1 NONPF 2014 ELECTION SLATE OF CANDIDATES Candidates provided the descriptions included in the slate President-Elect (Select 1) Nominees: Kathleen Delaney and Anne Thomas Kathleen Delaney, PhD, PMH-NP, FAAN Professor & Specialty Coordinator, Rush University Number of years in NONPF: 9 Nominee's academic and/or clinical background and leadership roles (e.g., organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the position sought (e.g., strategic planning, goal setting, problem solving, etc.): Dr Kathy Delaney is a Professor and the Director of the Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) NP program at Rush College of Nursing (CON) Chicago. She received her BSN from Georgetown, and MSN in Psychiatric Nursing from Catholic University and a PhD and PMH NP- Post- Masters from Rush CON. She has focused her practice on children with serious emotional disturbances, has written extensively on their treatment, and is currently the editor of the Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing. In the last 10 years she has received two HRSA grants to develop the PMH-NP program at Rush and has frequently presented at NONPF about the innovations in NP education she and the PMH faculty have engineered in competency based training. Dr Delaney has held leadership positions in several organizations: President of International Society of Psychiatric Nurses (ISPN)( ) and Division Director of both the Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nurses ( ) and the Society of Education and Research and Practice in Psychiatric Nursing (2002). With PCORI funding, Dr Delaney recently completed phase one of the development of a patient-centered outcome measure. Currently she is on the Board of the Illinois Center for Nursing and a member of the Illinois Healthcare Action Coalition (IHAC). She brings 10 years of experience in participating in federal APN workforce studies to IHAC and is involved in their efforts to survey Illinois NPs and collect vital practice data. Dr Delaney is currently the project director for the Rush Graduate Nurse Education (GNE) Demonstration project. In this role she is working with all NP specialties at Rush to develop and expand NP training models. Along with the four other GNE project teams across the country, she is working to utilize experiences gleaned from the GNE to secure continued federal support for NP education. Dr Delaney is a member of the Illinois Hospital Association s Behavioral Health Steering Committee and also serves on the Board of Trustees for Community Care Alliance of Illinois, a health plan dedicated to innovation in community-based health services specializing in the care of seniors and people with disabilities. In that role she has the opportunity to study models of health care for vulnerable populations and the effectiveness of team based and NP models of care. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: The NONPF strategic mission parallels Dr Delaney s commitment to quality NP education and designing innovative educational methods to advance NP training. Through her participation in an interdisciplinary group, ACHMA the

2 College of Behavioral Health Care Leadership, Dr Delaney has gained experience in how to increase awareness of an organization s core mission and strategies to influence health care policy. Over the past nine years she has participated in NONPF s PMH Sig, presented at the Annual Conferences, and was a member of both the Task force that developed the NONPF NP core competencies and the Task Force that revised the PMH NP Population-Focused Core Competencies. The NONPF competencies provide a clear roadmap for leadership roles NPs are prepared to assume. As Project Director of the GNE and President of ISPN, Dr Delaney has focused on crafting strategic messages on the value NPs bring to the workforce, and as a nationally recognized speaker on workforce development and transforming health care she has ample practice at delivering that message. She will look to use these skills at NONPF as the organization advances its strategic goal of influencing and advancing NP educational policy. NONPF is an organization that attracts members dedicated to preserving and advancing the quality of NP education and educating a work force of expert practitioners and leaders. There has never been a greater need for leadership in Health Care. NONPF members are poised to assume these roles. Dr Delaney has worked with Federal and State agencies and understands how to forge the connections that will move NONPF members into these leadership positions. Finally as President of ISPN, having worked alongside NONPF representatives in groups organized to implement the LACE model, Dr Delaney understands the value and necessity of collaboration across nursing organization. If elected, Dr Delaney will focus on strengthening these important connections that will ultimately strengthen NONPF and NP education. Anne Thomas, PhD, ANP-BC, GNP, FAANP Dean of Nursing, University of Indianapolis Number of years in NONPF: 19 Nominee's academic and/or clinical background and leadership roles (e.g., organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the etc.): Dr. Thomas s diverse background in