Sing What Are You Doing? with your child. Take turns singing each of the parts in the song and doing the gestures. Play a game with your child and his or her friends, using the verbs from this lesson and the previous lessons. Ask What are you doing? Each child answers, Watch what I do! as he or she does the action. Then each child describes the action saying, I m (riding a bicycle). He s drawing. dancing, swimming, sleeping, drawing, singing, running, walking, reading Sing the Doing Things song with your child. Take turns singing each of the parts in the song. Have your child write the vocabulary words, or draw pictures of the words, on pieces of paper, one piece for each word. Fold the pieces of paper and mix them up. Then each of you take four papers and look at them. Put them in the order that you would like to do them and share it with each other, saying I m (reading). I m (drawing). I m (dancing). I m (singing). Next pretend that someone else is doing the activities. Ask each other What s he or she doing? Use the drawings to answer the question. Talk with your child about the different places family members are, using the vocabulary in this lesson and discuss what they are doing. Practice the Listen and Do verbs and then say them in a rhythmic pattern to create a chant. Listen to the Student Audio CD with your child and practice the correct pronunciation of each word, practicing all the sounds (t + u + b + silent e = tube) in the words. Then ask your child to say The Long U Phonics Chant along with the audio. Invite your child to read the Little Book Making Art. Encourage your child to write and draw stories of his or her own, using the phonics words. Encourage him or her to describe the actions by saying I m (brushing my teeth). Then point to each picture and ask your child Is (he jumping)? Have your child respond with Yes, (he) is. or No, (he) isn t. Take turns asking the questions. For extra practice, identify where the child is and say what he or she is doing.
