INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMS
Student Exchange Program At present, UADE has agreements with over 30 universities from different continents for the exchange of students and teachers. These agreements include a dual degree program in the field of business administration as well as a dual degree for the MBA with Sup de Co Montpellier (France). Free moving students can make individual requests either by letter or forwarded to the International Relations Office if they wish to attend a semester at UADE. Applicants should follow the same application process and submit the same information and forms as students coming from partner universities. In addition to exchange students who usually come to UADE for a term, throughout the year, we receive groups of students from different universities who pay short visits that combine lectures and visits to companies. 5 Visa Information for International Students Obtaining a student visa for Argentina can be a time-consuming and expensive process. We strongly suggest that you verify the visa requirements with the Argentine Consulate nearest to your location while preparing your application materials. Besides other required documents, an official letter of sponsorship will be requested. Upon acceptance as a non-degree seeking exchange student, the International Relations Office will issue a letter confirming the semester during which the student will be able to attend lessons at UADE. Subsequently, the Office will send it to the student s home university. In general, it will arrive in late November for those students coming to UADE in March, and in early May for those coming in August. Course Registration 1. Once you have been nominated to study at UADE, the International Relations Office will send you a course description list via . You may use these to complete the Course Preference Form. 2. Please confirm with the International Relations Office that the courses of your interest will be offered during the semester in which you intend to visit the country. 3. Include the Course Preference Form with your application materials in order to pre-register for classes. Formal registration will be held during the first week of classes, at which time you may modify your choices. 4. UADE will make every possible effort to accommodate your request for courses, but cannot guarantee vacancies in specific courses. If necessary, priority will be given based on your specific field of study at your home university (i.e., students from business schools will have priority in business classes). 5. Upon arrival, students must report to the International Relations Office, with whose aid they will be able to confirm their course choices. 6. UADE will provide a photo ID card that will allow foreign students to use the Library, access work stations, and participate in all university extracurricular activities. 7. At the end of the semester, transcripts will be sent directly to home universities. 5

Students Experiences at UADE Interviews with exchange students by Maija Kestilä (Finland) and Tommi Harju (Finland) Name: Serena Alboni Age: 21 Nationality: Italian University: Luigi Bocconi Name: Efren Canzález Age: 21 Nationality: Mexican University: Universidad Autónoma Del Pueblo Name: Jussi Maatta Age: 26 Nationality: Finnish University: Helsinki School of Business Name: Hanne Poulsen Age: 25 Nationality: Danish University: Copenhagen Business School How would you describe your exchange experience in Argentina during these months? Serena: So far, great! I was expecting a lot from this exchange, but I could never have imagined Argentina to be so awesome. Jussi: This has been a great experience for me. To be an exchange student in a place like Argentina has been quite enriching. Argentine people are very open and warm and you can easily make friends with them. Of course I have also made many friends with other exchange students. Hanne: Very good, so far. I ve learned a lot from living in Buenos Aires, being a city with so many contrasts. Efren: The best in my life: the people, the places, everything... I will never forget these months, and now I have new friends from other countries as well (e.g., Italians, Finnish, Germans, etc.). What is your impression about Argentina and Buenos Aires? 9
Jussi: Argentina is a big country with many different places. If you have time, there are many interesting places to travel to. For me the best about Buenos Aires has been the nightlife. There are many fascinating places to go to every night. But, as I said before, maybe the best thing in Argentina and Buenos Aires is the people. Serena: Buenos Aires has many appealing entertainments. My favorite is the nightlife that really offers a wide range of activities: from tango to techno, from jazz to rock concerts. On the other hand, with all its natural beauties, Argentina is the perfect place to travel around: full of places I will never see back home (Italy). Efren: It s amazing how people can t fall in love with this city and country. There are always those who would criticize Argentina. The culture is almost the same as in my country, but BA is a terrific city! Hanne: Buenos Aires and Argentina are very interesting places. The more I get to know the place and the people, the more I realize how little I know about this country. People are very welcoming and friendly; the country and the city are beautiful and there s so much to explore. Would you recommend the other students at your university to come to Buenos Aires? If yes, why? Serena: I would most strongly recommend coming here to all the students that have the opportunity to. Because of the place and its people and also because of the lifestyle that we can afford especially due to the exchange rate (thanks to the economy!) Jussi: Definitely!!! I can t imagine a better place for an exchange program. I will recommend it; in fact, I have already recommended this place to other students in my university. Studies at UADE are high standard. There are also a lot of students who already work, which gives you an opportunity to get contacts in local companies. Of course, studying is not the only thing that you should do during your exchange. At least for me the nightlife and partying are also very important and this city is the perfect place for that. Efren: Yes, because if they come here, they can discover this new world, the people... It s so different. 10
Did you experience any difficulties during your stay? Jussi: The only difficulty I had, at first, during my stay was the language. I didn t speak Spanish very well when I came here and it was a little bit difficult to understand everything during the classes. There are many teachers at UADE who don t speak any English. But, on the other hand, it pushes you to study Spanish more effectively which is, at least for me, the most important thing about learning here. Serena: Up to now the only difficulty I have had is to really concentrate on my studies I m really trying hard not to miss anything life-wise and social-wise here! Efren: Not any difficulties. Hanne: The most difficult thing has been to adjust to this very different way of learning. It has been a bit difficult not to know anything about the courses beforehand so that, coming totally unprepared for class, I felt completely at a loss besides, the language did not make things any easier. Why did you choose to come to Argentina for exchange? Jussi: I chose Argentina as my exchange place because I had never been to Latin America before and also because I want to learn to speak Spanish. After three months, I can honestly say that this has been one of the best choices in my life. Hanne: I chose to come here on exchange because I'm really interested in Latin America. I had been here before for a very short time and liked the city so much that I had to come back. I think that BA is one of the best places in South America to study and live. As Argentina has a prevailing middle class, more than in most other Latin American countries, it also makes you feel much more comfortable and you find it easier to make acquaintances. 11
