WHO S WATCHING? CCTV footage of stations along the Central Line is monitored 24 hours a day in Metrorail s Control Centre. At all hours of the day, you ll find specially trained Protection Service officials reviewing camera footage from the stations along the Central Line, including access points, platforms, concourses and ticket offices. This was part of Prasa s modernisation project, with the Southern and Northern Line next. The cameras also allow Metrorail to watch customers and staff. This ensures everyone is being treated correctly and that Protection Service Officials are patrolling their stations, says Jan Jordaan, area security commander investigations. It also provides evidence for third-party claims. Any incidents are recorded along with the date, time, location and their nature. A backup of the footage is made too as recordings are kept for between seven and 14 days before being overwritten automatically. Each week, the register is given to the investigation department, who will look into each incident and take the necessary action. JIFFY VETKOEK Serves 4 to 6 Ingredients 500ml self-raising flour 10ml baking powder 5ml salt 250ml milk or water Oil for frying Golden syrup for serving Cheese for serving RECIPE Method 1. Combine all the ingredients, except the oil, in a mixing bowl. 2. Heat oil (about 1cm deep) in a pan. Fry tablepoonsfuls of the dough until cooked and they re crispy and brown on both sides. 3. Serve with golden syrup and cheese. Tips Add 250ml fresh or canned corn kernels to the dough to transform the vetkoek into fritters. Fill the vetkoek with curried mince.