leadership, clinical and organizational venues aligns with the president-elect position. She earned a BSN and MSN from the University of Texas at Arlington and a PhD in Nursing from Texas Women s University. As an adult/gerontological nurse practitioner for 27 years, Dr. Thomas has worked in rural primary care and occupational and mental health care settings. She has been instrumental in developing and implementing several nurse-managed clinics and has received several awards for her work in this arena. Dr. Thomas has held academic leadership positions at the University of Texas at Arlington, Indiana State University and the University of Michigan, and is currently the Dean of the School of Nursing at the University of Indianapolis. She was also the director for Research Nursing within the Medical Oncology Research Clinical Unit at the National Cancer Institute and the Director of the Health Promotion Laboratory at the National Institute for Nursing Research. Her professional work also included engagement and leadership with ANCC, CCNE, NONPF, and various professional nursing organizations in Indiana. She is a frequently sought after for her curriculum and strategic planning expertise as it relates to NP education and employment, and nurse-managed centers. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: Dr. Thomas has been an active member of NONPF since 1995 and her activities within the organization clearly demonstrate congruence with NONPF s mission statement to be a leader in quality nurse practitioner education and its organizational goals to advance quality, influence policy, foster diversity, promote scholarship and strengthen resources. Over her 19 years in the organization, Dr. Thomas has been a consistently active member by providing leadership in numerous venues. She reviewed abstracts for numerous national conferences as well as the Small Grants Award committee, served as the co-chair for the Program Director Special Interest Group and the Faculty Development Committee and served 2 terms on the Board of Directors. Most recently, she chaired the DNP Core Competency Task Force and the

3 Population Focused NP Competency Task Force. Her work with the Program Directors SIG resulted in co-editing the Program Directors Manual and several national pre-conference workshops. Dr. Thomas s knowledge of NP education, curriculum and policy and her ability to engage diverse workgroups is well suited to the president-elect position to promote NONPF s mission and goals. Treasurer (Select 1) Nominees: Geraldine Budd and Katherine Dontje Geraldine Budd, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, CRNP, FAANP Assistant Dean, Harrisburg Campus, Widener University Number of years in NONPF: 18 organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the position sought (e.g., strategic planning, goal setting, problem solving, etc.): Dr. Geri Budd has a wealth of experience to bring to the NONPF treasurer position. She has been a family nurse practitioner for 18 years, graduating with a Post MS certificate from Adelphi University. She has a BSN and MSN from the University of Southern Maine and a PhD in Nursing from Duquesne University. Dr. Budd did post-doctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania in the center for Women, Families, and Reduction of Health Disparities. She has worked in multiple clinical areas including a rural nursing center with elders and families, college health, family planning and women s health, research, and is currently in family practice. She has been a nurse educator for over 20 years, teaching at all levels in the curriculum. For six years she has served as the Assistant Dean at Widener University School of Nursing, where she coordinates the FNP program and is the sole administrator of a distant campus. Her administrative and budgeting familiarity makes her well prepared for the NONPF treasurer position. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: Dr. Budd is a long time member of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Budd s previous NONPF experience includes regular attendance and frequent presentations at annual conferences. She has participated in the NONPF Academic Nursing Center and Research Special Interest Groups. She previously served in an elected position on the NONPF Nominating Committee. In 2004, with the support of NONPF, she was a fellow in the federal government Human Resource Service Administration s (HRSA) Primary HealthCare Fellowship, which emphasized the national safety net and health workforce issues, especially the need for a diverse workforce that mirrors the populations served. In 1998 she started a regional NP group and was subsequently instrumental in forming the Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners. She plans to bring the skills and experiences that she has gained in working with national organizations, nursing leaders, and various healthcare and educational entities to the NONPF treasurer position. By serving on the board, she intends to advance the quality of NP education, promote policy development, uphold the need for a diverse workforce, encourage nurse practitioner scholarship, and steward the fiscal resources of NONPF.

