1 International Internship Programs Worldwide Academy of Internships Abroad (Placement Fee) GVI is guided by a unique commitment to its volunteers and to its partners. To the Volunteer it offers safe, responsible travel experiences, exceptional training and career development opportunities, and facilitates the ability to make a real difference. To its partners it commits all project ownership rights and all work is undertaken fully under their direction, in conjunction with the local community. GVI is a non political, non religious organization, which runs over 150 projects in over 40 countries. Adelante Abroad (Placement Fee) Internships, volunteer placements, teaching abroad and semester and summer study opportunities from 1 12 months in Spain (Madrid, Seville, Barcelona, Marbella), Costa Rica (San José), Mexico (Oaxaca), Chile (Vina del Mar/Valparaiso) and Uruguay (Montevideo). American Councils for International Education (Placement Fee) American Councils administers a variety of cultural exchange, study abroad, and research programs on behalf of both public and private funders. Participation in these programs is through an open, meritbased competition, and facilitates mutual understanding between the United States and Eurasia, Southeast Europe, and South Asia. AmeriSpan (Placement Fee) AmeriSpan sends thousands of people of all ages to participate in language immersion, volunteer abroad projects, internship placements and educational programs abroad. Working with more than 200 organizations throughout world, AmeriSpan's Volunteer & Internship program offers something for everyone. BCA Study Abroad (Placement Fee) At many BCA study centers, students can participate in an internship, practicum or volunteer service. These may be for credit or not for credit. When you arrive at the study center, the BCA resdient director will help you find a placement, if it's available. Career Internship Program Foreign Agricultural Service (U.S. Government) The USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) Career Intern Program (CIP) is designed to prepare exceptional men and women who have professional experiences in agriculture and/or business, a college degree, and competencies for careers in public service with FAS. Interns will participate in a twoyear program that is designed to fine tune their skills and abilities. FAS hires full time employees for marketing specialist, international specialist, and agricultural economist positions through the CIP.
2 Center for Interim Programs (Placement Fee) CIP matches client's interests with a database of over 2,400 nonacademic but structured opportunities worldwide (from art to zoology, Australia to Zimbabwe), many of which provide room and board. The Center has placed some 3,000 people between the ages of 16 and 70 over the past 15 years. Placements are individual, so check with the organization for details and fees. Communicating for Agriculture Education Programs (CAEP) (Placement Fee) For more than a quarter century, Communicating for Agriculture Education Programs has carried out the vision of giving young adults an opportunity to experience the world through agricultural exchange, and provide an opportunity for rural families to be touched by other cultures, cultivating lifelong friendships. CAEP has more than 30 program options in 50 countries and has placed more than 20,000 interns internationally. Convoy of Hope (International Organization) Convoy of Hope Interns launch their term with a time of training at the Convoy of Hope headquarters in Springfield, Mo, followed by compassionate work that meets physical and spiritual needs in the United States and around the world. Not only is faith shown, faith is shared. As an example of what s ahead, past interns have served in Central America, East Africa, North Asia, Eurasia, the Asia Pacific, and all over the United States. There s more help and hope to give. Council on Foreign Relations (U.S. Government) The Council on Foreign Relations Internship Program offers outstanding volunteer opportunities for college students, graduate students, and graduates focusing on international relations and who are pursuing a career in foreign policy or a related field. Interns are recruited year round on a semester basis to volunteer in both the New York and Washington, DC, offices. An intern s volunteer duties generally consist of program coordination, research, editing, and writing. The internships are unpaid but provide a small stipend upon successful completion to offset transportation expenses. Cross Cultural Solutions (Placement Fee) All CCS programs feature our unique program design which includes a volunteer placement matching your skills and interests to the immediate needs of the community, Cultural & Learning Activities to learn more about the local culture and customs, Free Time for independent exploration, and lodging in a CCS Home Base where you will stay with fellow volunteers. We believe that visiting a place firsthand allows one to truly experience the authenticity of a culture and develop one's own impressions. Our goals are to provide quality service and to create opportunities for people to explore our world and enlighten their eyes, minds and hearts. Educators Abroad (Placement Fee) EducatorsAbroad (EA) provides an infrastructure through which interaction among educators in different cultural settings is nurtured so that a global perspective is integrated into educational policy and practice. Participants sent to 25 countries on four continents to teach English for 4 10 weeks throughout the year. Placement fee, course fee, and travel expenses total $4,200 $4,700. Accommodation and board provided by host schools. Available to students and non credit certificate option for adults. Eurolingua Internships (Placement Fee) Some internships which involve teaching English and French Hotel Management, along with many other types of internships, are available throughout Europe and Worldwide. Experience Learning International (Placement Fee) We work with organizations and individuals around the world forging relationships and creating an infrastructure that enable our interns to live and work in a secure environment. As our intern, you will have in country support to ease your way into the local culture, to advise you and help you when the need arises. We offer internships in 24 countries, but our widest selection can be found in Ireland, China, South Africa, Brazil, and France. All internships are unpaid except in China, where interns often receive a modest stipend that covers their accommodations. Foundation for Sustainable Development (Placement Fee) Founded in 1995, Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD) works to enhance the capacity of small non governmental organizations (NGOs) around the world to address local health, social, environmental, and economic issues. Our model incorporates four unique programs that support underserved communities in a collaborative and sustainable manner. Our Intern Abroad, Pro Corps Volunteering, and Service Learning Training Programs provide students and professionals with intensive training in grassroots sustainable development while also providing human resources and technical support to our Partner NGOs. Fulbright Program (U.S. Government) The U.S. Student Program is designed to give recent B.S./B.A. graduates, master's and doctoral candidates, and young professionals and artists opportunities for personal development and international experience. Most grantees plan their own programs. The U.S. Student Program awards
