13 Rooftop extension Corridor alley: To connect all apartments with the staircases, terraces and the roof garden, a corridor passes through the structure that appears like a semi private alley and can be used by all housing residents. From there entrance hubs lead to every new duplex house. Light shafts and skylights provide daylight for the alley as well as for the apartments, which have internal windows towards the light shafts and alley. Apartments: 10 individual duplex apartments comparable to terraced houses are added on the existing building structure. All houses are designed very open with a lot of glazed façade that can be individually transformed by moveable shading elements to vary the degree of open- and closeness as needed and pleased. Additionally the second level of all houses is opening up to east and west to allow for as much daylight and view as possible. Roof garden and terrace spaces: Approximately 750m2 terrace and roof garden is proposed on the attached building roof at the southern end of the long existing building structure. Accessible for all building inhabitants, it serves like a common yard and offers possibilities for urban gardening, sun bathing, playing and relaxing. Furthermore the green roof not only provides benefits for a more livable environment and a more greener and sustainable development, it can as well provide better insulation for the building below. Functions & Benefits External staircase and Elevator: The additional external circulation provides an independent access to the roof top extension structure without disturbance of the existing structure and residents. It can as well function as an extra fire escape route for safety purposes. Community sauna: To provide the same amenity that is currently located in the attic, each building has a new community sauna with balcony integrated to the new structure facing to the west towards the greener side of the plot and to make most of the sun and sunset over the city.
