11 In effect CFDs are financial derivatives that allow investors to take advantage of prices moving up (long positions) or prices moving down (short positions) on underlying financial instruments, without having to take physical delivery of those instruments. So, a share CFD allows an investor to receive all the benefits of owning a stock without having to physically acquire it. Buying or selling the movement in the share price through a margined CFD replicates a physical equity trade. Trading with CFDs therefore gives you the opportunity to benefit regardless of whether the price of an instrument is falling or rising.
