1 2015 LAST CHANCE MEET NOVEMBER 21-22, 2015 UNIVERSIADE PAVILION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ATHLETICS ALBERTA AND IN CONJUNCTION WITH RBC "Sports Day in Canada" Location and Facility: Universiade Pavilion, University of Alberta, 87 Avenue and 114 Street, Edmonton. Seven lane, 200m flat track. Twelve lane 60m straight with 30m run off. Mondo surface for all running and jumping events. Fully automatic timing using the Finish Lynx system. Cement shot put and weight throw circles located at the east side of the inner field. The west wall circle is a temporary wooden circle. Change rooms are available. Meet Hotel: The Radisson Hotel Edmonton South welcomes Last Chance participants, and has reserved a block of rooms for teams and families. (The Radisson will increase the size of the reservation as the block is consumed.) The nightly rate includes full breakfast and free parking at the hotel. For more information (or to make a reservation), please see "Sports Day in Canada": "Try It" events 40m, 50m, 60m, Shot Put, Medicine Ball Throw, Long Jump, Standing Long Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault will be held on November 21, and are in addition to the "normal" track and field events held at the annual Last Chance Meet. Some "Try It" events may occur on the concourse level. For more information about RBC "Sports Day in Canada", please see or contact Athletics Alberta's Brad Babiak. To register for participation in the "Try It" events, please see last chance track and field meet. General Rules: 1. All athletes should have a valid 2015 or 2016 Athletics Alberta registration (or attend an Athletics Alberta member school) prior to the meet entry deadline or be prepared to produce proof of registration with their provincial athletic federation. All entries will be checked to ensure registration. Athletes not registered with Athletics Alberta or their provincial federation will be required to purchase "Day of the Meet" registration for each day they compete. ("Day of the Meet" registration is five dollars per day.) 2. Athletes must compete in their own age class, unless the desired event is not offered in their age class, in which case they will be allowed to compete "up" in an age group. 3. EMOC has a zero tolerance policy in respect to the behaviour that constitutes harassment, where harassment is defined as comment or conduct directed towards an individual or group, which is offensive, abusive, racist, sexist, degrading, or malicious. Enforcement of this policy is at the discretion of the Meet Director, Meet Manager, and/or the President of EMOC. 4. Start time is 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, End time is anticipated to be 5:00 p.m. For Updated :40 Page 1
2 Sunday, November 22, start time is 9:00 a.m., with end time expected to be mid afternoon. 5. Spikes are to be no longer than 6 mm in length. Only smooth Christmas tree or pyramid type spikes will be allowed. Athletes will be required to remove any spikes that do not conform to this rule. No pin, needle, or other elements will be permitted. 6. Starting blocks will not be used for Tyke, Pee Wee, nor Bantam events. Starting blocks are mandatory for all Midget, Youth, and Open age groups (60m 400m and 4x200m), optional for Masters. Medical exemptions (i.e.: to allow the athlete to not use starting blocks) require prior approval from Athletics Alberta's Technical Manager. 7. All athletes must wear proper club or school uniforms. 8. Competition numbers must be worn on the front right for all Tyke, Pee Wee, and Bantam track events. For all other age groups, competition numbers must be worn on the back for sprint events (60m to 300 m) and must be worn on front for all other track events. Athletes in long jump event must wear number on front; other field event athletes may wear numbers either on front or on back. 9. Hip numbers (distance events) must be clearly visible on the athlete's right side. (Please tuck in your shirt/uniform.) 10. Athletes competing in heats who do not intend to compete in the final (even if they win their heat) must inform the Results Desk before the heats. Such athletes will be marked as exhibition, thus allowing someone else to advance to the final. Otherwise, IAAF Rule will be applied (i.e.: the athlete may be disqualified from participating in the rest of the meet). 11. All track event athletes (including Multiple Event track athletes) are requested to check in at the Check In Desk at least 25 minutes prior to the scheduled event start time. When checking in, please have your number on and your spikes available to verify spike length. 12. All track event athletes (including Multiple Event track athletes) are required to be in (and remain in) the Call Room/Warm Up area 15 minutes prior to the scheduled event start time. A starter s assistant will escort the athletes to the start line prior to the event starting. 13. Field event athletes (including Multiple Event field athletes) will check in at the event competition area and are requested to be at the competition area 20 minutes before the scheduled time of the event. 14. Please see the "Modified rules for field events" section below for modified rules for Pee Wee, Bantam, and Tyke field events. 15. Please see the notes for the "Tentative Schedule" regarding possibility of events being moved to Sunday to accommodate facility and time constraints, definition and specifications for "Open", starting height for Midget High Jump, minimum starting height and competition split for Pole Vault, and A/B finals instead of quarter finals and semi finals. 16. Scratches or changes prior to competition will be processed at the Registration Desk on the concourse level. Scratches may result in manual lane reassignment and/or heat combining at the discretion of the Call Room and/or Starter's Assistant, and/or re seeding of the event at the discretion of the Track Referee. 17. Medals will be awarded in all events where there is a minimum of 3 competitors in the age class. Ribbons will be awarded to competitors in events where there are fewer than 3 competitors in an age class. In addition, ribbons will be awarded to the top ten finishers in individual events within the multiple events. 