4 Katherine Dontje, PhD, FNP-BC Director Graduate Clinical Programs, Michigan State University Number of years in NONPF: 15 organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the position sought (e.g., strategic planning, goal setting, problem solving, etc.): Dr. Katherine Dontje is the Director of Graduate Clinical Programs and Assistant Professor at Michigan State University. She received her MSN from Michigan State University and her PhD from University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Dr. Dontje has been a Nurse Practitioner for over 25 years and faculty member for 18 years. During her time as faculty, she has remained clinically active working in a collaborative practice with the Department of Medicine. Her clinical focus has included Nurse Managed Centers and serving venerable populations including uninsured and underinsured. As Director of Graduate Clinical Program she is responsible for oversight of curriculum implantation for three master s concentrations and the DNP. In her director role, she has done strategic planning and financial management of these programs. Dr. Dontje serves as a member of the Governing Board of the Michigan State University HealthTeam. This group is responsible for monitoring the three health professions practice activities including practice finances. She has also been active on the Clinical Informatics Steering Committee which implements policies for meaningful use criteria and more recently the conversion to ICD-10 which has significant financial implications for the practice. Her research focus is team based and is focused on engaging patients in self-management strategies to improve outcomes for chronic conditions through technology. Dr. Dontje has been involved with the Michigan Primary Care Consortium where she have serves on the Board of Directors and the Education committee helping to develop educational opportunities to inform primary care practitioners around the state. These include legislative issues at both the state and national level. She is a member of the Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners and has participated in policy development and education within this group. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: As a member of NONPF for over 15 years, Dr. Dontje has participated in a number of subgroups and been involved in the Nurse Managed Center SIG and the Program Directors SIG. She has also provided written work which was highlighted in a monograph related to models of nursing practice. She is passionate about the importance of collecting data through technology to articulate the role of the NPs within the healthcare system. She has been a member of the Nurse Managed Centers Consortium and participated as lead faculty for the college in the Kellogg Nurse Managed Center Grant. Through this grant numerous publications and presentations were done that highlighted the role of the nurse practitioner in providing primary care. Dr. Dontje feels finding ways to facilitate educational opportunities to articulate the NP role in providing high quality care within an increasingly complex health care system is an area of continued focus for NONPF. One of the areas she is interested in pursuing is to evaluate how the change from master s prepared nurse practitioner to the doctorally prepared nurse practitioner will change the NP outcomes in regard to quality patient care. NONPF can be instrumental in monitoring the changes that are occurring in practice and facilitate education of nurse practitioner students to meet the changing healthcare system. Her role in policy has been advocacy at the local level and informing policy makers at the state and national level. The importance of collecting and analyzing data to influence policy cannot be underestimated. She believes that the Affordable Care Act is a tremendous opportunity and challenge for Nurse Practitioners and educators. There is a need to facilitate changes in education and practice with a focus on the changing financial aspects of healthcare. Without the constant vigilance of organizations like NONPF, the Nurse Practitioner role will not continue to expand and grow to meet the needs of patients within the rapidly changing financial and clinical situations.

