1 METRORAIL FESTIVE SEASON TRAIN SERVICE Regional manager Mthuthuzeli Swartz announced that Metrorail s customary seasonal train schedule adjustments will come into effect during the approaching festive season recess: Experience has shown significantly reduced weekday demand in patronage during the four week period with the majority of commuters taking holidays. He assured the public and visitors to Cape Town that the increased demand for trains on public holidays will be matched with the additional trains. Weekday schedules are adjusted to cater for lesser demand and some additional trains provided on public holidays during this period. Swartz wished commuters and visitors a safe festive season but cautioned against reckless travelling practices: No matter how exuberant our passengers may feel, they remain precious and we advise them to obey safety rules at all times. Legal Succession Act safety measures that customers are required to comply with at all times: Remain behind the yellow line on platforms; Embark/disembark from a train only when it has come to a complete stop; Keep train doors closed in transit; and Refrain from travelling between carriages. Swartz also warned commuters against travelling with large amounts of cash and openly displaying valuables: We advise our customers to be alert against opportunists waiting to deprive them of their hard earned money. He assured the travelling public that law enforcement agencies will be out in full force and asked that train users travel wisely during the holidays: Bearing simple safety tips in mind greatly reduces the chance of misfortune. Festive season safety tips: Keep valuables such as cellular phones and ipods out of sight. Stay in well lit and protected areas. Move to fuller coaches and stay in a group if comfortable in the presence of members of the group. Arrange with someone to accompany you from the station to your home if you travel after dark.
