How did the United States become more involved in Vietnam under President Johnson? 3. How did the expansion of the U.S. role in Vietnam divide Americans? Which groups protested the war? In what ways did they protest against the war? 4. What effect did the war have on the 1968 presidential election? How did the policies of President Nixon bring change to the U.S. role in the war? 5. How was the fighting in the Vietnam War different from that in World War II? Why did this type of warfare make it difficult for the United States and South Vietnam to win the war? 6. How did the war end? Why was this considered a defeat for the United States? 7. What were the human costs of the war both to Americans and to the Vietnamese? What effect did the Vietnam War have on the Cold War? 8. Group Product: Using the information gathered from your research, prepare a crossword puzzle on the Vietnam War that contains at least 15 Vietnam War-related clues (descriptive words or phrases).
