Overview i-ready Standards Mastery is a new addition to the i-ready assessment platform. Standards Mastery allows for targeted, efficient assessment of specific standards and provides insight into students mastery of individual, grade-level standards. Standards Mastery enables educators to identify where skill gaps remain and to deliver targeted instructional resources based on student needs. With Standards Mastery, district and school administrators can plan assessments for grades 2 8 in both Reading and Mathematics. 2
Working with Standards Mastery Assessments Logging In 1. Log in to i-ready with your username and password. 2. From the Admin Home Page, click Build and assign an assessment. This link takes you to the Standards Mastery area on the Assignments tab. You can also click on the Assignments tab and then the Standards Mastery sub-tab. 3. From the Select Subject dropdown, choose either Reading or Mathematics. Your screen will look like this: 3
You have three choices: Build New Tests: to create assessments and then assign them to your students View & Assign Tests: to view assessments you have previously built and assign these assessments and delete tests you do not need Review Assigned Tests: to check the status of all assignments and to cancel assignments Building Tests From the Build Test screen, you can review assessment content and standards for any grade level (grades 2 8). Standards Mastery provides two equivalent assessment forms for each skill: Form A and Form B. If you wish to, you can preview the content before building assessments. 1. To begin, click Build New Tests. 2. From the Select Grade dropdown, choose the grade level for which you want to browse standards and assessment forms. Your screen will look like this: a a. Subject: Reading or Mathematics d b c b. Grade Level of standards c. Domain e d. Skills e. Standard 3. Click the blue domain bar to display the standards covered in each domain. 4. Based on the assessment calendar built for your district s scope and sequence, select the standard or standards for your assessment. You can combine multiple standards into one assessment. 5. To select each standard to include on the assessment, click the checkbox next to the standard. Standards can be selected from multiple domains; simply select standards within the first domain and then move on to the second of interest. 6. Click the Preview button in any row to see the questions on Form A or Form B (use the dropdown to change the forms). The assessment form preview will open in a new tab in your browser. 7. You can view the questions on the assessment as students will see them by clicking on the buttons or the arrow keys at the bottom of the screen. 8. After previewing the assessments, click on the i-ready tab in your browser to return to your Standards Mastery screen. 4
9. When you have selected all the standards you want to include on this assessment, click Save Test. The Save New Test screen summarizes all the information about your assessment. Your screen will look like this: 10. Standards Mastery assigns a default name for your assessment. Click in the Test Name field to edit the name to reflect the conventions used in your district and school. Tip: You will use this name to help you select this assessment for reporting and for retrieving this assessment to assign later, so select a name that s recognizable 11. Choose the grade of the student population to whom you plan to assign the assessment. By default, Standards Mastery uses the grade of the standards you have selected. 12. Standards Mastery automatically lists the standards you selected in the Test Description field. Click in this field if you want to edit this description. 13. Review this screen carefully to ensure that the selections match what you intended. If you want to make any revisions to the selected standards, click Cancel. You will be returned to Build New Test and you can revise your selections. 14. If you are happy with your selections, you have two options for finalizing the assessment: To save the assessment and assign it at a later time, click Save Test. To save the assessment and assign it immediately, click Save and Assign Test. This option will immediately make the test available to all students in your assignment group (see the next section on how to select an assignment group). 5
Deleting Tests From the View & Assign Tests screen as a district administrator, you can delete any Standards Mastery assessment that has not been assigned. As a school administrator, you can delete any Standards Mastery assessment you have built. School administrators cannot delete assessments created by others. 1. On the View & Assign Tests screen, select the Standards Mastery assessment you wish to delete. If the test has been assigned, the delete button will be greyed out and you will not be able to select it. 2. Once you have selected an assessment that you have permission to delete, the Delete button will be enabled. Click the button to delete the assessment. 3. Review the confirmation message and then confirm or cancel the deletion of the selected assessment. Note: Deleting a test cannot be undone. Once a test has been deleted, it will no longer be available. 6
Assigning Tests Assigning an assessment immediately After you build your assessment, you can assign it immediately. Assigning the assessment immediately means that the assessment will appear when selected students next log in to i-ready. (If the students are currently working on a Diagnostic, the Standards Mastery assessment will not display until they have completed the Diagnostic.) As a district administrator, you can assign a Standards Mastery assessment to any school, class, or student in your district. As a school administrator, you can assign to schools for which you are the administrator and to any classes or students in those schools. Assigning to a school Assigning by school means that you are choosing to assign to an entire grade within one or more schools. To assign an assessment to all students within the selected grade in one school or, for district administrators or multiple schools, follow these steps: 1. On the Save New Test screen, click Save & Assign Test. Your screen will look like this. The screen defaults to Assign by School and lists all available schools. 7

