4 In 2007 there were 720 Search and Rescues (SARs) for all vessels: 6,234.8 hours were spent on all SARs. There were 71 SARs reported for canoes and kayaks in FWC s Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) System. 6,234.8 hours divided by 720 Total SARs = hours x 71 NMB SARs = hours spent on SARs for canoes and kayaks in 2007.
5 On 6/01/2007 at 9:08 p.m., Dixie County Sheriff s Office received a complaint that a canoe group in Manatee Springs was overdue. Dixie County dispatched one deputy from 10:00 p.m. to 10:22 p.m. to check all boat ramps. FWC dispatched two officers from 11:27 p.m. to 3:14 a.m. Levy County Sheriff s Office dispatched one deputy from 10:32 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Gilchrist County S.O. dispatched one deputy from 9:53 p.m. to 10:14 p.m. Canoers were not aware of the tropical storm that was hitting the area that night. All individuals were found alive and well at 2:14 a.m.
6 Approximate Cost: Man hours: Dixie County: One deputy for 1 hour, 50 minutes (Starting base $14.58/hour) = $29.16 Levy County: One deputy for 4 hours, 13 minutes (Starting base $14.58/hour) = $61.97 Gilchrist County: One deputy for 22 minutes (Starting base $15.33/hour) = $7.66 FWC: Two officers, each for 3 hours, 47 minutes (Starting base $15.33/hour) = $114.98
7 Vehicles: Five patrol vehicles used from responding agencies located in three different 44.5 cents per mile. Unable to ascertain total mileage incurred from reports provided. Conservative estimate: 30 miles per vehicle x five vehicles = 150 miles x 44.5 cents per mile = $66.75 for vehicle cost Vessels: One FWC 225 horsepower $63.00 per hour x 3.75 hours = $ for vessel cost Total Man-hours: 13 hours, 12 minutes Conservative Estimate Total Cost: $516.77

9 In 2008 there were 653 SARs for all vessels: 2,514 hours were spent on all SARs. There were 58 SARs reported for canoes and kayaks in FWC s CAD System. 2,514 hours divided by 653 Total SARs = hours x 58 NMB SARs = hours spent on SARs for canoes and kayaks in 2008.
10 On 3/30/08 at 3:03 p.m., the FWC Dispatch Center received a call that two individuals had overturned their kayak near the Pasco/Pinellas County line and had not resurfaced. Two bodies were recovered on 3/31/08 at 6:09 p.m. Man-hours: 12 FWC Officers for 115 hours, 4 minutes (Starting base $15.33/hour). Two Pasco County Deputies for 123 hours, 27 minutes (Starting base $17.82/hour). Two Pinellas County Deputies for 7 hours, 47 minutes (Starting base $21.50/hour). Total Man-hour Cost (excluding pilots): $5893.
11 Vessels/Vehicles: No verifiable information provided Airplane: FWC One single 3 hours x $150/hour = $450. Helicopter: PCSO - One 3 hours x $545/hour = $1635. Conservative Estimate Total Cost: $7978.

13 In 2009 there were 632 SARs for all vessels: hours were spent on all SARs. There were 59 SARs reported for canoes and kayaks in FWC s CAD System. 8,573.5 hours divided by 632 Total SARs = hours x 58 NMB SARs = hours spent on SARs for canoes and kayaks in 2009.
14 On 1/25/09 at 2:30 p.m. a member of the USCG reported seeing a man fishing in a yellow kayak near Mayport. An hour later the kayak was observed flipped over and the man was nowhere to be found. Two USCG boats launched from Mayport (hp/type of vessels and number of personnel unknown). Searched late into the evening. USCG helicopter dispatched (number of personnel unknown). Searched late into the evening. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) launched two boats (hp/type of vessels and number of personnel unknown). There was still bait on the fishing pole and alcohol and water in the kayak s cooler. JCSO & USCG searched late into the evening (no end time given). On 1/26/09 at 8:12 a.m. three FWC officers prepare to launch two vessels and join the search.
15 On 1/26/09 at 8:17 a.m. missing subject called from Jacksonville Beach to claim his kayak. Subject advised the USCG he swam ashore when the current became too strong. He did not know he was the subject of a search until he saw it on TV. On 1/26/09 at 8:17 a.m. all participating agencies cancel the search. 17 On 2/20/10, a SAR was conducted in Collier County for missing kayaker who launched from Seminole State Park. A joint operation between Collier County Sheriff s Office and FWC was launched. Collier County responded with two deputies in a standard helicopter. FWC responded with three officers in an airboat. The subject was found in Mud Bay and escorted safely back to his vehicle.