5 Board Member at Large (Select up to 3) Nominees: Susan Corbridge, Brenda Hoskins, Jacqueline Kelly, Susan Kelly-Weeder, D Ann Somerall, and Andrea Wolf Susan Corbridge, PhD, ACNP, FAANP Director, Graduate Clinical Studies, University of Illinois Chicago Number of years in NONPF: 12 Nominee's academic and/or clinical background and leadership roles (e.g., organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the etc.): Dr. Susan J. Corbridge is the Director of Graduate Clinical Studies (MS & DNP) at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing. In addition, she s been the Director of the ACNP program for the past 15 years. Dr. Corbridge received a BSN from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, a MS and ACNP post masters certificate from Rush University in Chicago, IL, and a PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She maintains a clinical practice with the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago Health Sciences System. Dr. Corbridge s area of interest is pulmonary and critical care and she has published widely and lectures both nationally and internationally in this area. In addition, she is interested in nurse practitioner educational outcomes and has studied educational methods such as simulation versus online learning and integration of simulation and Team-Based Learning into nurse practitioner curricula. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: Dr. Corbridge is a current Memberat-large of the National Board of Directors of NONPF, completing a two-year elected term. She is also a fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and a fellow in the Institute of Medicine Chicago. She received the NONPF 2010 national award for Outstanding Nurse Practitioner Educator of the year and is a two time recipient of the Nurse Educators of Illinois Award. Dr. Corbridge has been a member of NONPF for 12 years, an active member of the ACNP special interest group and is a contributing author for the ACNP skills manual. Brenda L Hoskins, DNP, ARNP, GNP-BC, FAANP Clinical Associate Professor and Coordinator, Adult/Gero DNP Program University of Iowa Number of years in NONPF: 5 organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the position sought (e.g., strategic planning, goal setting, problem solving, etc.): Dr. Hoskins is a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of clinical experience and the Coordinator of the Adult/Gero Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program at The University of Iowa College of Nursing (UICON). She developed and maintained an independent practice in rural Iowa for 9 years prior to joining the UICON Faculty Practice. Her practice has been focused on primary care of the frail elderly, specializing in dementia care. She has been a voluntary health care provider in a community health clinic for the indigent for 5 years. During her tenure at the College, Dr. Hoskins has been instrumental in developing and growing the DNP program, has served on 2 task forces to redesign

6 both the DNP and PhD curricula, and as Chair, led the Faculty Practice Advisory committee in strategic planning. Additionally, she was a Faculty Council member and chaired the DNP Admission Committee, the GNP Strategic Initiative Committee, and co-chaired the Council on Student Affairs, Admission, and Progression. Dr. Hoskins currently serves as Chair of the DNP Forum, Chair of AGDNP Admission Committee, a Mentor in the Young Gero Clinician program, and is a member of the university wide Faculty Senate. She was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in 2009 and recently trained as a CCNE Evaluator. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: As Director of the Adult/Gero Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) program at the University of Iowa, Dr. Hoskins has been a member of NONPF since Through the knowledge gained during participation in NONPF webinars and conferences she has contributed to the development and ongoing improvement of our DNP program. Dr. Hoskins has played an important role in Iowa through her leadership roles in the Iowa Nurse Practitioner Society (INPS). Dr. Hoskins has served as President, Nominations Chair, Conference Committee and Legislative Committee of INPS. These activities and her leadership were critical to the growth and sustainability of INPS as a relatively new organization in Iowa. She has also served as Practice Chair for the then American College of Nurse Practitioners. In her role as Director of the AGNP program Dr. Hoskins has not only taught the didactic and clinical components of the AGNP but has led the advanced role and policy courses for the DNP program and supervised many DNP projects. She continues as an expert clinician providing services through the College Faculty Practice which brings the real world scenario into the classroom. Dr. Hoskins is an independent and critical thinker who is a strong advocate for NP practice and removing barriers to full realization of the NP scope of practice. Her insight, experience and passion for the role of the NP would be of great value to the Board as it moves forward in envisioning the future of NP education. Jacqueline Kelley, DNP, MPH, CPNP Director of Graduate Nursing Programs, Mount Marty College Number of years in NONPF: 11 organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the etc.): Dr. Jacqueline Kelley is the Director of the Graduate NP program at Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota. She received her DNP from Case Western University and her MPH from the University of Minnesota. As an NP graduate of the University of Colorado, she has been involved in the growth of the profession over the past 32 years. Her clinical background as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner includes practice with Indian Health Service, School-based Health Centers and with Parent-Infant mental health programs. Dr. Kelley has taught nursing for 18 years in South Dakota and 2 years at the University of Arizona. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: Dr. Kelley would like to represent the needs of small college faculty by serving on the NONPF Board. Dr. Kelley has attended NONPF conferences but has not had an active role to this point in the organization. She is past president of the South Dakota Nurses Association and a founding member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of South Dakota. Through active participation and leadership with the SDNA Government Relations Committee, she was elected to the State Senate and led Rural Health Initiatives including funding for the SDSU Master's in Nursing program and USD Outreach Nursing programs.

