2 ORGANISATION PROFILE African Australian Union Inc (AAU Inc) is a not for profit, non-religious, non-political and nondiscriminatory organisation, founded by African migrants, African-Australians and Australians living in Perth. The organisation was incorporated on December 11, VISION Our vision is for all Australian residents of African origin to become fully integrated, successful, healthy and contributing members of the Australian community. MISSION Our Mission is to facilitate the settlement of Africans in Australia by assisting them with accommodation needs, employment and career advice, education and training information, finance management, health and welfare issues, social contact, advocacy and an understanding of the Australian way of life. We aim to create an organisational environment that promotes cultural appreciation, harmony and tolerance. 3 P age

4 OBJECTIVES Advocacy Support Services Development To be a voice for issues concerning African Australians To assist individuals to access appropriate support services as required To educate the general public, community and government agencies on settlement issues To inform all levels of government and have an impact on policy making To provide support services for African Australians that require assistance To actively facilitate the development of responsive and relevant services for African Australians To ensure services provided and supported by us are culturally responsive to African Australians To provide recreational and social activities for African Australians and the wider community To facilitate acceptance and integration of African migrants into the local community To build community knowledge and understanding of the AAU, its purpose and activities To create opportunities for inclusive and culturally respectful communities To enhance access to communities for new migrants Lifelong Learning To educate African Australians on key issues such as settlement, integration, health, family and education To increase access of African Australians to higher education and training opportunities To nurture African Australian leaders who will contribute to all facets of the Australian community and workforce To provide a base for the retention of our languages, traditions and heritage Collaboration To enhance AAU goals and objectives To raise the profile of AAU To develop intercommunity links To expand our knowledge and networks 5 P age
