INTRODUCTION Edge Scoring Systems Edge Scoring Systems use the most sophisticated microprocessor and LED drive technology available. Each clock is designed to provide accurate timing and scoring features consistent with the high demands of sporting events. Package Contents Carefully inspect the carton for shipping damage before unpacking. If significant damage is found, keep all packaging and contact your shipper or Befour immediately. Claims must be filed with the shipper as soon as possible after receipt of damaged goods. The scoring system has been packaged in one carton and contains the following components: Scoreboard display Remote control & 9V alkaline battery Smart battery charger Accessory bag containing instruction manual, fence chain, support stakes Protective cover/sponsor advertising panel If any optional accessories are ordered with your system they may be shipped in the same package; the optional tripod kit is shipped in a separate carton. Features Day-Bright LED Digits: Easily readable from most angles, even in direct sunlight. Wireless Control: Radio controlled remote is easy to use and allows control of the scoring system from any location, with a range of approximately 300 feet. Multi-Sport Timing and Scoring: Clock can operate as a countdown timer, count up timer, circuit interval timer, stopwatch, and time of day clock. Loud Horn: Piercing through crowd noise, the 106dB horn sounds automatically at the end of each period (countdown timer mode). Volume is easily adjustable. Mounting Options: Set up your system on the ground or other flat surface with the built-in prop rods. Also equipped with hanging brackets, your scoring system can be mounted on a fence or a wall. The optional tripod kit elevates the system to 7 feet above the ground. 1

SETUP & TRANSPORT Recommended Display Position The Edge SS-5000 is designed with Day-Bright LED digits that are easily visible in sunlight. For best contrast and viewing angle, avoid placing the display in direct sunlight. Your viewing position may affect the intensity of the display when outside of the recommended viewing area Horizontal Viewing Area Top View Vertical Viewing Area Side View Prop Rod Setup Built-in prop rods, located on the back side of the scoreboard display, allow the system to be placed on the ground or other flat surface. From the bottom, lift up and rotate the prop rods outward until perpendicular to the back of the display. Place the support stakes into the ground with the hooks over the prop rods to secure. Your scoreboard should remain upright in moderate wind conditions. Fence Mounting A set of short chains and hooks are provided to assist in mounting the scoring system onto a fence. Place the chain hook into the key-shaped brackets on the back of the system; hang the other end of the hook onto the fence. Wall Mounting If the scoring system will be mounted on a wall, use the key-shaped brackets on the rear of the display to hang on the wall. Take note that the screws and wall must support the full weight of the scoring system.

Transport An integrated handle allows the scoring system to be easily carried like a briefcase. A protective cover is included and can be snapped onto the system to protect the display window during transport. The small ditty bag can be used to store the remote control, support stakes, and other accessories. Sponsor Advertising Panel The protective cover can also be used as a sponsor advertising panel; the back side is white and can be screened with the sponsor information. Multi-position placement allows the panel to be mounted in many locations, such as a fence, bleachers, wall, etc. Notes about the Scoring System Display Window To minimize glare, place the scoreboard in a location where sunlight does not shine directly on the display window. The display window is constructed of a thick polycarbonate that will withstand minor impact from such objects as a soccer ball, football, etc. Remote Control The range of the remote control may be affected by trees, buildings, and vehicles. Keep this in mind while setting up your scoring system. Environmental Effects A light rain shower should not damage your scoring system, as it was designed to be splash and moisture resistant. However, it was not designed for snow or heavy rainfall and could be damaged in such a setting. Condensation may form inside the system if subject to excessive moisture. 3

CONNECTIONS & CONTROLS Power Connections Edge Scoring Systems have multiple options to power the display. An internal rechargeable battery pack is the main supply. In addition, an approved external power source can also be used and are available as options for your system. All power connections are located on the left side of the scoreboard display, toward the bottom Item HORN VOLUME ON/OFF BUTTON CHARGING PORT EXTERNAL POWER INPUT Description Rotate dial in either direction to adjust horn volume. Turns the scoring system on or off when using battery power. Connect the smart charger to charge the internal battery pack. Input for an external power source such as an AC adapter. Using this port will not charge the internal battery pack. Left side of display On/Off Button If the scoring system display is currently off, press and hold the ON/OFF button for a few seconds to turn the scoreboard on. If currently on, press and hold the button to shut off the display. The ON/OFF button is disabled when using an external power source, with the following exception: Press and hold the ON/OFF button while unplugging the external power source to transfer power to the internal battery pack. If the ON/OFF button is not pressed and held the scoreboard will shut off when the external power supply is unplugged. 4

Charging the Internal Battery Pack The main power source for your scoring system is an internal high-capacity NiMH battery pack. Proper recharge intervals and system storage ensure long, trouble-free battery life. Turn off the scoreboard before charging in order to properly charge the battery pack. Unless using an external power source, it is recommended that the scoreboard remain off during the entire charge cycle. Typical charge time is approximately 8 hours Plug round connector from smart charger firmly into the charging port on the left side of the scoreboard display. The connector has a groove that must be at a 1 o clock orientation to be plugged in correctly. Plug smart charger into a standard 110VAC wall outlet. Use an extension cord if necessary. Switch on charger must be set at 1.8A. LED indicator on smart charger is red while charging the battery pack. When the charge cycle is complete the LED will turn green. When charging is complete, unplug connector by pushing in on the charging port tab while pulling on the connector. Connector cannot be removed from port unless tab is pressed. Using External Power Source Your scoring system can also be powered from an approved external power source. Only sources purchased directly from Befour should be used; an AC adapter is available as an option. Using an external power source will not charge the internal battery pack. However, an external source can be used while the internal battery pack is charging. The display will turn on immediately when a source is plugged into the external power input port. 5

OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS Remote Control Edge Scoring Systems are remotely operated by using a wireless radio link. Typical range for transmission is approximately 300 feet (90 meters), although your performance may vary due to the location of the display and any obstacles in the path of the signal. The remote was designed to be weather-resistant and will not be harmed by a few raindrops. Do not allow the remote to get excessively wet. Avoid dropping, prolonged sunlight exposure and high humidity. A 9V alkaline battery (included) powers the remote control for three years. To avoid damage from battery leakage, remove the batteries if you anticipate the remote will not be used for an extended period. It is recommended that you charge the battery pack immediately. The display has an automatic power-off that will occur if the battery pack voltage gets to a critical low level. Three beeps will sound to indicate the scoreboard has shut off. 8
