2 A Can Do Girls Club is a group of girls who believe they can do anything and want to do these 3 things: 1) Help ALL girls believe they can do anything! 2) Help others in their neighborhood, school and town! 3) Have fun with friends! A Can Do Girls Club is for any girl and every girl! Get together with your friends and create a Can Do Girls Club with the help of this kit! Hold Can Do Girls Club meetings and get-togethers anywhere in your school, at a park or at home. Thank you for starting a Can Do Girls Club! - Your friends at the Confidence Coalition 2

3 1 Ask friends to join your club. Use the sign-up sheet on the next page! 2 Get together with your friends to decide on all the specifics of your club consider club colors, mascot, symbol, cheer, theme song, etc. 3 Hold Can Do Girls Club meetings to stay connected! 4 Choose and participate in activities to spread confidence, have fun and make your world a better place! 3

5 Gather with your club members to create an identity for your Can Do Girls Club! Write down these club facts on the next page. COLORS: Choose club colors. Ask your friends what their favorite color is. Maybe most of you have the same favorite! QUOTE/SLOGAN: Choose a quote for your club. Consider one of these or make up your own! She can do anything! Reach for the stars! I can do anything! MASCOT/SYMBOL: Go Confidently! Pick a club mascot and/or symbol! THEME SONG: Pick a song. Look at the suggestions below or come up with your own! 6 Make a copy for each member of your Can Do Girls Club! 6

7 The first time your club meets, talk about these things: Tell your friends what a Can Do Girls Club is and why you wanted to start the club. Have friends sign the Confidence Pledge for Girls (on the next page!) Have every friend write down her dreams and make a list of three things she wants to do or achieve. At the end of the list, write I CAN DO anything! Brainstorm activities you can do as Can Do girls! (see page 9 for ideas!) Pick one to do next time you get together. Fhav Have your friends take the Can Do Girl Quiz (on page 10) to figure out what type of Can Do girl she is and why the club needs HER! 7

8 Try to meet with your Can Do Girls Club every two weeks or once a month. Work with parents and guardians to help you plan locations and times! Use this agenda to help run your meetings. 1 Get everyone s attention and let them know the meeting is about to begin. Have all members sit in a circle. The Can Do Captain for the week calls roll. Who s here and who s missing? 2 Go around the room and let every Can Do girl tell one way she s been encouraging others in her class, family, neighborhood or community. 3 Choose an activity for the day. See page 10 for ideas. 4 After your activity, get the club members together again in a circle. Decide who is going to be the Can Do Captain for the next meeting. Every member of the club will have a chance to be the leader (the Can Do Captain) and also a chance to follow the lead of a friend! 8

9 5 Let members share ideas for future events and activities. As a group, think of any girls who haven t joined the club that have a Can Do attitude and be great members. Invite them to your next Can Do Club meeting and event! 16 The Can Do Captain reminds the club about the Confidence pledge they took and how they can make other girls and women feel confident. They can do this through kind words, encouraging notes and having a Can Do attitude. 7 The Can Do Captain for the week should remind members of the place and time of the next meeting. Thank the members for coming. Close the meeting with your club cheer or song! 9

11 Here are some activity suggestions for your Can Do Girls Club. Feel free to make up your own, too! Make friendship bracelets. Rollerblade, bike ride or take a walk. Put on a play or fashion show. Write a book; every member writes and designs a page. Paint a picture of our favorite part of nature tree, fish, mountains, etc. Pick up trash around a school building or our neighborhood. Write special notes to our teachers and girls in our class. Be a part of the You Make Me SMILE Campaign (see page 12). Inspire others with Take Note You re Great (see page 13). Walk a dog for a friend, mom or neighbor. With the help of an adult, bake cookies or muffins for family and friends. Make Can Do cards and posters for your fellow Can Do Girl Club members. 12 Every Can Do girl is a leader, but we all have different strengths. Read below to figure out what kind of Can Do girl you are! Keep in mind you may be more than one! Can Do Dreamer Can Do Organizer This friend is the one to come up with fabulous ideas! She thinks of new and exciting ways to do things and has high hopes for herself and the rest of the Can Do girls. The Can Do club needs her! This friend is the type of girl who likes her pencil box neat and her shoes in a row. She will make sure the club knows where they are and what they re doing. The Can Do club needs her! Can Do Thinker Can Do Exciter This Can Do girl is a friend who is a sharp thinker. She doesn t always have a lot to say, but that is her strength! She s smart and always makes sure her Can Do friends are safe. The Can Do club needs her! This Can Do girl is the friend who is always cheering people up or cheering people on. She has a smile on her face and helps others see the bright side of any situation! The Can Do club needs her! 12

13 The You Make Me SMILE Campaign is designed to brighten a woman or girl s day by making her smile with a confidence-boosting message. The blue balloons have the Confidence Coalition logo and website on one side and are blank on the other. Inflate the balloons, and write confidence-boosting messages on the blank side of the balloons. This can be done at school, at a community service event, at a mall, at a park, on the street, etc. Supplies: Helium (you can get a small tank at a local party supply store for around $35). This should be enough for balloons. Black or dark blue Sharpies or permanent markers. Ribbon to tie balloons. Any number of girls, a great attitude and a SMILE! How to Get Started: Before you begin, come up with some messages to write on the balloons. Here are some examples You can do anything! You can change the world! You are beautiful inside and out! Dream BIG! Believe in Yourself! Anything is possible! Follow your dreams! Go Confidently! 13

14 Take Note You Are Great! is designed to help inspire confidence in girls and women. Get a notepad or pack of sticky notes and write uplifting messages on each sheet, or use a napkin at a restaurant, a chalkboard, anything that you can write on! Use these ideas or create your own messages. Think, what would you like someone to say to you? You can do it! You are special just as you are! Love yourself like others love you! Walk confidently! You are incredible! Be you, because you are GREAT! SMILE! Someone thinks you re awesome! Now place the notes all around town. Leave notes in places like these: mirrors in the restroom at the mall, at your place of employment, or at your school; car windows; neighbor s front doors; a fellow student s locker or binder; a friends handbag a coworker s cubby; computer screen at the library; on a shopping cart at the grocery store; mirror in the dressing room of your favorite clothing store. 14

15 A project of the Confidence Coalition, the Go Confidently! Collection is a handbag drive to benefit women and teen girls in need. After all, a new handbag can help any girl walk more confidently. Think about how you walk a little taller with a new bag on your shoulder! A simple act on your part may be just the thing to give another girl a little boost of confidence to realize her dreams. And it s as easy as 1-2-3! 1. Ask girls in your Can Do Girls Club to donate new and gently-used handbags. Members can also ask their mom, sister, neighbor, etc. to donate handbags. Then, they can bring the bags to your next Can Do meeting. 2. Write encouraging notes that include the Confidence Coalition website address ( and include a note in each bag. 3. Choose a local organization that serves underprivileged teens and/or women. Ideas include a battered women s shelter, Dress For Success, local Girl Scout council, etc. Then, work with an adult to deliver the handbags to the organization your club chooses. 15

19 Confidence = belief in yourself and your abilities. Work together to help girls in your club feel confident! Then, spread confidence to others. We don t always agree, and that s okay. However, it s important that we are respectful to each other. If your club encounters a disagreement, use these steps: Think about the problem. Say what you feel. Listen to the other person(s). Brainstorm solutions. Decide what each one will do. Stick to what you have decided. Talk again if the solution is not working. Always Never Be willing to talk AND listen Think before you speak Welcome other people's opinions Be polite Look at someone when they are speaking Gossip Use mean words Interrupt someone when they are talking Roll your eyes 19
