1 Weston Hills CofE Primary School Pupil Premium Grant Expenditure Statement to Parents Pupil Premium At Weston Hills CofE Primary School we support all our pupils. We do this by providing high quality classroom teaching, supplemented by interventions to support vulnerable learners as and when required. The School Leadership Team and Governing Body monitor the impact of all spending and interventions, including the Pupil Premium. We endeavour to encourage parents and carers to apply for free school meals where pride, stigma or changing circumstances act as barriers to its take-up. Key Facts The Pupil Premium is allocated to children from families who are currently known to be eligible for FSM in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. The Government has decided that eligibility for the Pupil Premium in will be extended to pupils who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last 6 years. The reason for this is that, as a group, children who have been eligible for FSM at any point in time have consistently lower educational attainment than those who have never been eligible for FSM. Number of pupils and Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) received 2011/12 Total number of pupils on roll 143 Total number of pupils eligible for Pupil Premium 16 Grant Amount of Pupil Premium Grant received per 440 pupil Total amount of Pupil Premium Grant received 4,300 Rising to 8,720 in 2012/13 and Rising to 12,600 in 2013/14 Nature of support 2011/12 The Pupil Premium funding received at Weston Hills CofE Primary School has been allocated in a number of ways: Amount Purpose 3,000 To provide small group work with Teaching Assistant support, 1:1 support and support from Head of Pastoral Care 300 To purchase resource materials for use with pupils 500 To provide professional development and training for support staff 500 To pay towards external learning support service
2 Measuring the impact of Pupil Premium Grant spending 2011/12 Foundation Stage Three pupils, two of which received Precision Teaching 1:1. All hit or exceeded their targets in Reading, two in Writing and one in Numeracy. Numeracy will be a focus for continued support. Year 1 The Year 1 pupil was part of Precision Teaching and Phonics Intervention, receiving additional TA support in a small group and 1:1. Targets were exceeded in Reading, Writing and Numeracy. Year 3 There were 4 children in this cohort; one also received support from Head of Pastoral care and outside agencies. Three out of the four on track in reading, only one in writing and all on track in numeracy. Intervention programmes and additional support in class has enabled these children to close the gap in their learning. Year 4 The one pupil received Precision Teaching daily, part of numerous Intervention Programmes including Clued Up Spellings with adult support. This child made excellent progress exceeding targets set in reading and writing and on track in numeracy to make two or more levels progress by the end of KS2. Year 5 One pupil who received support from our Head of Pastoral Care enabled the child to attend school and make the required progress to ensure he was on track by the end of the Year to make two or more levels progress by the end of KS2. Year 6 One pupil received Precision Teaching daily throughout the year with 1:1 support. Numeracy overcoming barriers (4 times a week). Intervention in a small group with adult support. Literacy 1:1 support (three x half hour sessions per week) boostering and consolidating learning. Part of a focused reading comprehension group half hour per week with adult support. KS1 KS2 Levels Progress Reading Level 1 Level 4B 3 Writing Level 1 Level 4C 3 Numeracy Level 2C Level 4A 2 levels + 2 sub levels Exceeded national expectations of 2 levels. Another Year 6 pupil through precision teaching and small group support for both literacy and numeracy made two levels progress to meet national expectations.
3 Nature of support Sept 2012-July 2013 The Pupil Premium Funding of 8,720 received at Weston Hills CofE Primary School has been allocated in a number of ways: Amount Purpose Impact 6,000 To provide small group work opportunities with Teaching Assistant support, 1:1 support and support from Head of Pastoral Care Pupil Premium children have all made progress in Reading, Writing & Numeracy. Half are well on track to make two levels progress. Those children not yet on track will continue to receive intervention 500 To purchase resources and screening materials for use with pupils 1,000 To pay towards external learning support services 720 To facilitate subsidised places for FSM pupils in Breakfast Club 500 To provide professional development and training for teachers and support to narrow the gap. We now use a dyslexia screening programme on children that show signs of dyslexia. This then identifies children for further assessments for STAPS. This allows the children to get the support and resources they need. Resources, e.g. Timers, ICT Programme, have been purchased to help support learning. Using STAPS enables early identification of any learning issues and identifies the additional support needed. 11 out of 16 pupils regularly use breakfast club before the start of the school day. Dyslexia Training sessions for all staff have enabled us to identify children early and to ensure teaching and learning activities are appropriate. All our children with Dyslexia have made progress throughout the year. The Pupil Premium has been targeted to ensure FSM children receive the additional support they may need to ensure they achieve or exceed National Expectations at the end of each Key Stage. Measuring the impact of Pupil Premium Grant spending 2012/13 Foundation Stage Two pupils, one of which was exceeding expected levels in all areas at the end of Foundation Stage. The other child was emerging in all areas, but started at a lower entry point months. This child received the Wellcom intervention programme and made good progress and has made very good progress in Year 1.
4 Year 1 Three year 1 pupils were all part of TELL Tier phonics intervention programme, two exceeded the expected level in the phonics screening and one child missed out by 1 mark. One child was part of Our Way of Learning programme which enabled the child to make good progress in Reading and Writing. Two pupils received daily precision teaching for reading and numeracy and this enabled them to progress well making the expected points progress or exceeding in Reading, Writing and Numeracy. Year 2 The Year 2 pupil was part of a small booster group for Reading and Mathematics and part of a focussed group on class receiving adult support for writing. This impacted on confidence and outstanding progress and the child was a L2A in Reading, Writing and Mathematics at the end of KS1. Year 4 Five out of the six Year 4 pupils made good or better progress in most areas. Some were part of small intervention/booster groups and received additional adult support in class. 1 pupil received precision teaching and additional adult support but is not at the expected level. This pupil joined us with higher KS1 results then the assessments we carried out on entry. Progress was made throughout the year. Year 5 Two pupils in Year 5, one has made excellent progress and has exceeded their target, the other receives 1:1 support daily and is on track in Reading and Writing, but not in Mathematics. This child continues to be part of a booster group receiving additional support. Year 6 If the two pupils, one exceeded their target in Reading and Mathematics making three levels progress at the end of KS2, and two levels progress in Writing. The other child made two levels progress in their Writing and Mathematics but was disapplied from Reading due to additional needs. Both children received precision teaching daily and were part of small booster groups. National expectation is 12 points progress in KS2, our combined scores were Reading 11.5, Writing 13 and Mathematics 13.5.
