3 The IMAcc approach Your success as an IMAcc grad is due to our focus on a strong integrative approach to accounting and a curriculum that smoothly transitions you from international accounting to North American concepts. The adaptation process begins the moment you arrive on campus. Through our Business English Program we make sure that you get a four-week customized course in business reading, writing, listening and speaking. But we also ensure that you adapt socially. In between classes, we ve scheduled a full four weeks of activities and trips. You ll visit Niagara Falls and Toronto, explore St. Catharines and settle into your new life. You ll know your classmates, the Niagara region and feel comfortable and ready to begin your coursework. But the real key to our graduates success is our unique and intensive transition term. This is your foundation term, designed to ensure that you are ready for graduate accounting coursework. In addition to traditional accounting, we ll cover marketing, organizational behavior, finance and business law, all in the context of North American business practices. This integrative and comprehensive approach to accounting lets you explore your interests and achieve your career goals. IMAcc curriculum We build on your previous international accounting education with an IMAcc curriculum that is specially designed to give you an integrative approach to North American accounting principles. The cohort program includes an intensive English Language study program, a transition term and two academic terms. Each semester builds upon your new skills and knowledge. The IMAcc curriculum will provide you with a broad background in accounting with an emphasis on managerial accounting and information systems. The PMPCP is an eight- month preparation program that guides you through the challenges that you ll encounter as an international student in a North American professional graduate school. We ll help you improve your English language skills, gain confidence in academic situations and create a relevant North American academic record. Industry involvement with co-op Your IMAcc program includes an optional paid co-op term where you will gain valuable skills, link theory to practice and make important industry connections. Our IMAcc students hold co-op positions such as auditor, data management specialist, accounting assistant, strategic planning analyst and accounting consultant. Our comprehensive career services, offered through the Business Career Development Office (BCDO), are designed to help you find the right career path in the public or private sector and expose you to a wide variety of companies that are recruiting our graduates. 5 Applying to the IMAcc We re here to help. Contact one of our staff members regarding your application process and we ll guide you through all of your available options. The IMAcc program is unique and an excellent transition from international accounting systems to North American theory and practice. It s comprehensive and exciting, but also challenging and demanding. Our students are selected based on three criteria: strength in accounting, commitment to an understanding of global business and a dedication to leadership and community understanding. Application requirements Four-year bachelor s degree in accounting (Canadian equivalent) B/Second Class/75 per cent overall academic average (Canadian equivalent) Minimum English Language Proficiency score TOEFL: IBT 80 IELTS: 6.5 ITELP: 520 Work experience is preferred but not required. Summary of application documents All applications must include: Application form Non-refundable application fee Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions Official certificate of degree Three letters of reference Statement of interest Resumé Official TOEFL, IELTS or ITELP score A personal interview Any documents that are not in English or French must be translated into English and notarized before they are accepted.
