Lantronix UDS-1100 Install Guide General The Lantronix UDS-1100 can be used with the CS Technologies Network Access Control System to connect controllers over an Ethernet connection across a facility or around the world. This is achieved by using a method called serial tunneling. Serial tunneling extends the functionality of your PC COM ports by encapsulating serial data into packets and transporting it over Ethernet Using the revolutionary Com Port Redirector software you create virtual COM ports, mapped to remote device servers (UDS-1100 s) on the network. The UDS-1100 works on any TCP/IP based network that supports Ethernet. The UDS-1100 has a 10BaseT, half duplex Ethernet port. Features Replace serial port connection with TCP/IP connection. 2 Connecting the UDS-1100 to the Controllers Purple Aqua PC running Advent connects to the Ethernet using Lantronix Redirector software. Up to 9 lantronic locations can be installed on each PC. e.g Brown with Line Red With Line e.g Slave Controller Slave Controller The UDS-1100 should be located as close as possible to the CS Network controller. (Ideally inside the box of the first controller). The UDS-1100 s female DB25 connector provides an RS-485 serial port interface to connect to the CS Network controllers. You can use the included Power Pak to power the Lantronix UDS-1100 or you can connect power through the DB25 pin connection. 3 Setting the IP address of the UDS-1100 Connect the UDS-1100 to your network and power it on. Install the Lantronics DeviceInstaller Software The UDS-1100 should be automatically detected. Highlight the UDS-1100, press the Assign IP button and then follow the on screen instructions. Set the IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway. Set the IP Address (Alternative method using a serial cable) 1. Connect the UDS-1100 to the serial port of the PC. Run Hyper terminal (9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit). 2. To enter Setup (configuration) Mode, cycle the UDS-1100 s power (power off and back on). After power-up the self-test begins and the red Diagnostic LED starts blinking. You have one second to enter three lowercase "x" characters. Now follow the on screen prompts. 3. Select 0 (Server Configuration) and follow the prompts until you get to IP address. Enter the new IP address and gateway IP (if required) 4. Select 1 (Port configuration) and set the following I/F mode = 4F, 5. Select 9 to save the configuration and exit Setup Mode. The UDS-1100 performs a power reset. Configuring the UDS-1100 using your web browser: Enter the IP address of the Lantronix into a web browser The default username and password can be left blank. Set the following options shown below. Protocol: 2-wire Local Port: Click apply settings after all changes have been made. 4 Install and Configure Lantronix Com Port Redirection Software Install Lantronix CPR Software version 4.xx Select Com Port and select Add and Remove You must now tick/select one COM port for each Lantronix UDS For each Com you must configure as shown below 1. Tick No Net Close 2. Set the connection timeout to 30 seconds 3. Tick TCP Keep Alive 4. Add the IP address of the Lantronix device 5. 5 Advent Software Configuration If only one Network (Lantronix) connection is required, simply select the same Com Port as the one you created in the redirector software. (Note in Advent you can only select Com Ports 1 to 9). If more than one Network Lantronix connection is used: You require Advent v413 Go to Technician/Site 1. Untick Single Location 2. Tick Multiple com ports. Then you need Add the COM ports for each Lantronix device. Add each COM port also as a location When adding controllers simply select the location it is connected too.
