Apply for residence by April 30 and you will be guaranteed a room!» uab.ca/residence WORK IN CANADA Getting work experience in Canada can be extremely valuable, as it allows you to develop your language skills, earn extra income, make connections with employers, and get involved. As an international student on a post-secondary study permit, you can work while you study, on or off campus, and for up to three years after graduation. In order to work in Canada after finishing your studies, you must also obtain a post graduation work permit. WORK WHILE YOU STUDY * CO-OP PROGRAMS 20 HOURS/WEEK DURING ACADEMIC YEAR FULL-TIME DURING SCHOOL BREAKS * You must be enrolled full-time in a degree program and must maintain satisfactory academic standing. Every faculty at the University of Alberta offers some type of job placement, work co-op, or academic internship program, allowing you to gain valuable industry experience related directly to your field of study while still a student. International students already in Canada on a study permit are assessed the same fees as other international students. 5 ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY (ELP) All students are required to demonstrate ELP, in addition to meeting the general admission requirements for one s program of choice. The tables below outline the most common methods that international students use.» admissions.ualberta.ca/international STUDY PERMIT Please note that you must apply for a new, post-secondary study permit even if you already have a study permit to attend high school in Canada.» cic.gc.ca BRIDGING PROGRAM FOR ESL STUDENTS The Bridging Program is designed for applicants who meet all other admission requirements for their program of choice, except for English Language Proficiency. Spoken ELP is not required by all programs.
