Did you know that in our country, compared to 50 years ago, there are 20,000 fewer priests and 129,000 fewer religious sisters? At the same time, the Catholic population has continued to grow steadily. Many factors have contributed to the decline: growing secularism, a lengthened period of adolescence, attitudes about celibacy, etc. During Vocation Awareness week, please pray that young people in today s society will hear and respond to God s call. And do your part to encourage them to consider the priesthood and religious life. Join the Invisible Monastery Pledge to pray for vocations at the international web site, It was inspired by a 2012 document from the Congregation for Clergy urging Catholics to organize an invisible monastery in which many persons, day and night, are committed to continuous prayer for priestly vocations. One Vocation Leads to Another Let us not forget that Christian marriage is a vocation to holiness in the full sense of the word, and that the example of holy parents is the first condition favorable for the flowering of priestly and religious vocations. PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS It is at this time of year, that we are asked to think about our stewardship of all those gifts that God has placed in our trust, not just how we are taking care of those gifts, but how we are sharing those gifts, including with our parish. This future focus on Parish Stewardship asks us to consider are we returning to the Lord through the Lord s instrument on earth for the building up of the kingdom, the church, a proper portion of the gifts God has placed in our care. 4 NOVEMBER 2, 2014 OUR LADY OF FATIMA SCHOOL NEWS Our accreditation process is nearly complete. The Visiting Committee arrives Wednesday for their three-day review of our school and all of the data and analysis faculty and staff have compiled for them. It is a lengthy, rigorous process, but such a wonderful way for us to pause and truly assess our academics and Catholic mission. We look forward to sharing the results of the final accreditation report with you. Our students will be noting Halloween in school-appropriate costumes. We wish everyone a safe and happy evening on Friday!
