4 Top performance for process and system control One for all XCA 1100 Maintenance-free high-performance IPC for controlling and operating The rugged XCA 1100 Top controller unites the advantages of an original controller with the performance of a modern industry-standard PC. Its high performance, communicative versatility and visualisation under Windows XP make it perfect for use in process and system control. It provides a high degree of stability, operates with passive cooling as well as a solid state disk and contains no moving parts that wear. The XCA 1100 is shock resistant even in rough environments and exceptionally fault tolerant. With the embedded WIN XP operating system, the controller requires no uninterruptible power system and can be switched on and off at any time. This also results in a very short boot time. Suitable bus couplers are provided for connecting the conventional bus systems. At the I/O level, the XCA 1100 uses a wide range of digital and analog input, output and combination modules from the proven Promodul-U series. 5 Central control of highly complex applications XCS 700 The modular XCS 700 was created for systems and extremely fast, highly complex machines. The openness, flexibility and convenient applicability of the XCS 700 has proven itself when maximum speed and precision is required and when a variety of sensor signals and actuators must be read and controlled. The short time required for configuration makes the engineering transparent and corresponds to the experience and ways of thinking of application engineers. The modular concept offers up to 4096 fast I/O points in the switch cabinet with reduced space requirements. Suitable bus couplers are provided for connecting all conventional bus systems. 6 Versatile for fast machines and manufacturing lines Efficient and convenient XCS 500/540 The universal XCS 500/540 in a robust steel housing for the DIN rail or screw mounting form the powerful mid-range of the XCS controllers. Even the basic model with its remarkable performance covers the largest part of industrial production requirements. In complex production machines as well as in manufacturing lines of factory automation: thanks to its many interfaces, the XCS 500/540 fits in various production environments without problem. The high-speed XRIO interface can be directly connected to digital, analog and special modules from the extensive RIO system and XCS micro system as an I/O level without detour via a field bus. 8 The cost-effective first step Space-saving the field bus I/O system micro The slim I/Os are impressive with their enormous I/O density. All I/Os have a diagnostics LED per channel. The I/O channels are a special highlight and can be programmed as an input or output. These channels can also be used as direct readback outputs to allow for particularly safe monitoring. Extremely fast response in the periphery The 2 interrupt inputs of the PLC XCX micro field bus is an enormous advantage of the I/O system. Each field bus PLC has the advantage of being able to respond without detour via the master PLC and the corresponding bus run times on site. In this way, the faster response of a field bus PLC increases the precision of production. The XCX micro is setting new standards as the short response time to an interrupt input of only 0.2 ms is extraordinarily fast in the field bus periphery. 8

9 Precise the field bus I/O system RIO Bus coupler with or without intelligence Economy bus couplers and I/O modules with integrated coupler are a cost-effective entry model. The BC bus couplers with display and keyboard allow decentralized commissioning without a field bus and bus-node diagnostics without external devices. Convenient I/O modules With one LED and measuring point per channel, all I/O modules provide precise control. They remain state of the art to this date and the electronics can be replaced without disconnecting wiring. They also have spring terminals and allow for a 3-wire connection. It also operates with Multiprog and optimises the use of computing capacity by multitasking. With 8 RIO modules it locally controls up to 128 digital or 56 analog I/Os. With its function modules for positioning and axis interface, temperature measurement or fast counters, microline can control feed axes, monitor processes and control subtasks independently. 9

10 Tamper-proof recording of operating data Efficient production Machine Data Logger (MDL) The Machine Data Logger saves any process data permanently and in a tamper-proof manner. The incorruptible documentation of operating conditions, machine usage, machine maintenance, etc. makes it possible to give performance-based warranties. The manufacturer can now define his warranties precisely, and users can plan reliably. Other advantages for the user: The previous fixed time limits of the warranty period can now be dispensed with for low machine run times. Reliable and fair: warranty based on usage Warranties based on performance produce safety for machine manufacturers and machine users. Previously, time-based warranties were considered to be for periods of time supposedly with no damage; unforeseeable risks such as continuous machine operation at the limit or negligent servicing are not detected here. Risks like these can be handled with the MDL. Improve availability and reduce service costs The operating data saved in the MDL allows for graded early warning functions of the manufacturer if selected operating parameters approach the limit. As a result, production interruptions are reduced, can be planned better and service costs do not arise after fixed time periods as the requirements are load-dependent. 10

11 Incorruptible control Incorruptible as a flight recorder During operation, the master PLC writes the selected data via the bus to the read-only memory of the MDL. Each write access is internally recorded with a time stamp. The data are stored zero-voltage fail-safe for 15 years and can be read by the machine manufacturer via the USB interface and an Excel macro in spreadsheet format. Each MDL operates in a machine-related manner. Exchanging the MDL or unauthorised access to the data storage is impossible. Even if the MDL is destroyed, as a rule the memory module can still be read by Schleicher. Enormous advantages for rental and sale With tamper-proof operational data logging, the machine performance can be precisely recorded and the sales value of a machine has a real basis beyond estimates based on age and condition. The rental of machines is much less risky using MDL and rental costs for construction machinery can therefore drop in the medium term. Also useful in the event of damage When PLC parameters are saved in the MDL, a PLC that is booted again or replaced can parameterise itself from the MDL independently. The permitted length of the Profibus DP also allows the MDL to be positioned away from endangered system parts. 11
