7 Data Center Energy Use Optimization Cooling Systems Relax environmental condition requirements ASHRAE recommended range: 68 to 77 F, 40 to 55 % relative humidity ASHRAE allowable range: 59 to 90 F, 20 to 80 % relative humidity Adjust room temperature and humidity settings seasonally Raise temperature of chilled water supply Install variable speed control for fans, chillers and pumps Effectively segregate air streams Maximize free cooling opportunities Install plate and frame heat exchangers Air side economizer Install water cooled equipment and racks For an equal volume water can remove 3600 times more heat than air 7 Green Building Technologies - US Chamber of Commerce March 24, 2008