Differentiated Instructional Support Standards Mastery Reports provide resources for Differentiated Instructional Support. i-ready Standards Mastery: Differentiated Instructional Resources provide targeted instructional information and recommended resources for each standard or substandard(s) covered within an i-ready Standards Mastery assessment form. Click on the Resources icon on any report to access this information. Serving as a tool to drive differentiated instruction, these documents identify resources for teacherled and student-led small groups as well as individualized, independent learning to reteach, reinforce skills, and enrich students performing at different levels. Overview Information in the Instructional Resources documents are always organized in the same way. Each resource link provides overview information to aid in deepening teachers understanding of the standards, prior to detailing specific recommended instructional resources. This introductory section includes: The full text of the assessed grade-level standard(s) and/or substandard(s) The full text of prerequisite standards as a learning progression for on-level mastery and, as needed, information about additional skill development necessary to master the grade-level standard An overview of tested skills with specific information on what students need to be able to do to answer assessment items correctly, and as needed, prerequisite skills that students must be familiar with to be successful Common misconceptions and errors that can be stumbling blocks for understanding and application of the skills or concepts covered by the assessed standard This information can be helpful in developing objectives and/or essential questions when planning differentiated instruction, in providing insights into student thinking, as a starting point for discussion and questioning, and to informally evaluate student understanding. 22
Ready & i-ready Instructional Resources Following the overview section, each i-ready Standards Mastery: Differentiated Instructional Resources document recommends standard-specific instructional resources for students who have placed on or above level and for students who have placed one or more grade levels below given performance on i- Ready Diagnostic. In all cases, the recommended instructional resources are accessed through i-ready Tools for Instruction on the Resources tab i-ready Lessons Teacher Toolbox <insert URL> and state that there is a link from the Resources tab. i-ready s Apps ( Door 24 Plus and World s Worst Pet) On-Level Instructional Resources For students performing on grade level in general (based on i-ready Diagnostic), recommended resources are provided for three levels of understanding of the specific standard, given results on i- Ready Standards Mastery. Resources are categorized into Beginning, Progressing, and Proficient to support fully targeted on-level differentiated instruction. Students at the Beginning level are just beginning to develop mastery of the assessed grade-level standard. The instructional resources recommended for these students build foundational understanding of the concepts and skills of the assessed standard. Resources for this category support teacher-led and student-led small group learning and may include: Students at the Progressing level have a basic understanding of the skills and concepts of the standard. The instructional resources recommended for these students support independent work or student-led small group learning and focus on building students confidence through additional practice. Students at the Proficient level demonstrate proficiency in the concepts and skills of the assessed standard (for those scoring in the high end of this range, full mastery is demonstrated). The instructional resources recommended for these students support independent work or student-led small group learning and focus on deepening understanding of skills and concepts. Below Level Instructional Resources This section provides support for students who are one or more grade levels below as identified by i- Ready Diagnostic. It is a walk back through the learning progression of key skills students need to work successfully with content covered by the grade level standard. The instructional resources recommended for these students build foundational understanding of the concepts and skills of prerequisite standards. They can be considered as instructional resources for use in addition to the recommendations in the i-ready Diagnostic Student Profile Report and Instructional Grouping Profile Report. Resources for below-level students are categorized into those for students who are one level below and those who are two or more levels below. 23
Student Experience: Key Details for Administrators and Teachers Standards Mastery assessments appear on the student dashboard in the same way that other activities appear. The student sees a button that looks like this: i-ready controls the order in which i-ready activities are presented to students: Diagnostic Standards Mastery Growth Monitoring Lessons When the administrator assigns the assessments, students will immediately see the Standards Mastery assessment, unless a Diagnostic is already assigned. Access restrictions (that is, availability of assessments at night and during weekends) that have been set for the Diagnostic also apply to Standards Mastery assessments. Students can navigate through a Standards Mastery assessment using the buttons and arrows at the bottom of the screen. This is very similar to the preview experience that administrators have. 24
On Standards Mastery assessments, students: Must answer all questions May skip around within the assessment May work on the assessment in multiple sessions by clicking the Finish Later button. All work will be saved. For some multiple choice questions, the answer choices are randomized so each student sees a different order of responses. How tests are scored Each question on the Standards Mastery assessment is worth 1 point. A student s score is calculated by dividing the points earned by the total possible points to get a percent correct. There are six questions (and therefore 6 possible points) for each reading and math standard assessed 1. Language standards have 10 questions (or 10 possible points). For the overall assessment score, the total possible points is the sum of points on each standard included in the assessment. A question must be fully answered and correct to receive a point; students cannot receive partial credit. Some items contain multiple questions displayed as Part A and Part B to the student (for example, two different questions that share the same reading passage).each of these questions is worth 1 point a piece. 1 In some cases, the standard assessed may be a sub standard, a group of sub standards, or a group of standards. 25
