1 Welcome to the Parkland Trojan Swim Club November 17 to January Session Welcome to the Parkland Trojan Swim Club! We are committed to providing a team environment that teaches and trains athletes of all ages and at all levels. We will emphasize strength of character, team unity and family participation. We will encourage each individual to reach their fullest potential in and out of the water. Our club is open to K 12 th grade students enrolled in the Parkland School District. All swimmers should bring a swim cap and goggles. Swim masks that cover your child's nose will not be permitted. Girls are required to wear a one piece suits. All age group swimmers should bring a water bottle to practice in order to maintain hydration. Additional required equipment will be listed with the description of each age group below. In this registration packet you will receive and need to complete a registration form and medical release. You will also receive information on our practice schedule and fees for the session. The 1 st winter session will run from November 17 to January 30, 2014, this will allow for no swimming Christmas Week. Our age group program will be lead by Coach Amanda Kender. The Learn to Swim group will be coached by enthusiastic and talented Parkland High School Swimmers under the supervision of our adult coaches. You will need to join AAU for insurance purposes; there is a $16 membership fee. Instructions on how to join AAU are below. Membership is good for one year. Return swimmers do not need re-join. We are not currently a USA Swim Club. If your athlete would like to join USA Swimming sanctioned meets, they will have to join and register with USA Swimming and compete as an unattached athlete or with another USA swim club of their choice. If you have any questions and/or would like to get more involved in the evolution of this new swim club, please us at parklandswim@aol.com. We look forward to a great winter session. 3 Parkland Trojan Swim Club Registration Schedules and Fees Learn To Swim One time a week, Mondays 5:30pm 6:00pm $ for the session Learn to Swim - 9 and up Monday and Thursday 6:05 to 7:45 $ for the session Grey - (ages 9 & under) - Tuesday and Thursday: 6:00 to 7:00 $ for the session Red (ages 7 12) - Monday Tuesday Thursday and Friday 5:15 to 6:30 $ for the session Black (ages 9 and up) Monday Tuesday Thursday and Friday 5:00 to 7:00 $ for the session If you child is learn to swim you may mail in your registration. If you think your child fits into one of our other groups please bring him/her to testing dates. Pool will be open and Coach Amada will be there to test your childs swimming ability. 4 Parkland Trojan Swim Club Consent to Medical Treatment of Minor I hereby authorize any duly authorized doctor, emergency medical technician, hospital, or other medical facility to treat my child/children,, for the purpose of attempting to treat or relieve any injuries received by said minor(s) while he/she was a participant or observer in any meet, practice, activity or travel to or from aforesaid meet, practice or activity of the Parkland Trojan Swim Club or any successor organization. I authorize any licensed physician to perform any procedure which he/she deems advisable in attempting to treat or relieve any injuries or any related unhealthy conditions of said minor that he/she may encounter during any necessary operation. I consent to the administration of anesthesia as deemed advisable by any licensed physician. I realize and appreciate that there is a possibility of complications and unforeseen consequences in any medical treatment, and I assume any such risk on behalf of myself and said minor. 5 AAU Membership Go to the AAU website: Click on Athletes (Individual) Register Now Create an account, sign up for a Youth Membership Swimming Select regular membership($14) Select Club Parkland Trojan Swim Club WW6A8B Checkout Print Proof of Membership and Include in Registration Packet If you are a returning swimmer and already registered with AAU your good. You only need to do this once a year. The year is from August to August.

6 Learn To swim (age 5-8) Monday: Session A - 5:30-6:00 PM Session B - 6:00-6:30 PM Skills Requirements - none The Learn to Swim program will provide a high level of direct instruction time for each swimmer. This will be accomplished by having a swimmer to coach ratio of no more than 3 to 1. Children must be at least fiver years old. Each session will run 1/2 hour. Multiple sessions will run back to back on Monday evenings. Swimmer goals will be safety and comfort in the water and building the skills necessary to swim one length each of freestyle and back stroke unassisted. Swimmer will be assigned to a small group based on ability and age. Learn To swim (ages 9 & up) Monday and Thursday 6:05-7:45 PM Skills Requirements - none This Learn to Swim program will provide a high level of direct instruction time for older, new swimmers. This will be accomplished by having a low swimmer to coach ratio. Lessons will be two days a week for 45 minutes. Swimmer goals will be safety in the water and acquiring the skills necessary to move to Red Group; two lengths of freestyle and one length each of backstroke and breaststroke. Grey (ages 9 & Under) Tuesday and Thursday 6:00-7:00 PM Skills Requirements - comfortably swim one length each of freestyle and backstroke The gray level group will focus on proper technique of the four competitive strokes. Swimmers will be introduced to the basic terminology used in workouts and competitive swimming. Red (ages 7-12) Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 5: 15-6:30 PM Skills Requirements - comfortably swim two lengths of freestyle and one length of backstroke and breaststroke Required equipment - mesh bag, zoomers fins ( or A & H The Red group level will focus on proper stroke, turn and start technique. Swimmers will begin training for aerobic conditioning and learning terminology used in workouts and competitive swimming. Each workout will consist of 15 minutes of dry land training and 1 hour in the water. Attendance of 3 nights per week is suggested in order to develop aerobic conditioning. 7 Skills Requirements: Ability to swim all competitive strokes and possess the interest and motivation to workout at a more demanding level Required equipment - mesh bag, pull buoy, zoomers fins ( or A & H The primary focus will be on proper stroke, turn and start technique. There will be a greater emphasis placed on aerobic conditioning and goals for competitive swimming. Dry land conditioning will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for}'2 hour. Attendance of 3 nights per week is suggested. Trojans Intramurals - look for this program in spring 2015 This will be a clinic style program designed to introduce youth to the sport of swimming. It will also provide an opportunity to "tune-up" for summer swimming. The clinic will be offered for 1 hour, 2 days a week for 6 weeks. The clinic will conclude with a mini meet.