4 approximately 1,000 grants annually and currently operates in over 140 countries worldwide. Grants are awarded to the best qualified students regardless of degree level. Preference, however, will be given to candidates who have recently received the baccalaureate degree. These candidates are not restricted as to field of study, nor will they be required to have formulated long term specific educational or career goals beyond those necessary for a successful experience abroad. Most grants are for a period of one year. InfoSys InStep Program (International Organization) InStep is Infosys' flagship global internship program that attracts talent from top academic institutions around the world. The program draws students from management, technical and liberal arts backgrounds. InStep fosters a multi cultural environment within the organization and provides highimpact strategy and cutting edge research projects. We also benefit from the diverse perspectives of a best in class talent pool. Institute of Cultural Ecology (ICE) (Placement Fee) Academic internships in Fiji, Thailand, Hawaii, Nepal, Australia, and New Zealand, working on marine biology projects, environmental advocacy, or custom designed projects in participant s field of interest. Four, 8, or 12 weeks. Inter American Development Bank (International Organization) Each year the Inter American Development Bank hires almost 100 university students for a period of two to three months. Before the end of the internship, the departments and the interns must submit a brief report about their experience in the Bank and provide ideas and suggestions that can help improve the Program in future years.objective: to offer university students the opportunity to learn about the operations of the IDB and to acquire on the job training during their vacation before returning to their studies. 6 International Association of Economics and Management Students (Placement Fee) AIESEC operates a business management internship program for college upperclassmen and recent graduates in over 85 countries and territories. Knowledge of the host country language may be required. Application should be made through a local AIESEC chapter on campus. International Cooperative Education (ICE) (Placement Fee) Join the hundreds of American college and university students who travel to Europe, Australia, Asia, and South America each summer to live and work in paid positions. Through ICE, you'll gain invaluable international work, culture, and language experience which you'll carry with you the rest of your life. Since 1971, ICE has placed more than 16,000 students in work/internship positions throughout Europe, Asia, and South America. International Fund for Agricultural Development (International Organization) The Internship Program aims at promoting amongst the participants a better understanding of the United Nations and IFAD. The program is meant for recent university graduates or students who specialize in fields of work relevant to IFAD s mandate. Interns are fully involved in the work program of the Division that has selected them to carry out assignments relevant to their studies under the supervision of an IFAD staff member. Eligible candidates are currently enrolled in a university or graduate school or have recently completed their degree, are fluent in English and are of an IFAD member state. It provides an opportunity for highly promising graduate students pursuing an advanced degree/ph.d. in macroeconomics or a related field to gain a better understanding of the IMF s work and contribute to the institution s mission. There are opportunities for internships in other careers, but their frequency and availability is limited. Interns generally find the experience to be rewarding and interesting. To be eligible for the Internship, candidates must possess an undergraduate degree and already be enrolled in a full time graduate study program. This Internship typically seeks candidates in the following fields: economics, finance, human development (public health, education, nutrition, population), social science (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, private sector development, as well as other related fields. 9 U.S. Foreign Commercial Service Overseas Work Study Internship (U.S. Government) The purpose of the program is to provide college or university juniors, seniors, and graduate students of Economics, Business Administration and related fields with "hands on" experience working in the Commercial Section of a U.S. Embassy. The program is uncompensated and designed to encourage students to consider careers in the commercial field. Internships in the Work Study Program are considered to be adjunct to an applicant's education. Students must be currently enrolled and taking at least one half of a full time academic workload. They must also plan to continue their education immediately upon termination of their internship. Interns typically serve for one semester or quarter during their academic year, or for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer, U.S. citizenship and good academic standing are required, along with the successful completion of a security assurance check. U.S. State Department (U.S. Government) The Department of State hires both unpaid and paid interns for a variety of programs in the US and abroad. Some positions available at US Foreign Service postings abroad. Requires US citizenship and at least junior standing. UN Headquarters Internship Program (UN Organization) The United Nations provides opportunities for students enrolled in a graduate programme to undertake an internship at its Headquarters in New York, Geneva, Vienna, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Bangkok, Beirut and Santiago. UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UN Organization) The different departments of UNHCR in the Geneva and Budapest offices offer internships to young people throughout the year. Some family duty field offices also take on interns. The duration of internships normally lasts between two and six months. The kind of work interns are offered depends on UNHCR requirements as well as the qualifications and interests of the applicant. Most interns work on a project which will benefit both them and UNHCR, in fields such as refugee protection (legal), international