in order for them to understand and apply all other related skills more effectively. Apply the relevant theories and practices through case studies, simulation and role play. Learning Experience : 3. Reasons for Outsourcing and Types of Outsourcing 2

4 Understanding the industry Get well versed with the needs of the Industry Understand business propositions Business development & legal aspects of outsourcing. Learning Experience : 4. Key Services & Verticals. Understand the relevant and different services in an Outsourcing organization. Understand SWOT analysis and its application Explain the different stages of planning in an organization. Develop a departmental plan based on a given case study. Learning Experience : 5. The concept of BPO; Issues and Challenges Understand the challenges & issues in the BPO industry Awareness of the importance of business Processes in the changing global economy : Learning Experience Enabling Objectives 6. Types of BPOs, Basics of BPO Technology, Infrastructure : Knowledge Understand the meaning and application of BPO, KPO, LTO, HRO and ITO Study of critical BPO/ KPO domains like Customer Service, Transaction Processing, Back-office services, HR and Technical Support, Customer Interaction, Understand the infrastructure requirement of the agent and, technological requirements for the same. Explain the types of BPOs and skills of the professionals. 3
