1 Chromira Lab TECHNICAL SUPPORT DOCUMENT CL August 2008 Installation of Eccentric Bushings in Chromira LAB Processor Racks In cases where there are frequent paper jams in the Chromira 5x50 Pro Lab paper processor tank section, it has been found that tightening the grip on a certain pair of rollers in each of the five Paper Transport Racks in the machine, will eliminate this problem. This procedure will require about one-half to one hour to complete. You will need a screwdriver and a Drill motor. Included in the Eccentric Bushing Installation Kit, are the following parts: 11 pcs - Eccentric Bushing 11 pcs - #4 x 3/8 Screw, 316 Stainless Steel 1 pc - Drill Guide Tool 1 pc - #43 Drill Bit Note This procedure requires 10 pieces each of the Eccentric Bushings and the Screws. One extra of each is included as a spare. The procedure for each Rack is as follows. It is recommended that you start with the Developer Rack and work toward the last Wash Rack. 1. Remove the Rack from the machine 2. Locate the Bushings to be replaced, as shown in Figure 1. The new Eccentric Bushings will replace the existing ones. This will allow the adjustment of the pressure between the rubber roller and its neighboring roller. 3. Start at the Drain-End of the Rack, the end with many white gears. The Bushing on this side is near the bottom, and has no gear covering it. 4. Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to pry the existing Bushing straight out from the side of the Rack, as shown in Figure Insert the Drilling Guide Tool into the hole where you removed the bushing. The roller s shaft will insert into the hole in the Tool. Place the Tool flush against the face of the Rack, and pivot it until the Nub at the end of the Tool touches the vertical side of the Rack s end plate. See Figure With the Drill Guide in position, use a #42 (or 3/32 ) drill bit to drill a hole in the end plate of the Rack. Be very careful that you only drill through the side place, about 3/8 (or 10mm). See Figure Remove the Drill Guide from the hole. 8. Insert the new Eccentric Bushing, as shown in Figure Rotate the Bushing counter-clockwise until you feel it stop. When you feel resistance in the rotation, this indicates that the roller has contacted the neighboring roller. 10. Note the position of the hole that you drilled in Step #6, in relation to the notches in the edge of the Eccentric Bushing. Continue rotating the Bushing for one more notch to move the roller in tighter against its neighbor. 11. Install one of the screws provided, into the hole, and tighten it. This will lock the new Eccentric Bushing in place, giving the proper engagement between the bottom rollers. Figure 4a shows the new Eccentric Bushing installed and screwed in.

2 12. Repeat this process on the other end of the Rack, the Drive-End. On this end of the Rack, the roller shaft has a Gear installed on it. This Gear will need to be removed. 13. Remove the Gear by first pulling off the small black Retainer Clip from the end of the shaft. The Gear will then simply slide off the end of the Shaft. See Figure Pry the old bushing out from the Rack using a screwdriver, as you did in Step #4 on the other end of the Rack. 15. Insert the Drill Guide over the end of the roller shaft, and into the hole in the end plate. Make sure the flat surface of the Guide Tool is seated against the face of the End Plate. See Figure Rotate the Tool downward until the nub on the end contacts the vertical edge of the Rack. 17. With the Tool in this position, drill a hole in the end plate of the Rack using a #42 or 3/32 drill bit. Be sure to only drill through the end plate and not into the roller. See Figure Once the hole is drilled, remove the guide, and install the new Eccentric Bushing. 19. Rotate the Eccentric bushing as you did on the other end of the Rack, but this time rotate it clockwise, until you feel it stop. Then rotate the Eccentric Bushing one notch further. See Figure Install and tighten the screw to lock the Bushing in place. Fig 1

4 Fig 4 N Fig 4a Note: If when rotating the bushing Counter-Clockwise, (Fig 4) the roller comes in contact with the metal guide, then instead rotate the bushing clockwise so that the rubber roller contacts the inside roller and does not contact the metal guide.

6 Fig 7 Note: If when rotating the bushing Clockwise, (Fig 7) the roller comes in contact with the metal guide, then instead rotate the bushing counterclockwise so that the rubber roller contacts the inside roller and does not contact the metal guide. The bushing should be rotated in the opposite direction of the bushing indicated in Fig 4 and the associated note.
