1 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GRADUATE STUDIES IN THE AREAS OF SCIENCE AND ENGENEERING IN MEXICO Cooperation for development of scientific and technological capabilities in the Americas The Organization of American States (OAS), The National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACYT) and The Mexican Agency for International Development and Cooperation (AMEXCID), with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico under the Partnership Program for Education and Training are proud to present: CONACYT- OAS- AMEXCID 2014 Announcement Scholarships for graduate programs are offered on- site in Mexico in the areas of engineering and science to citizens of Member States of the OAS, with the exception of Mexico. 1 Scholarship benefits: FROM CONACYT ü Financial monthly stipend towards living expenses and basic medical insurance while in Mexico. ü Possibility to include a study abroad component as part of the scholar s program in institutions outside Mexico, receiving a complementary stipend for living expenses, health insurance and transportation, including the scholar s country of origin in the OAS Member State. Who can participate? FROM OAS- AMEXCID ü A one- time grant of $1,200 USD. ü Possibility of obtaining total or partial tuition fees discounts in Mexican universities that are part of the OAS Consortium of Universities, which offer the study programs participating in this announcement. 2 that have been accepted to the on- site graduate program of Mexican Institution registered at the Programa Nacional de Posgrados de Calidad (PNPC) in the areas of study included in this Announcement. Please know that the language of instruction for most of the programs is in Spanish. Application process Step 1 Enrollment in the graduate program (PNPC) of the Mexican Higher Education Institution and Research Center (IES- CII) To apply for the CONACYT- OAS- AMEXCID Scholarship, it is essential to have been first admitted to any of the on- site graduate programs in the field of engineering and science that are part of the Programa Nacional de Posgrados de Calidad (PNPC). Applicants need to carefully review the PNPC to indetify the program of interest and make sure that its part of the CONACYT- OEA- AMEXCID 2014 Scholarship Annoucement. It is the responsibility of future applicants to contact the (IES- CII) that offers the graduate program of their interest to find out the requirements and deadlines for for admission. Before doing so, we recommend that applicants read the full description of the program to ensure that the study area corresponds to their professional and academic expectations, and that the area of study is one of the following: ü Biology and Chemistry ü Math and Earth Sciences ü Physics (master programs only) ü Engineering ü Biotechnology. The applicants submit all documentation and follow the admission process required by the (IES- CII). Once the future student is admitted to the program, the (IES- CII) program coordinator issues an admission letter.

3 STEP 2 Trip to México The applicant then processes the temporary student visa and travels to Mexico for the enrollment in the (IES- CII) and starts the program of study. If it is required, the applicant may obtain support from the IES and CONACYT in order to obtain the temporary student visa. STEP 3 CONACYT Aplication process For the scholarship announcement of CONACYT- OAS- AMEXCID, the Coordinator of the program will nominate the candidate to recieve the benefits of CONACYT as part of the CONACYT National Scholarship that all students are elegible once they are admitted to the program. Students must meet all requirements and are responsible for delivering all the documentation required to the academic program coordinator. Subsequently, the (IES- CII) program coordinator will validate the scholaship application directly with CONACYT. CONACYT or the OAS will not receive applications directly from students. The scholarship application must follow the CONACYT Calendar Calendario de Recepción de Solicitudes de la Convocatoria de Becas CONACYT Nacionales 2014 and the time- line described in the CONACYT- OEA- AMEXCID- scholarship annoucement. The CONACYT will validate the applications and assigns the CONACYT benefits to the student. (monthly allowence subsistance and medical insurance) The scholar must comply with the student responsabilities stated in section 11 of the CONACYT- OAS- AMEXCID scholarsgip annoucement. STEP 4 Application to the OAS and CONACYT During the last week of May 2014, CONACYT will send the OAS and AMEXCID the list of students from the OAS Member States that have received the CONACYT benefits for the one- time grant allocation process conducted by the OAS and AMEXCID. STEP 5 Selection of CONACYT- OEA- AMEXCID Scholars The selection process for allocating the one- time grant will be conducted by a specialized committee constituted for this purpose by the OAS. Among the aspects taking into consideration for the selection of scholars are the following:

4 ü Academic and profesional backgorund. ü Impact potential upon return to the OAS Member State. ü The geographic distribution of candidates and the most important development priorities of the OAS Member States. ü Gender diversity. After the evaluation, the selected scholars will recive the benefits from OAS and the AMEXCID indicated in section 7 of the CONACYT- OAS- AMEXCID scholarship annoucement. The OAS, the CONACYT and the AMEXCID will announce the results in their webpage after June The institutions will contact the beneficiary students directly to process the one- time grant. 5 STEP BY STEP DIAGRAM OF THE PROCESS OF APPLICATION FOR THE CONACYT- OEA- AMEXCID SCHOLARSHIP Applicant applies directly to the University or Research Institution in Mexico (IES- CII) for a program registered PNPC The (IES- CII) evaluates and accepts candidate to the program The student process the temporary student visa and travels to Mexico to start classes Once in Mexico, the (IES- CII) requests the student documentation to process the CONACYT grant The (IES- CII) sends applications directly to CONACYT CONACYT receives the applications and validates those that have all the requirements. All the validated students will receive the benefits from CONACYT ü Financial monthly stipend towards living expenses and basic medical insurance while in Mexico. ü Possibility to include a study abroad component as part of the scholar s program in institutions outside Mexico, receiving a complementary stipend for living expenses, health insurance and transportation including the scholar s country of origin in the OAS Member State. CONACYT sends to the OAS and AMEXCID all the validated applications of the citizens of the OAS Member States OEA y AMEXCID review the applications The students selected will receive the benefits from the OAS and the AMEXCID ü ü A one- time grant of $1,200 USD.