relations, administration and public affairs. UN Population Fund (UN Organization) The UNFPA Internship Program offers a small group of outstanding students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNFPA operations. It is designed to complement development oriented studies with practical experience in various aspects of UNFPA work. Applicants should have expressed interest in the field of development; ability to adapt to new environments and work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds. 10 UN Women Internship Program (UN Organization) The UN Women Internship Program offers a small group of outstanding graduate level students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UN Women s work. It is designed to complement women's development oriented studies with practical experience in various aspects of multilateral technical cooperation, but also complements other international studies, including law. Internship assignments vary in length according to the availability and academic requirements of the intern, as well as the needs of UN Women. Assignments are available on a part time and full time basis throughout the year. UNICEF Intern Program (UN Organization) The UNICEF Internship Program offers eligible/qualified students at both Headquarters and country offices the opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff. Eligible applicants need to be a currently enrolled graduate or post graduate student in a field related to UNICEF s interests, fluent in English and one other UNICEF working language i.e. French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian or Chinese, and with excellent academic performance, as demonstrated by recent university or institution records. United Nations Development Program Internship (UN Organization) Internships offer a small group of outstanding graduate level students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP's work. They are designed to complement development oriented studies with practical experience in various aspects of multilateral technical cooperation, but also complements other international studies, including law. Eligible candidates must be enrolled in a graduate level program in a development related field such as economics, public or business administration or environmental studies and will return to those studies upon completion of the program. Candidates must also have written and spoken proficiency in at least one and preferably two of the three working languages used by the UNDP: English, French and Spanish. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UN Organization) Students from a wide range of disciplines, are all able to apply for individual 1 4 month internships at UNESCO Headquarters and Field Offices. Depending on your qualifications, these internships relate either to the Organization s strategic activities or to administrative or technical functions. The aim is to give you professional experience in an international organization which relates to and supplements your studies. An internship affords you the opportunity to work in a multicultural, intergovernmental organization. United Nations Foundation Internship (UN Organization) The UN foundation offers semester long full and part time internships during the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates. Our interns participate in a variety of activities and perform a variety of tasks in support of the department for which they work. The number and nature of internships depends on the needs of the various departments. Applicants should be enrolled in a degree granting program in an undergraduate or graduate school during the
11 internship, or should be a recent graduate with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development. USAID International Development Internship Program (U.S. Government) The U.S. Agency for International Development will be sponsoring internships throughout the academic year. We seek highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students studying a wide variety of fields, including engineering, computer science, mathematics, economics, foreign languages, area studies, business administration, accounting, international relations, finance, logistics, human resources, geography, public health, national security studies, military and foreign affairs, political science and public administration. Selected interns will be placed in various bureaus within the agency. Two programs, the Student Career Experience Program and the Student Temporary Experience Program are available. USAID works in more than 100 countries around the world. WISE Abroad (Placement Fee) WISE Abroad adds value to your international education experience primarily in two ways, through diverse and creative programs, and affordable program fees. Unlike other international education providers, WISE Abroad offers programs at competitive prices because it maintains low administrative fees by collaborating with partners overseas who operate and manage programs out of their existing offices. World Food Program (International Organization) The objectives of the Internship Programme are to promote among the participants a better understanding of the United Nations and of the World Food Programme. Internships provide Divisions at Headquarters or Country Offices with the assistance of outstanding young students specializing in fields relevant to WFP activities. World Health Organization (International Organization) Internships are available in a wide variety of areas related to the technical work of WHO. The duration of WHO internships is between a minimum of 6 weeks to a maximum of 12 weeks. Exceptionally, internships may be extended up to 24 weeks to respond to special academic requirements or particular needs of the receiving programme. World Internships (Placement Fee) We offer you the opportunity to intern abroad in 7 exciting and diverse countries: Australia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand and Spain. Internships are customized to fit your educational and professional background and are available year round so you can intern for 1 month up to 1 year.
12 World Wildlife Fund (International Organization) WWF Internships are typically for graduate students but may be applicable for advanced undergraduates. Hours are flexible and internships are usually unpaid. In general, our interns need solid data management and writing skills, self motivation, an ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Specific skills (required or preferred) are listed with each project, along with the primary contact person. WorldTeach (Placement Fee) As a WorldTeach volunteer, you will witness firsthand the challenges and rewards of education in a developing country. You will share the skills and knowledge gained through your education and life experience with your students, and you will make a lasting difference in their lives, opening their eyes to a world beyond their classrooms.
