4 Definitions Genital HPV Infections- are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), a group of more than 100 kinds of viruses. Transmitted in sexual contact. Chlamydia- is a bacterial infection that affects the reproductive organs of both males and females. Chlamydia is still the most common STD among teens.

5 Definitions Gonorrhea- is a bacterial STD that is usually affects mucous membranes. The CDC estimates that more than 700,000 Americans are infected each year. Trichomoniasis- is caused by a microscopic protozoan that results in affections of the vagina, urethra, and bladder. About 7.4 million new cases occur every year in the United States. This is a parasite.

6 Definitions Genital Herpes- is caused by the herpes simplex virus it causes Genital sores. 45 million people of ages 12 and older have contracted Genital herpes. Syphilis- an infection caused by a small bacterium called a spirochete, attacks many parts of the body. Syphilis can damage internal organs, brain dementia, and may cause death, if untreated. Crabs- this is a parasite that sucks blood off of your pubic hair.

9 lesson 2 preventing and treating STDs About 9 million Americans teens contract STDs annually. Some may be cured with medicine. Others cant be cured like Herpes and HPV. The only method that is 100% successful in preventing the spred is Abstinence.

13 Lesson 3 HIV/AIDs HIV means (Human Immunodeficiency virus) AIDs means (Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) AIDs has become one of the most deadly diseases in human history killing more than 25 million people. 500,000 of those deaths are Americans. currently 40 million people worldwide have HIV/AIDs. Approximately 12 million people who have HIV/AIDs are 15 to 24.

Symptomatic Stage Patients experience flu like symptoms,headache,fever,body aches, swollen glands,diminished appetite,weight loss,and skin rashes. AIDs Stage HElper T cells drop to less than 200, or one or more AIDs opportunistic illnesses are present. System

This is why it is good to get tested every year.

17 Types of Laboratory HIV Tests Doctors collect blood to see how many white blood cells you have. The EIA Test they look for HIV antibodies. Western Blot Test only done if the EIA test is positive and they must double check. The RNA and CD4 which just further look into it and positively confirm that you have the virus.

18 Benefits of Early Diagnosis There are several benefits to early testing such as. Begin proper medical care early to slow virus. Avoid behaviors that could spread HIV to others. Gain peace of mind when the results are negative. Since the early 1980s drugs have been developed to slow growth. To slow the growth people take a combination of drugs known as (HAART).