7 Susan Kelly-Weeder, PhD, FNP-BC Associate Professor, Boston College Number of years in NONPF: 10 organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the etc.): Dr. Kelly-Weeder, an Associate Professor at Boston College Connell School of Nursing (BCCSON), is an FNP educator, researcher, mentor, and former program director. Over the past 19 years she has led multiple NP education, practice, research, and policy initiatives. Dr. Kelly Weeder received both her Masters (FNP) and PhD (Nursing and Health Promotion) from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. As the former FNP Program Director at BCCSON, Dr. Kelly-Weeder led one of the top ranked programs in the U.S. In that capacity, she spear-headed extensive curricular changes, including work on the DNP Task Force. Dr. Kelly-Weeder is also a past recipient of the Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses Excellence in Teaching award for her work in preparing FNP students. Dr. Kelly-Weeder s clinical and research foci are centered on health behavior change. Her NIH-funded, practice-based research investigating the co-occurrence of binge drinking and binge eating in college-age students aims to develop web-based interventions to reduce these high risk behaviors. As a result of her commitment and expertise in these areas, Dr. Kelly-Weeder has been actively involved in university-wide policy initiatives to reduce campus alcohol use and disordered eating behaviors. Since her initial introduction to NONPF, Dr. Kelly-Weeder has been dedicated to this organization and has assumed increasingly progressive leadership roles. In her first term as Board Member-at-Large, she has been involved in the organization s strategic planning initiative, worked with Curriculum committee in the development of the Independent Practice paper currently published on the NONPF website, collaborated with board colleagues to investigate the research content offered in DNP programs, and is currently developing a national NONPF-sponsored curriculum survey. As a 6-year member of the Conference Planning Committee, she has been involved in content development, speaker selection, and overall planning with the conference chair and committee members. In addition, Dr. Kelly-Weeder was an active member of the planning committee for this year s special NONPF conference NP Education Today - NP Education Tomorrow. Dr. Kelly-Weeder would like to continue in the Board Member-at-Large position so that she can complete the work on these initiatives and thereby continue to advance the goals of NONPF. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: Dr. Kelly-Weeder possesses multiple skills and attributes that position her to advance the goals of NONPF. Her wealth of knowledge and experience in leading a top-ranked FNP program is clear evidence of her ability to create and implement initiatives to advance quality in NP education and practice. As a practicing FNP, Dr. Kelly-Weeder has extensive experience with diverse patient populations and has translated that clinical experience to her work with FNP students. As an educator, her work with minority students and faculty, has increased her understanding of the unique strengths and challenges encountered by these groups. Dr. Kelly-Weeder will continue to bring her experience in working with diverse patients, students, and faculty, as well as her commitment to the development of an NP workforce that better reflects our nation s diverse populations, to her work on the NONPF Board. As a board member, Dr. Kelly-Weeder has capitalized on these first-hand experiences to positively influence policy initiatives related to improving access to care for all Americans, as well as advancing NONPF s goal of fostering diversity.

