2 Using CSN s Library Home Page From Off-Campus From off-campus you may be prompted for a username and password for some of the library databases. STUDENTS: Your username is the last 8 digits of your c-number and your password is your birth date (MMYY). INSTRUCTORS: Stop by any CSN campus library reference desk for a username and password. CSN s Library Home Page Has Six Main Links: Additional Links on Left Side of Web Page Effective Assignments/Information Literacy: Instructors may use this link to get information on how to help students acquire information literacy skills. Search for books, videos and DVDs that are at the campus libraries. Search by title, author, keyword or subject. Do an advanced search to locate materials at a particular campus. 2

3 Find Electronic Books This link allows you to search for and read full text books on your computer screen. NetLibrary has nearly 20,000 books on most subjects. To use netlibrary off-campus, click on Create Your netlibrary Account Now (free). Gale Virtual Reference Library and Oxford Reference Online consist of reference books on many different subjects, while Safari Tech Books Online is a collection of computer industry and information technology books. Find Articles and Research Information Arranged by General Databases and Specialized Databases, this link allows you to search for, read and print copies of magazine, journal and newspaper articles. Learning Express is a database of practice tests and tutorials to help improve math, reading, writing, career and other skills. MLA and APA guides to citation format are available. Resources by Program provides links to web sites relevant to programs offered at CSN. Resources by Subject provides links to reputable web sites by subject. Find Help and Tutorials This link offers several online tutorials to help you learn how to effectively use library resources, find scholarly articles and search databases. Research guides are available in PDF on a variety of topics related to finding information and completing research assignments. 5
