1 Massey University Wireless Network Client Configuration Mac OS X MAC wireless network Requirements Information Technology Services You must have an active Massey username and password (i.e. you should already be able to log onto the wired Massey network with your username and password), for Staff with your Massey username and password and Students with your student ID number and PIN. You must be within an area of wireless coverage - typically this will be less than 100m from an access point. Refer to the coverage maps at Click on the Airport icon in the Menu Bar 2. Select Open Network Preferences Click on Airport or Wifi. 3 Page 1 of 9

Select the Wireless Network to connect, there are three wireless networks are provided: MUStaff - Staff using Massey-managed equipment (those with an ITXXXXXX number) MUStaffPrivateEquipment - Staff using private or non-massey equipment MUStudents - Student users on any wireless equipment 4 5. 3 6. A box will open asking for a username and password to connect to Wireless Network 7. Enter in your Massey username and password and click OK 7 8. Click on Show Certificate for more information Tick Always Trust tur-aaa1.massey.ac.nz 10. Click on the drop down menu under Trust 11. Check that Always Trust is set and select Continue Page 3 of 9

4 12. The Trust Certificate may open depending on your computer s security settings. In this box enter your computer user username and password and click OK. 12 Note: You may need to repeat steps 6 to 12 several times before your computer successfully connects to the network. Or If a Trust Certificate does not appear you can skip to step Ensure Airport or Wifi status is On 14. The correct wireless network is selected 15. Click on Connect Page 4 of 9

5 16. Enter in your Massey username and password and click OK You should be now connected to the Wireless Network 17 You still need to configure your proxy settings. 18. Select Advanced Page 5 of 9

6 19. Select the Proxies tab 20. Tick box for Automatic Proxy Configuration 21. Enter in the Proxy Configuration File URL: field 22. Select OK (Optional) Open Safari and this Proxy Authentication Box should appear with a name and password. 24. Enter your Massey username and password, then click OK 25. (Optional) Tick the Remember this Network checkbox Instructions for setting up Firefox browser are on page 9. Safari should now connect to the Internet, indicating you are successfully connected to the Massey Wireless network. If the Proxy Authentication box (step 23 above) does not appear when opening Safari. There are known issues that some Mac OS cannot use the configuration if your system fits into this case and the Proxy Authentication box does not appear when opening Safari you will need to configure the Proxies manually. 7 Continue with the following steps to configure the Proxy manually. 1. Click on the Location drop-down menu and select Edit Locations Select the + icon 3. Create a new Location called Massey and click on Done 4. Click on Apply 4 5. Select Advanced Select the Proxies tab 6 7. Tick box for Web Proxy (HTTP). 8. Enter the appropriate proxy for your location in Web Proxy Server: box 7 8 P.Nth tur-cache.massey.ac.nz Wellington wel-cache.massey.ac.nz Auckland alb-cache.massey.ac.nz 9 9. Enter 8080 for the Port 10. Click OK and then Apply 10 Note: By setting up the wireless connection in this way the Internet will not work when you connect to a network without a proxy server e.g. at your home. To connect to the Internet when you get home (or on a network without a proxy server) change the location setting back to Automatic (in Step 1 above). If this is the case each time you wish to use the Massey wireless network you will need to change the location setting back to Massey. Page 7 of 9

9 Firefox If you are unable to browse the internet using Firefox follow these steps. 1. Select Firefox Preferences Select Advanced 3. Select the Network tab 4. Select Settings Select Auto-detect proxy settings for this network 6. Click on OK 5 6 Page 9 of 9