8 As a scholar, Dr. Kelly-Weeder has her own program of research that has been sustained through major grant funding. She also plays a pivotal role in mentoring new faculty members as they transition to their faculty roles and learn to balance their research along with teaching and service priorities. As a board member, Dr. Kelly-Weeder has and will continue to leverage these grantsmanship, publication, and mentoring skills to advance NONPF s goals of promoting scholarship and strengthening resources. D Ann Somerall, DNP, CRNP, FNP-BC Program Director, FNP Program, University of Alabama Birmingham Number of years in NONPF: 7 Nominee's academic and/or clinical background and leadership roles (e.g., organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the position sought (e.g., strategic planning, goal setting, problem solving, etc.): Dr. Somerall received her BSN from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1995; MSN with a concentration as a Women's Health NP in 1999 and a post-msn as a Family Nurse Practitioner in She was awarded her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in 2011 with a focus on using the Health Belief Model for improved diabetic control with newly diagnosis Type 2 Diabetic patients in a low income setting. Dr. Somerall also has a BS in Secondary Education and a MAEd. Dr. Somerall has taught in the distance accessible MSN Family Nurse Practitioner program since inception in 2002 and has served as the Program Director since October, The combination of nursing and education degrees has allowed her to remodel the FNP distance accessible program to be an exemplar program. Dr. Somerall's clinical practice has included working at the UAB Breast Health Clinic, Planned Parenthood of Alabama, pain clinic practice and internal medicine clinic practice. Presently, Dr. Somerall is the interim director of the UAB SON Foundry Clinic where she is also in Faculty Practice. Dr. Somerall serves as a preceptor for multiple Adult and Family NP students from UAB and other Universities. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: Dr. Somerall has participated in the NONPF annual conferences and attended the Special Conference in Washington, D. C. on Criteria for Evaluation of Nurse Practitioner Programs. The mission of NONPF is "the leader in quality nurse practitioner education. Dr. Somerall s professional goal is to be an innovator of teaching concepts in the UAB FNP program which aligns with the mission of NONPF. Dr. Somerall s Master s in Education is a guiding factor in her ability to achieve her goal of being an innovator in nurse practitioner education. Dr. Somerall holds true to NONPF s organizational goal of advancing quality in NP education by her participation in on-campus educational updates and serving as a super user team member for the implementation of the new Canvas LMS for UAB. Dr. Somerall also serves on the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Alabama (NPAA) board of director s as Vice-President of Membership striving to advance NP education and NP educational policy throughout Alabama.

9 Andrea Wolf, DNP, CRNP Associate Professor and Director, Adult-Gerontology NP Program, York College of Pennsylvania Number of years in NONPF: 9 organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the etc.): Dr. Andrea Wolf is currently the Associate Professor and Director of the Adult-Gerontology NP Program at York College of Pennsylvania. She received her MSN from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984 and completed her DNP degree at Case Western Reserve University in She has been a nurse practitioner for almost 30 years, certified as Adult (1984) and Family (1999). She also became a Psychiatric-Mental Health CNS in Her clinical background includes emergency medicine, women s health and family practice. Since 1991, Dr. Wolf has maintained clinical practice 16 hours per week at Lancaster Family Practice Associates, Lancaster PA. She began her role as a NP educator in 1994 and has been the Coordinator/Director of NP programs since1995, first at Widener University and now York College of PA. Dr. Wolf led the development of the DNP curriculum at York College of PA and directed the program from 2010 to She is currently finishing serving as Project Director of the HRSA ANE Award : Enhancing an Adult NP Program for Transition to Adult- Gerontology NP Program. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: Dr. Wolf currently serves as Chair of the NONPF Curricular Leadership Committee and was the committee co-chair She has been a contributor to numerous NONPF publications, including the Preceptor Manual and the curriculum guidelines. She led the development and editing of the NP Core Competency Toolkit (2013) and she was a reviewer for the program directors guide (2012). Dr. Wolf regularly attends the NONPF annual conference and has given several presentations. She is an active member of the NONPF Program Director s Special Interest Group.

She established curricular goals and outcome measures in program evaluation. She assumed responsibility for track coordination in 2001 at a small, private college. In 2007, she took over track coordination in a large, state university program. She completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice program in As Director of Clinical Practice since 2012, she is involved with both nurse managed healthcare delivery affiliated with the university and faculty practice opportunities outside of the university. As professional responsibilities progressed, so did her involvement in strategic planning at the program, school and organizational levels. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: Dr. DiGiulio has been a member of NONPF for over a decade, initially while on the faculty of a small, private school and currently at a large health science center. The varied resources and academic environments of these settings have afforded insight that is helpful in discussions with other NONPF members. In addition, the resources available through NONPF have provided guidance in both curricular development and revision. Program outcomes and quality metrics are based on the Core Competencies provided through the organization. Connections have been made with faculty members in other parts of the country when attending the annual meetings. Interactions with members from different areas (whether geographical, ethnicity, type of program) allows for rich discussion and creates the opportunity to evolve our practice. A recent recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Practice award, Mary has an appreciation for both the academic arena and maintaining competence through current clinical practice. As faculty, we have the opportunity to help shape the future of our profession.