18. PLEASE NOTE: There are serious safety concerns with coaches/spectators being present in non designated in field areas and on the track. We have set up clearly identified designated seating areas for coaches only (adjacent to the field competition venues) and we would ask that coaches confine themselves to those areas while an event is taking place. Spectators are not to be present on the in field of the track or the south wall of the Pavilion. We ask for your co operation on this matter for the safety of all. Please Note: 1. 3 2. Long jump centre pit is located on the south centre of the pavilion. Long jump wall pit is located along the south wall of the Pavilion. 3. Shot put centre circle is located on the east centre of the pavilion. Shot put west circle is located along the doors at the west end of the Pavilion (under the basketball nets). 4. Results will be posted on the concourse level near the Results Desk. Prentice Cup Team Championship 2015 A trophy will be presented to the EMOC member club* with the top performance at this year s Last Chance Meet. Results will be scored for all Pee Wee, Bantam, Midget, and Youth events. The club with the highest over all score, based on a factor including club membership, will win the Cup. Entries and Entry Fees: NOTE: There will be a $2/entry surcharge for clubs who submit entries in excess of ten who do not submit by Hy Tek file. Entry fees are $20.00 for the first event, $15.00 for each additional event, and $30.00 per Multiple Event entered. For relay events, entry fee is $30.00 per relay team. Fees are to be made payable to Edmonton Meet Organizing Committee. Fees are due at the meet, to be presented at the Registration Desk on the concourse level of the Universiade Pavilion at the time the entry package is picked up. Entries are to be sent by Hy Tek to Valerie Kemp at emoctrack@gmail.com. (Please see the note below regarding individual entries.) All entries must be received by Friday, November 13, Club/Team Entries: To send entries by Hy Tek, download Hy Tek Track and Field Team Manager Lite at tekltd.com/downloads.html and the Hy Tek Event File from AA website at Notes on using Team Manager are available from Club/Team entries not sent by Hy Tek may be accepted with an additional surcharge. Individual Entries: Individuals not having a club affiliation may use the Race Roster page ( last chance track and field meet ) to enter. Entries recorded via the Race Roster site will have a processing fee added to the entry fee please see for details. Entries received after Friday, November 13, 2015 will be considered late and, if accepted, will be charged double. Scratch Deadline: Scratches and changes will be accepted until noon (12:00 p.m.) on Tuesday, November 17, There will be no refunds of entries for scratches made after the scratch deadline. Performance List will be available on the Last Chance web page the evening of November 13, Tentative meet schedule will be available beginning November 15; finalized meet schedule will be available late in the evening (after 10:00 p.m.) on Thursday, November 19. Age Categories: Tyke born 2006 or later; Pee Wee born ; Bantam born ; Midget born ; Youth born ; Junior born ; Senior born ; Masters born November 21, 1980 or earlier. Updated :40 Page 3
4 Multiple Events Offered: Pee Wee: Saturday: 60m, 600m, Long Jump Sunday: 200m, Shot Put, High Jump Bantam: Saturday: 60m, Shot Put, 600m, High Jump Sunday: 200m, Long Jump, Medicine Ball Throw, 800m Tyke: Sunday: 60m, Standing Long Jump, Medicine Ball Throw Depending on number of entries, Tykes, Pee Wees, and Bantams may be placed in single year age groups. All multiple event track events will be scheduled at the same time. Different groups will perform field events in a different order the order will be set once entries are finalized. Multiple Events for Tyke, Pee Wee, and Bantam Specifications and Information: Ribbons for 1st 10th will be handed out for each event. Scores will be kept 1st place in each event gets 10 points, 2nd 9 points, 3rd 8 points, etc. down to 10th and below who get 1 point. Points from each event will be totaled and medals given to top 3 overall at the end of the day. Athletes may miss or scratch an event and continue the competition. Modified rules for field events: Standing Long Jump: Jump is done with feet together, no steps allowed. Falling or stepping back after landing results in a no jump being recorded. "Measurement is taken from the take off line to the back of the closest heel on landing." [From standing long jump.htm.] Pee Wee Long Jump: A 1m take off area will be used and jumps will be measured from the toe marking of where the athlete takes off. A fault will occur if the toe of the athlete is beyond the edge of the pit. Warm up is limited to 2 jumps each. For the competition, jumpers will have only 3 attempts and results will be calculated in the usual way. Medicine Ball Throw: Will be a chest pass from a straight line. The ball is held against the chest and must be pushed forward with both hands. One foot may be in front of the other, with one step permitted. The athlete must not step on/over the throw line. Measurement is to the point the ball first touches the floor. Athlete's chest must face forward at all times during the throw; trunk rotation techniques are not allowed. The results will be decided in the usual way after 3 attempts have been completed. Pee Wee High Jump: Three consecutive failures will eliminate the jumper from further competition. The starting height will be 0.80m. The bar will be raised by increments of 10cm until a height of 1.00m and by increments of 5cm thereafter. Standard rules apply for final jumper. Bantam High Jump: Three consecutive failures will eliminate the jumper from further competition. The starting height will be 0.90m. The bar will be raised by increments of 10cm until a height of 1.20m and by increments of 5cm thereafter. Standard rules apply for final jumper. Further clarification of the Multiple Events rules as well as instruction on the modified field events will be given on site. Senior technical specifications will be used for the Open category. Midget High Jump starting height will be 1.10 metres. Pole Vault minimum starting height is 1.60 metres. Competition will be split into flights based on starting height: below 3.0m for Open Women Flight 1, 3.0m or better for Flight 2; below 3.5m for Open Men Flight 1, 3.5m or better for Flight 2. Men and women may be combined based on heights. If the number of entries in sprint events requiring heats (i.e.: 60m, 200m) would normally warrant quarter finals or semi finals, an A/B final will instead be held. Updated :40 Page 6
