The figure represents an increase of 600 jobs over the month but a decrease of 6,400 jobs over the year. This is the 16 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. Private sector employment was es mated at 1,652,200, an increase of 500 jobs over the month but a loss of 3,200 jobs over the year. This shows 15 consecu ve months with an over-the-year loss following 59 consecu ve months of over-the-year increases. Over the month the largest gain was seen in the leisure and hospitality sector which added 1,800 jobs. The accommoda on and food services subsector rose by 1,600 jobs. Trade, transporta on, and u li es rose by 1,300 jobs. Informa on gained 600 jobs from October to show an increase in back to back months. Construc on added 400 jobs while government employment showed a slight gain of 100 jobs. The other services sector showed no change over the month. The largest decline from October was seen in the educa on and health services sector which dropped by 1,700 jobs. This is the sector s first over-the-month decline in since The health care and social assistance subsector lost 1,900 jobs. Mining and logging fell by 900 jobs, its first over-the-month loss since July. Manufacturing fell by 500 jobs as nondurable goods manufacturing lost 1,000 jobs. Manufacturing has lost jobs over the month in 11 of the last 13 months. Professional and business services lost 300 jobs from October, while financial ac vi es fell by 200 jobs. Financial ac vi es has lost jobs over the month in 20 of the last 25 months. Over the year the largest gain was seen in the educa on and health services sector which added 8,400 jobs. The series has added jobs over the year every month since October The health care and social assistance subsector added 5,900 of those jobs. Construc on added 2,700 jobs over the year and has not shown an over-the-year loss for 13 straight months. Informa on added 900 jobs from last year for its fi h consecu ve increase. Professional and business services added 700 jobs, showing back to back gains a er 12 months of losses. Financial ac vi es added 200 jobs. The largest over-the-year decline occurred in the manufacturing sector which lost 7,700 jobs, its 21 st consecu ve annual loss. Durable goods manufacturing was responsible for 6,400 of the jobs lost. Mining and logging lost 5,400 jobs, its 23 rd straight month with an annual decline. Government showed 3,200 fewer jobs than in 2015, with state government losing 3,500 jobs. Leisure and hospitality lost 2,400 jobs as the arts, entertainment, and recrea on subsector fell by 2,000 jobs. Leisure and hospitality has lost jobs over the year for five consecu ve months. Other services lost 500 jobs, its third straight over-the-year loss. Trade, transporta on, and u li es fell by 100 jobs and has lost jobs over the year in 12 of the last 14 months. The preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Louisiana decreased to 6.2 percent from the October revised rate of 6.3 percent. The na onal unemployment rate for decreased to 4.6 percent from the October rate of 4.9 percent. Total unemployment in the state for was 130,986. 3 3 State and Area Employment STATEWIDE Louisiana s total nonfarm not seasonally adjusted employment was es mated at 1,991,800 for. The es mate represents a gain of 4,200 jobs over the month but a loss of 6,200 jobs from The es mate shows 16 consecu ve months with an over-the-year loss. The total private employment figure was es mated at 1,662,300 in. Private sector employment showed an over-the-month increase of 2,500 jobs but lost 3,100 jobs from This shows 16 consecu ve months with over-the-year losses a er 59 consecu ve months of gains. Over the month the largest increase was seen in the trade, transporta on, and u li es sector which added 6,600 jobs. The retail trade subsector increased by 6,300 jobs. Leisure and hospitality rose by 1,800 jobs, as the food services and drinking places subsector rose by 1,500 jobs. Leisure and hospitality has seen back to back monthly gains. Government rose by 1,700 jobs with state government adding 1,300 jobs. State government has added jobs in every year since Informa on rose by 600 jobs while other services showed no change. The largest decline over the month occurred in the educa on and health services sector, which lost 1,900 jobs. Professional and business services fell by 1,300 a er showing gains for three straight months. Construc on dropped by 1,100 jobs, with heavy and civil engineering losing 2,200 jobs. Manufacturing lost 700 jobs, all in nondurable goods, and has lost jobs over the month in 20 of the last 25 months. Educa on and health services showed the largest over-the-year sector increase by adding 8,300 jobs with the health care and social assistance subsector increasing by 5,900 jobs. Educa on and health services has added jobs over the year every month since October Construc on added 2,800 jobs from last year, the 12 th gain in the last 13 months. Informa on added 900 jobs from last