David LaFevers, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC Assistant Clinical Professor, University of Missouri Kansas City Number of years in NONPF: 4 Nominee's academic and/or clinical background and leadership roles (e.g., organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the position sought (e.g., strategic planning, goal setting, problem solving, etc.): Dr. Dave LaFevers joined faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2010 and is currently the Assistant Program Director for the BSN-DNP program and an Assistant Clinical Professor. He teaches Policy and Advocacy, Economics & Quality, Systems and Leadership, and Ethics in the DNP program. He also teaches a Health Promotion MSN course. He serves on the UMKC DNP Curriculum Committee and the BSN to DNP Curriculum Task Force. As well, he serves on the Faculty Staff Capital Campaign Committee. Dr. LaFevers began practicing as a Family NP in a Rural Healthcare Clinic in He later went on to create a walk-in care clinic for the rural practice and was the manager for two years. In 2006 he began providing non-surgical orthopedic care. Since 2008, he has been working with spine and neuropathic chronic pain patients, working hours per week. He serves as a preceptor/mentor for new Nurse Practitioners in his current practice site. Dr. LaFevers is currently involved with regional and state level Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) groups. He is the Chair of Networking for the Advanced Practice Nurses of the Ozarks (APNO) and also serves on the conference committee. He is the APNO representative to the AANP, as well as the Missouri Nurses Association (MONA). In the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, he served as part of the Mentoring Program (March 2011-June 2013) and is a manuscript reviewer. He is active in non-partisan grass roots lobbying within these organizations. In recognition for this state-level policy work, he received the AANP State Excellence Award in He has also been a member of Sigma Theta Tau since Dr. LaFevers received the Doctoral of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in 2009, Master of Science Nursing (MSN) in Family Practice in 1998 and BSN in to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: Dr. LaFevers is currently the Chair of the NONPF Conference Committee. He is currently active in this role and eagerly accepting new responsibilities in relation to the position. His past experiences of involvement with the APNO Conference Committee provides working insight to the importance of professional organizations and annual conferences. He has served on the NONPF Conference Committee since Dr. LaFevers has also served on the Member Resources Committee since His current role with regional and state level organizations allows for active involvement in new membership. He has completed a small attitudinal, comparative/descriptive study that looked at professional organizations membership. A report of the study findings is accepted for publishing by a peer reviewed journal. The nominee s past and current roles within regional, state and national level policy development allows for greater insight. This active involvement with these and other professional organizations (AANP and ACNP) can provide for connections that could prove useful for NONPF. The nominee s role within the University as well as with Regional, State and National Level organizations has always been one of inclusion and activism. Inter-professional development is essential for the success of the organization as well as the profession.

