1 Architect & President - Howorth & Associates Architects PROFESSIONAL PROFILE: Tom Howorth became an architect in 1985, and has led firms as a partner or principal since This career was prefaced with summers on construction sites during high school and college, and after to a stint in a cabinetmaker s shop that led to an architect s office and back to school for a second degree. Thirty-some years later, he still enjoys a career that combines science, art, business, technology and the humanities to make buildings and places that resonate with the communities they serve. His anthropological approach to architecture respects the past but aspires to the future in order to enrich and enliven the present. Howorth s life and career embrace lifelong curiosity, learning, and teaching. He earned his masters degree as a member of the inaugural cohort of Virginia Tech s Executive Masters in Natural Resources (XMNR).
