2 2 PEDAGOGICAL SUPPORT Pedagogical Support Book an appointment with your Disability Coordinator to discuss your application for support. Check the period of validity of your decision. Make a new application for support in time. IN CONTACT WITH YOUR STUDY COUNSELLOR Make a summary of the things you want your teacher to know about you. Book an appointment with your Study Counsellor at your department to discuss your decision. Decide together with your Study Counsellor how you want information about your disability to be spread within the department. Book follow-ups with your Study Counsellor or teacher, if necessary. Check with your Study Counsellor how much time he/she needs to arrange your examination. Contact your Study Counsellor at least two weeks before the examination or earlier if he/she so wishes. 3 PEDAGOGICAL SUPPORT 3 A Note-taker WHAT TO DO? Find someone in your group who is good at taking notes and ask if he/she wants to be your note-taker. Inform that person that he/she will get paid by the Division for Student Affairs and that you have to fill in a form in order to receive money. Copy your notes as soon as possible after your lecture. Find a suitable note-taker. Note the hours (date and time) your note-taker works for you and hand in this document to the Division for Student Affairs. (See address on the back of this brochure) Attach a timetable to this document indicating the lectures in question.

4 4 PEDAGOGICAL SUPPORT Examination Arrangements WHAT TO DO? Your decision tells you whether you have been granted examination arrangements or not. Discuss your arrangements with your Study Counsellor. You must remember that special requirements concerning examination arrangements have to be approved by your examiner. You must contact your Study Counsellor at the beginning of the term to find out how many weeks in advance you have to inform him/her if you need an examination arrangement. Every time you want an examination arrangement you have to inform your Study Counsellor within the time agreed upon. If you should fall ill och be prevented from coming to your examination you must inform your Study Counsellor as soon as possible. 5 PEDAGOGICAL SUPPORT 5 Study Skills Tuition You can be granted study skills tuition by our Special Needs Teacher. Our Special Needs Teacher will help you improve your study skills. At first an evaluation of your study skills will be carried out and then measures will be presented which can improve your reading techiques, note-taking techniques or your writing strategies. Book an appointment with your Special Needs Teacher. Be on time and be sure to have prepared the things you have agreed upon. Your Special Needs Teacher is:

6 6 PEDAGOGICAL SUPPORT Talking Books At your course library you can borrow recorded literature. Book an appointment with your Contact Librarian for further information. You can download recorded literature straight to your computer. Your Contact Librarian will help you get started. All your books may not have been recorded. Your Contact Librarian will then help you to order the books. It takes about eight weeks to get a book recorded. Book an appointment with your Contact Librarian to check if your course literature has been recorded. Ask your Contact Librarian to show you how to download your course literature to your computer. If you need recorded literature be sure to order the books in advance. Ask for the list of literature for the next few courses and check if the books have been recorded or not. 7 PEDAGOGICAL SUPPORT 7 A Student Tutor WHAT TO DO? Your Study Counsellor will help you find a student tutor. Your decision tells you how many tutoring hours you have been granted (normally 20 hours, which means an hour per week) You and your tutor must make a plan for the tutoring hours. At your first meeting it is important to discuss how you want to work and communicate with each other. The student tutor agreement must be signed by both of you and sent to your Disability Coordinator. To get as much as possible out of the time you spend with your student tutor you must be well prepared. Inform your student tutor that he/she will also be paid for the five hours of preparation per term. Keep track of the hours you spend together. Note the date and time for your meetings. Attach this document to the invoice which should be sent to the Division for Student Affairs once or twice per term. Send the student tutor agreement to your Disability Coordinator as well as an evaluation of your work at the end of the term.