Kathleen Sparbel, PhD, FNP-BC Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Illinois at Chicago Number of years in NONPF: 13 organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the etc.): Dr. Kathleen Sparbel graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1996 and earned her PhD in Nursing, Parent/Child/Family area from the University of Iowa in 2006 and postdoctoral fellowship in clinical genetics in Her clinical background focused in community settings both in direct care, home care coordination and program development; as an FNP, Dr. Sparbel has experience in Family Practice and in a School-Based Health Center. In 2000, Dr. Sparbel was a founding member of the Quad Cities Area Advanced Practice Nursing/Physician Assistant Alliance, a regional interprofessional organization in Iowa and Illinois, was the organization s first President, and served on the Board of Directors for 8 years. She was a 2003 Summer Genetics Institute NIH fellow, President of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics (ISONG) , and served on the Board of Directors of ISONG from During this time she was instrumental in policy, strategic planning, and ensuring fiscal sustainability for ISONG and was on the review board for the establishment of Genetics and Genomics Competencies for Graduate Nurses. Her ISONG work included being on several committees, including Nominating Committee for ISONG officers, board members, and awards. In 2013, Dr. Sparbel received the ISONG Founder s Award for Service. As a UIC nursing faculty since 1998, Dr. Sparbel has taught nurse practitioner courses, served on departmental and college committees, and was chair of the College of Nursing nomination committee for six years. In 2013, she was instrumental in curriculum revisions, serving as a curriculum revision taskforce member at UIC to redesign NP education to an all DNP format. Since 2012, Dr. Sparbel has held UIC leadership positions as the Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program and as the Director of the Quad Cities Regional Campus for UIC College of Nursing. She directs strategic planning, fiscal viability, faculty and program development, and community collaboration for the FNP program across 5 campuses and for the Quad Cities Regional Program across specialties. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: Dr. Sparbel has been a member of NONPF since 2001, and has been a poster, podium, or armchair discussion presenter at seven NONPF Conferences. In 2008, Dr.Sparbel s electronic poster was selected for the Advanced Practice Education Associates Outstanding Poster Award at the 34th NONPF conference. Dr. Sparbel has taught professional issues in Advanced Practice Nursing practice. Her development of professional nursing organizations at the local/regional level and international level have included policy, procedure, and bylaws development. She demonstrates responsibility for advancing the quality of the UIC Family Nurse Practitioner program through mentoring faculty in five campuses on program quality, faculty teaching and scholarship development. Professional challenges facing the NP profession such as securing appropriate and sufficient practicum resources, incorporating interprofessional education in NP education, developing simulation within the FNP program, and achieving DNP core and specialty competencies have been a focus for Dr. Sparbel in UIC program development and curriculum revisions. Dr. Sparbel has also been instrumental in reviewing and critiquing Genetic and Genomic core competencies for Graduate nurses and establishing genetic/genomic standards for clinical practice. She provides skills in critical thinking,

13 policy development, collaboration across diverse stakeholders, curriculum development, and fiscal responsibility. Dr. Julie Stanik-Hutt ACNP, GNP, FAANP, FAAN Associate Professor, the Johns Hopkins University Number of years in NONPF: 17 organizational, policy education, etc), and experience relative to the etc.): Dr. Stanik-Hutt has 30 years APRN experience in acute and critical care, and nearly 20 years academic teaching experience. She has participated in the development and implementation of a variety of graduate programs. As a senior faculty member she has had many opportunities to mentor other faculty as they developed their academic careers. Dr. Stanik-Hutt has held a number of national leadership positions related to NP education, certification and practice. She is a past President of the American College of Nurse Practitioners, and has served on a number of committees for AANP, AACN (critical care), GAPNA and ANCC, related to NP education, certification, practice and policy (e.g. AANP Federal Policy Committee, GAPNA Health Affairs Committee, etc.). She is an experienced CCNE Accreditation On-Site Evaluator and has provided educational consultations to numerous schools. Through these experiences, Dr. Stanik Hutt has had the opportunity to get to meet and to exchange ideas regarding NP education with faculty from across the country. to the position, specifically addressing NONPF s current goals: Dr. Stanik-Hutt has served the organization through participation on a variety of committees and task forces, to advance the quality of NP education, strengthen educational resources, and influence policy. She regularly attends and has presented at many NONPF annual meetings. She has served NONPF as a member of the Curricular Leadership Committee, the Educational Resources Committee and the ACNP SIG. all of these activities have allowed Dr. Stanik Hutt to develop a large network of NP faculty colleagues, and to better understand the perspectives and concerns of other NONPF members. She will use insights gained from these experiences to contribute to the work of the Nominating Committee. She will help NONPF members to consider how their skills might contribute to the organization and match vacant positions, in order to create for the membership a diverse slate of candidates for office.
