We are proud to be an inclusive comprehensive school. We understand that young people today have many pressures placed upon them from an early age. Our role is to create a happy, stimulating learning environment that gives every child the confidence and resilience to face these pressures head on. We have high expectations of all of our students. At The Henry Beaufort School there are no limitations to individual success. We acknowledge the fundamental role that we play in the academic and moral education of young people. We celebrate the success of our students at every opportunity and take delight in the buzz and energy around the school site well beyond the official ending of the school day. We do not accept mediocrity or complacency. We understand the challenges that accompany our role as educationalists and we continue to work to find ways to refine and improve our practise. This is underpinned by our aim to be outstanding in everything that we do.

Why be ordinary when you can be extraordinary

In % of students achieved 5 or more A* to C grades including Maths and English. This is a 4% increase from Core Subjects In Maths 84% of all students achieved A* to C In English 82% of all students achieved A* to C in English In Science 77% of all students achieved 2 or more Science In Triple Science there was a 100% pass rate at A*-C grades Overall 8o% of all students achieved at least 5 GCSE A* to C grades 98% of students achieved 5 A* to G grades 25% of all grades awarded in Summer 2016 were A/A* 71% of students entered for the E-BACC achieved this award Provisional Progress 8 score: 0.34

From each different starting point, the proportions of pupils making and exceeding expected progress in English and in mathematics are high compared with national figures (Ofsted Outstanding). Students from all KS2 baseline levels exceeded National Expected Levels of Progress and National Exceeding Levels of Progress in both English and Maths: 85% of students achieved 3 Levels of Progress in English (69% National) 45% of students achieved 4 Levels of Progress in English (30% National) 9.5% of students achieved 5 levels of Progress in English 85% of students achieved 3 Levels of Progress in Maths (66% National) 55% of students achieved 4 Levels of Progress in Maths (30% National) 23.9% of students achieved 5 levels of Progress in Maths

So if before you were a C3 that will now be a grade 4 Where as a C1 would now be a grade 5 A**=9 (last year top 2.9% of A* students would have achieved this grade)

Most subjects will report to you in the new grading system 9-1. Additionally to this, some subjects will fine grade these e.g. 5+ or 5- Alongside the Current Level of Attainment will be your child s target grade in that subject. These are externally generated and based on attainment by students with similar prior attainment as your child. Home learning and Attitude grades will remain as they have in previous years, with a slight change to how we measure success in these areas: O = Outstanding G = Good E = Expected B = Below Expected

1. Are they smart enough? Presentation wise. 2. What time keeping habits are they developing? 3. What learning habits are they building every day? 4. Is your child like Julius Yego? 5. What do they need to learn before they can take the next step? 6. What are they getting up to at break time, lunch time or on Friday after school? 7. What picture are they painting for potential employers?

What is pupil premium? How do I apply? If parents complete a form and send it in to school, we can check their eligibility on the Hampshire Catering website. It will give an immediate answer and if it s a yes the Free School Meal markers can be applied in SIMS. If it s no then we will write to parents for further proof of their eligibility. What is the criteria? Income Support Income-based Jobseeker s Allowance Income-related Employment Support Allowance Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income, as assessed by HM Revenue and Customs, that does not exceed 16,190 Guarantee element of State Pension Credit What if my circumstances change? Hampshire Catering Service use the parents National Insurance Number to check eligibility, so when personal circumstances change a warning appears on the HCS printout the school receives daily. Once this happens a new form is sent to the parent asking for proof of their eligibility. Normally a student will remain on FSM for a further 6 weeks pending a new application. How can it help my child? Revision guides Trips Meals Tuition It s a good idea for the application to be renewed each year as this helps to keep school records up to date.

At Henry Beaufort School there are no limitations to individual success; We do not accept mediocrity or complacency WORK EXPERIENCE 17 TH 21 ST JULY 2017 Mrs Hill

At Henry Beaufort School there are no limitations to individual success; We do not accept mediocrity or complacency Why work experience? Provides an experience of what it s like to work & be part of the workforce. Different experience to being in school Increases employability May help to confirm future career plans Improves understanding of enterprise & business structures Most schools no longer offer work experience due to costs, organisation & staffing

At Henry Beaufort School there are no limitations to individual success; We do not accept mediocrity or complacency Why one week in July? Increasing demands on curriculum time Smoother transition into work experience sadly some placements were lost over the summer holidays and some of our more vulnerable students found the time delay difficult to manage. No controlled assessments at this time of year.

At Henry Beaufort School there are no limitations to individual success; We do not accept mediocrity or complacency What are the choices? Anything within reason-some placements are unsuitable for under 16s. risky work placements, e.g. food, animals, vehicles will require additional checks Can go out of Hampshire, but we are unable to carry out Health & Safety checks out of the county and therefore parents need to take full responsibility for these placements. No splitting between different placements Cannot be paid No unsociable hours

At Henry Beaufort School there are no limitations to individual success; We do not accept mediocrity or complacency Helping your child find a placement Database in school for students to use. New offers from Army & Be Wiser (Andover). No IBM direct applications this year. Often the best links are those from families & friends however, ensure this is an experience of work which takes students out of their familiar environment. Encourage your child to take an active part in finding their own placement don t do it for them!

At Henry Beaufort School there are no limitations to individual success; We do not accept mediocrity or complacency Employer form on our website Hand in to school reception no later than Wednesday 5 th January Please ensure the address is clear & complete Placements cannot be authorised without valid Employer s Liability Insurance

At Henry Beaufort School there are no limitations to individual success; We do not accept mediocrity or complacency What happens next We arrange Health & Safety checks through Hampshire County Council. The school pays for the 40 cost per student. We will contact you with details of the outcome of the checks when we receive it. We will contact the employer to confirm the placement for your child, but the student is expected to make contact too - thanking them for the opportunity & establishing further details

At Henry Beaufort School there are no limitations to individual success; We do not accept mediocrity or complacency During the placement Students make their own way to and from work. Students & employer fill in work experience log book A member of Henry Beaufort staff will be allocated to each student this member of staff will contact the employer & where possible arrange a visit to see the student & supervisor in the workplace If the student is ill or unable to attend work, the employer and the school must be informed If there is a problem with the placement, please contact the school (details in log book) Students should thank employer at the end of the week, e.g. card/letter

At Henry Beaufort School there are no limitations to individual success; We do not accept mediocrity or complacency After the placement Evaluation & feedback at school. Log book and any work experience letters, certificates & references are put into Record of Achievement folders ready for college/apprenticeship interviews in Year 11. Please be prepared to see a difference in your child following work experience it does wonders for maturity, confidence and an appreciation of you as working people. Any questions? Please ask Mrs Hill
