2 Readiness Standards The following are expected indicators of student readiness for each course. 3 Music Appreciation Grades 9-12 Length: Semester Prerequisite: None Overview: This course will cover listening and discussion of Western music from the Middle Ages to the present. Contents include a discussion of musical concepts, evolution of forms, style and media, and a detailed study of selected works from the concert repertoire. Forms Concepts AK. 4 Theory of Music Grades 9-12 Length: 1 semester Prerequisite: None Overview: This class is designed to develop students abilities to recognize and understand the basic materials and processes in music. The course offers a solid foundation in intervals, pitch patterns, metric/rhythmic patterns, chords, musical composition, and the terms, rules, regulations that are a part of a basic understanding of music. 7 AP Music Theory Grades Length: 2 semesters Prerequisite: Instructor approval Overview: This course is designed to prepare the student for the AP Music Theory Exam. AP Music Theory covers the material of first-year college-level theory, including, but not limited to, the development of fundamental aural, notational, and performance skills. Instructor approval is mandatory and students are required to be enrolled in another school music ensemble.
