2 IB Mission Statement The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

3 Overview of the IB programs The IB offers three high quality and challenging educational programs for a worldwide community of schools. The IB currently works with more than 971,000 students at 3,293 schools in 141 countries. IB Diploma Programme for students in the final two years of secondary school There are 744 Diploma Programmes in the US, 2,295 in the world. IB Middle Years Programme for students ages There are 445 Middle Years Programmes in the US, 917 in the world. IB Primary Years Programme for students ages 3-12 There are 296 Primary Years Programmes in the US, 847 in the world. IBO 10/30/2011 Only 24 schools in North America and the Caribbean offer a PYP-MYP-DP Continuum.

Each of the three academic programs emphasizes: Flexible, yet comprehensive curriculum with rigorous international standards Unique approach to trans-disciplinary learning using multiple instructional methodologies and teaching strategies Global focus with an emphasis on intercultural understanding Development of the whole child, including requirements for arts and community service

9 IB Middle Years Programme at Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School The Middle Years Programme (MYP) provides a curriculum which allows students to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to participate effectively in life in the 21 st century. The concept of balance is fundamental to the program. Broad base of disciplines to develop knowledge and skills Objectives include skills and processes As students mature and develop, disciplines increase in depth of knowledge and understanding Emphasis is on the development of the whole child (effective, cognitive, creative, and physical) Encourages students to consider different perspectives to develop understanding of what is common and what is different Internationalism is explored in each subject and in the entire program

13 IB Middle Years Programme at Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School Personal Project This is a requirement of all our 10 th grade MYP students. It is a creative independent piece of work that is intended to be the culmination of the student s involvement with the five areas of interaction. It may be an essay, an artistic production or other form of expression, with the topic chosen in consultation with teachers.

14 IB Middle Years Programme at Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School The Final Result - Students that successfully complete the MYP curriculum courses including the Personal Project and Community Service Requirements will receive a Middle Years Programme Certificate of Completion and will be invited to enter the Diploma Programme.