year for its fi h consecu ve over-the-year gain. Professional and business services added 800 jobs over the year to show back to back gains a er a streak of 12 consecu ve losses. Financial ac vi es increased by 200 jobs. The largest over-the-year loss was in manufacturing which showed 7,700 fewer jobs than last, its 21st consecu ve loss. Durable goods manufacturing was down by 6,400 jobs. Mining and logging fell by 5,400 jobs, its 23 rd straight decline. Government lost 3,100 jobs as state government lost 3,400 jobs. State government has lost jobs over the year for 88 straight months. Leisure and hospitality showed 2,400 fewer jobs over the year as food services and drinking places lost 1,700 jobs. Other services showed 500 fewer jobs than last year. Trade, transporta on, and u li es lost 100 jobs, despite transporta on, warehousing, and u li es losing 3,200 jobs. The retail trade subsector added 4,900 jobs. ALEXANDRIA Total nonfarm employment for the Alexandria MSA was es mated at 63,900 for. This es mate shows a loss of 100 jobs over the month and a loss of 500 jobs over the year. The MSA has dropped jobs over-the-year in three of the last five months following 36 months of no losses. BATON ROUGE Total nonfarm employment for the Baton Rouge MSA was es mated at 420,800 for. The es mate shows a loss of 1,000 jobs over the month but an increase of 10,500 jobs over the year. Baton Rouge has added jobs over the year every month since January Over the month trade, transporta on, and u li es added 1,200 jobs while construc on lost 2,500 jobs. Over the year, construc on added 2,400 jobs, its 13 th straight annual gain. Trade, transporta on, and u li es increased by 3,000 jobs as retail trade added 2,700 jobs. Leisure and hospitality rose by 2,300 jobs while educa on and health services added 1,300 jobs from last.

4 4 HAMMOND The Hammond MSA total nonfarm employment was es mated at 44,200 for. This figure shows no change either over the month or over the year. Goods producing employment fell by 400 jobs over the year. Service providing employment added 400 jobs over the year. HOUMA Total nonfarm employment in the Houma MSA was es mated at 92,700 for. This shows a loss of 900 jobs over the month and a decline of 2,100 jobs over the year. Trade, transporta on, and u li es lost 600 jobs over the month and lost 2,800 jobs over the year. Mining and logging lost 600 jobs over the year, its 22 nd consecu ve month with an over-theyear loss. LAFAYETTE Total nonfarm employment for the Lafaye e MSA was es mated at 205,100 for. This represents a loss of 600 jobs over the month and a loss of 7,200 jobs over the year. The MSA has lost jobs over the year for 22 consecu ve months. Over the month, both the mining and logging sector and the professional and business services sector lost 400 jobs each. Over the year manufacturing lost 2,800 jobs from last, its 25 th straight month with an over-the-year decline. Mining and logging was down 2,500 jobs, its 23 rd consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. Professional and business services lost 1,600 jobs, its 21 st consecu ve over-the-year loss. LAKE CHARLES Total nonfarm employment for the Lake Charles MSA was es mated at 106,600 for. This shows a no change over the month and a gain of 2,100 jobs over the year. It is the 65 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year increase. The construc on sector and the manufacturing sector each lost 200 jobs over the month. Construc on added 1,800 jobs over the year for its 11 th consecu ve month with an increase. Manufacturing lost 400 jobs over the year while leisure and hospitality lost 300. MONROE Total nonfarm employment for the Monroe MSA was es mated at 80,000 for. This shows no change over the month and an increase of 600 jobs over the year. The MSA has added jobs over the year for 24 consecu ve months. Educa on and health services added 300 jobs over the year. Trade, transporta on, and u li es added 100 jobs over the year despite retail trade falling by 300 jobs. Government lost 300 jobs over the year. Manufacturing lost 200 jobs from last. NEW ORLEANS Total nonfarm employment for the New Orleans MSA was es mated at 578,800 for. This shows a gain of 2,500 jobs over the month and 3,800 jobs over the year. Over the month, trade, transporta on, and u li es added 2,600 jobs as retail trade rose by 2,500 jobs. Over the year, educa on and health services added 3,900 jobs. The health care and social assistance subsector accounted for 3,100 jobs of the over-the-year gain. Financial ac vi es rose by 800 jobs from last. Construc on lost 1,300 jobs over the year. Manufacturing lost 200 jobs over the year, its fourth straight annual loss. Mining and logging declined by 600 over the year. Mining and logging has lost jobs over the year for 22 straight months. SHREVEPORT Total nonfarm employment for the Shreveport MSA was es mated at 182,900 for. This shows a gain of 600 jobs over the month but a loss of 1,400 jobs over the year.
