1 Admission Criteria for the RN-to-BSN Program University of Pikeville Division of Nursing RN-to-BSN Program Admission and Curriculum Information 1. Must submit an application for admission to the University of Pikeville and be fully admitted to the University by start of Fall classes. 2. Must submit a separate application to the Division of Nursing by the deadline date of May 1, Must submit official transcripts of high school and college work and ACT scores. 4. Must be a graduate of a state-approved pre-licensure program for registered nursing. 5. Must have a minimum 2.50 cumulative college grade point average (GPA). 6. Must have earned a minimum grade of C in all courses taken to satisfy the nursing major at the associate degree level. 7. Must have completed at least 36 credit hours of general education requirements 8. Must have validation of an active and unrestricted RN license. Transfer Credit 1. Non-nursing credit is evaluated and transferred according to the policies of the University 2. Nursing Credit from an A.D.N. program at an institution other than the University of Pikeville: Upon completion of 14 credits with at least a C grade in the University s RN-BSN program, the student may receive up to 40 hours of NUR transfer elective credit toward the required 120 credit hours for graduation. These credits will be determined by evaluating lower division courses completed at the previous institution. If the student leaves the RN-BSN program prior to graduation, NUR elective credits are not transferable to another institution or another major at the University.
2 Requirements for Baccalaureate Degree 1. A minimum of 120 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher. Partial or complete fulfillment of the 120 semester hours can be earned by successful completion of 52 semester hours of University of Pikeville s core requirements, 27 hours of upper-division NUR courses, 3 hours of a required Bioethics course (REL 370), and up to 40 hours of NUR elective credit from an associate degree nursing program. Elective credit may be needed to fulfill the remainder of the 120 hours required by the University of Pikeville. 2. A minimum of 39 semester hours in 300 or 400 level courses Thirty of the 39 hours are RN-BSN required courses. Thus, a student must earn an additional nine (9) semester hours at the 300 or 400 level. One suggestion to fulfill the remaining 9 hours at the 300/400 level is to take remaining general education courses, where possible, at 300/400 level. For example, if you still need courses for the Humanities requirement, take an ART, COM, or ENG at the 300/400 level. Otherwise, you will need to find up to 9 hours of electives at 300/400 level. 3. Successful completion of the general studies core curriculum of 52 semester hours for the baccalaureate degree See the attached list of required general studies core curriculum. These general education courses can be taken at any institution (on site or online) as long as the transfer equivalency matches the name of the course at the University of Pikeville. If unsure about what will transfer, check with the RN-BSN Coordinator, Division Chair, or University Registrar. For a list of KCTCS equivalent courses --- go to University of Pikeville s webpage click Registrar s Office click KCTCS transfer. 4. Thirty of the last 36 hours prior to graduation must be courses taken at University of Pikeville. The RN-BSN courses equal 30 credit hours. Thus, once you start in the RN-BSN program, you can take no more than two courses (6 credits) at a college/university other than Pikeville.
