1 Straton and Zenon for Advantech ADAM-5550 Copalp integrates the straton runtime into the ADAM-5550 device from Advantech Project Introduction: Programmable Application Controllers (PAC) are powerful and versatile controllers combining a PLC's ruggedness with a PC's functionality under a flexible, open architecture. Unlike PLC s, PAC s offer open, modular architectures, the rationale being that because most industrial applications are customized, the control hardware used for them needs to allow engineers to pick and choose the other components in the control system architecture without having to worry whether or not they will be compatible with the controller. Programmable Automation Controller Generally, PACs and PLCs serve the same purpose. Both are primarily used to perform automation, process control, and data acquisition functions such as digital and analog control, serial string handling, PID, motion control, and machine vision. The parameters within which PACs operate to achieve this, however, sometimes run counter to how a PLC functions. PACs and PLCs are also programmed differently. PLCs are often programmed in ladder logic, a graphical programming language resembling the rails and rungs of ladders that is designed to emulate old electrical relay wiring diagrams. PAC control programs are usually developed with more generic software tools that permit the designed program to be shared across several different machines, processors, HMI terminals or other components in the control system architecture. 2 The extremely versatile ADAM-5550CE can serve multiple domains and is able to handle complex control requirements, high speed analog measurement, multiple programs with different cycle times, open communication functions, and enterprise-level network integration. Deterministic I/O ADAM-5550CE can guarantee deterministic I/O at 1 ms. This feature guarantees control and response speed at I/O level so HMI software or operations of other application programs cannot affect the I/O control performance. Remote I/O Expansibility ADAM-5550CE supports not only Modbus/RTU Master function via serial ports, but also the Modbus/TCP Client to retrieve data from remote I/O, and Modbus/TCP Server to exchange data with other Modbus devices via Ethernet port. This Modbus feature is very useful when the control system needs expand the remote I/O modules or connect to other controllers. Rich Support to ADAM-5000 I/O Modules Most of the ADAM-5000 I/O modules are supported by ADAM-5550CE including analog I/O modules, digital I/O modules, and motion control module. All the operations of supported modules are the same with the operations of ADAM-5510CE series. AMONet Motion Control Modules AMONet Module supports two RS-485 master ports, and transfers data between host and slaves directly without any operations in between. Each port of the master can control up to 2048 I/O points, 64 axes, or a combination of I/O points and axes for motion control. The master ports support up to 20 Mbps transfer rate and a maximum communication distance of up to 100 meters. The communication between master and slave is based on a customized RS-485 solution that saves wires, covers a long distance, supports high-speed communication and has time-deterministic features. Various functions can be chosen on the slave modules, and standard industrial DIN rail mounting design makes it easy to distribute them in the field.

3 Single Development Tool A single programming tool provides transparent access for all parameters and functions within the entire system. A single platform can combine PLC, SoftLogic, remote input/output (I/O), motion control, PID control, data handling and SCADA functionality. The intelligent integration of the SCADA and the PLC allows the realization of projects with only one single data source. In the past it was not possible to project/program the PLC and the visualization with only one data source - two data sources were always necessary and two separate data point lists had to be maintained, resulting in errors, non-effective use of resources and longer engineering times. zenon is an easy to use and powerful software for industrial automation from COPA-DATA. The platform-independent and open system is used by companies of all sizes worldwide for process visualization as well as HMI systems or process control systems SCADA. zenon-based IEC support The zenon driver fully exploits IEC by providing a consistent communication protocol and unified data model for all areas from the network control stations to the switchgear using industrial Ethernet technology and standard hardware. Automatic engineering saves time The emphasis of the driver development was on the clear and convenient data handling of the driver. As such, a sophisticated browsing mechanism is provided which automatically recognizes the type of data using heuristic CDC-recognition (Common Data Classes).

4 For example, PLC data is immediately available within the browsing mechanism, with the same name that is used on the PLC. At the same time, the data is automatically typed as a value or validity information and the data points are created with no loss of information. The driver also supports the IEC real-time PLC time-stamping and plc-quality according to the standard. zenon meets FDA 21 CFR Part 11 requirements The American Food and Drug Administration published regulations FDA 21 CFR (part 11) in 1997, regiments the electronically storage of data. (Part 11 of the text) All data recorded in the production of food and drugs must be in accordance with the FDA 21 CFR regulations. Only the end product (project) of the customer can be validated. The software product, however, has to offer the functionalities to enable the customer to create a validated project. straton is a soft logic, developed by COPALP, based on IEC and runs on the ADAM-5550CE real time operating system Windows CE. So it is innately guaranteed, that the straton runtime process is executed deterministically. The program interface supports all five in the IEC-defined languages SFC, FBD, ST, IL and LD and supports all current field bus systems. Straton has no backlash on the zenon Runtime and thus offers more safety for the application. The integration of straton into zenon leads to a SCADA system with integrated PLC logic which is called SCADA logic.

The straton Workbench IEC developer for WIN CE is included in the zenon 6.21 Editor for WIIN CE, which allows the programming of 256 tags and requires a zenon RT CE 256 Tags license. A Stand alone version of the straton Workbench is also available for developers who only need to build Soft logic applications. The user can choose a straton workbench stand alone version limited to 64,128 or 256 I/O s as he needs.
