1 The Auto Touch Independent (ATi) valve is a state-ofthe-art control valve combining a high quality/high rangeability temperature control valve with a dynamically balanced flow regulator in the same space-saving housing. The result is a pressure independent control valve that maintains the desired flow rate irrespective of pressure differential changes across the valve within the differential pressure range shown on page ATi-7. Even the most controllable standard (pressure dependent) temperature control valve will allow a change in flow as the differential pressure in the system changes, which is an everyday occurrence. Any time a chilled water or hot water system is operating at less than design maximum load conditions which is most of the time differential pressures in the system tend to increase, resulting in overflow through the control valves. This overflow condition results in control instability, and higher pumping costs. Balancing valves, either manual or automatic, can only prevent overflow at conditions above design maximum flow. At any flow condition less than design maximum, balancing valves do not fulfill any purpose. The ATi valve provides a cost effective means of controlling hot water and chilled water flow in an accurate and stable manner while minimizing pumping, heating and cooling costs. And by combining the automatic temperature control function and the dynamic balancing function in a single device, installation costs are also reduced. ATi valves are also available with an optional strainer/drain with isolation valve to provide a complete and convenient solution for controlling and maintaining the coil. 2 ATi - Valve Specifications Pressure Independent SoftTouch Ball Valves and Cartridge. A. The modulating control valves shall be pressure independent. B. The pressure independent modulating control valve shall include a Pressure Compensating Cartridge and Actuated Ball Valve in a single valve housing. C. Valve housing shall consist of forged brass, rated at no less than 360 PSI at 250 F. D. Pressure Compensating Cartridge (PCC) 1. PCC shall automatically compensate for pressure changes in valve and shall maintain a constant pressure drop across the flow limiting actuated ball. 2. Valve internal control mechanism includes a diaphragm and full travel linear coil spring. 3. Valves shall include an accessible/ replaceable cartridge. 4. Dual pressure/temperature test valves for verifying the pressure differential across the cartridge and flow limiting ball shall be standard. E. Actuated SoftTouch Ball Valve 1. Valve ball shall consist of chemically plated nickel brass or stainless steel. 2. Actuator stem shall be removable/replaceable without removing valve from line. 3. Manufacturer shall be able to provide ball insert to limit flow to maximum flow rate with ±5% accuracy. 4. Valve shall have EPDM O-rings fitted into the seats to reduce torque necessary to stroke the valve and maintain minimum 100 psi close-off pressure Strainer Drain Valve (SD Valve) The SD Valve shall consist of a 20 mesh stainless steel strainer, a drain, a pressure/temperature test port, and a manual isolation ball valve. The SD Combination Valve body shall be rated at 400 PSI at 250 F; and shall be made of forged brass with brass end connections. The end seals shall be EPDM O-Rings. The strainer shall be a 20 Mesh Stainless Steel type. The ball valve shall be nickel plated brass and shall come fully assembled. The pressure/temperature test port shall be brass with a NORYL seal and rated at 1000 PSI at 350 F. Actuator Actuators shall be analog modulating (0(2)-10VDC or 0(4)-20mA), tri-state (3-point floating), or two-position as indicated in the control sequence. Manufacturer shall be able to provide custom cable lengths as desired for the installation. Manufacturer shall be able to provide a fail-safe (spring return) actuator when required. Actuator shall provide minimum torque required for full valve shut-off position. All actuators shall be CE listed. It is recommended that (2) external P/T ports be installed 2-3 pipe diameters upstream and downstream of the control valve to ensure proper fluid recovery for the most accurate measurement of flow during flow verification and/or commissioning. Actuator rotation moves the horizontal fixed flow line up or down to provide temperature control modulation. When inlet pressure changes, the pressure at the top of the diaphragm also changes. This alters the low pressure area under the diaphragm so that the pressure drop across the ball remains constant.
