3 Introduction This document provides examples of using the VLAN management function to deploy VLANs on the IMC Platform. You can perform the following VLAN configurations by using the VLAN management function: Deploying VLANs for specific devices and ports. Configuring access, trunk, and hybrid ports. For example, you can modify the PVID for an access port, assign a trunk port to multiple VLANs, or configure a hybrid port as a tagged member of specific VLANs. Configuring VLAN interfaces. Example: Deploying the VLAN Network requirements As shown in Figure 1, Lab-2 and Lab-3 are Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, respectively. Lab-3 acts as the gateway for PC A. Perform the following tasks so PC A can communicate with hosts in other VLANs: Assign GigabitEthernet 2/0/10 on Lab-2 to VLAN 10. Configure GigabitEthernet 2/0/24 on Lab-2 and GigabitEthernet 9/0/24 on Lab-3 as trunk ports to allow packets from VLANs 1 and 10 to pass through. Configure VLAN-interface 10 on Lab-3. 1

4 Figure 1 Network diagram Configuration restrictions and guidelines When you deploy a VLAN, follow these restrictions and guidelines: A VLAN ID is in the range of 1 to The length of a VLAN name cannot exceed 32 characters. A VLAN name supports only alphabetical characters, numbers, and spaces, and must start with an alphabetical character. To ensure correct network communication, do not configure a VLAN interface for a VLAN that is being used. Deploying VLAN Log in to IMC. 2. Click the Service tab. 3. From the left navigation tree, select VLAN Management > Batch Deploy. The page for configuring batch deployment appears. 2

5 Figure 2 Batch deployment page 4. Click VLAN. The page for deploying a VLAN appears. 5. In the Basic Information area, enter 10 and VLAN 10 in the VLAN ID and VLAN Name fields, respectively. 6 Figure 4 Selecting devices (1) 7. In the Query Conditions area, select a view from the view list. Devices in this view appear in the Devices found area. Figure 5 Selecting devices (2) 8. Select Lab-2, and click the Add selected icon. Lab-2 appears in the Selected Devices area. 4

Select the port GigabitEthernet2/0/10 from the port list, and click the Copy icon. 13. Click OK. Figure 9 Adding a port 14. On the page as shown in Figure 8, click Set Virtual Interface for Lab-3. A window for configuring the VLAN interface appears. 6

9 Figure 10 Configuring the VLAN interface 15. Enter and in the IP address and Mask fields, respectively. 16. Click OK. The page for deploying VLAN information appears again. Deployment information is displayed in the VLAN area. 17. Click OK to deploy VLAN information. Figure 11 VLAN deployment information Deploying trunk ports 1. Click the Service tab. 2. From the left navigation tree, select VLAN Management > Batch Deploy. The page for configuring batch deployment appears. Figure 12 Batch deployment page 7

10 3. Click Trunk Ports. A trunk port configuration page appears. 4. Enter 1 in the PVID field. 5. Enter 1 and 10, separated by a comma (,), in the Allowed VLAN field. 12 9. Select GigabitEthernet2/0/24, and click the Add selected icon. GigabitEthernet 2/0/24 appears in the Selected Interfaces area. Figure 17 Selecting trunk ports (4) 10. Select GigabitEthernet 9/0/24 of Lab-3 in the same way you select GigabitEthernet 2/0/24 of Lab-2. GigabitEthernet 9/0/24 appears in the Selected Interfaces area. Figure 18 Selecting trunk ports (5) 11. Click OK. The page for deploying trunk ports appears again. The selected trunk ports appear in the Trunk Ports area. 10

13 12. Click OK to deploy trunk port information. Figure 19 Deploying trunk ports Verifying the configuration Verify that VLAN 10 and the trunk ports have been correctly deployed. 1. Click the Service tab. 2. From the left navigation tree, select VLAN Management > VLAN Deployment Task. The page that displays the deployment result appears. Figure 20 Displaying the deployment result 3. Click the Details icon for Deploy VLANs. The page as shown in Figure 21 appears, showing that VLAN 10 has been correctly deployed. 11

The page as shown in Figure 22 appears, showing that two trunk ports have been correctly deployed.
