The window below is displayed if it is logged on with other than the administrator's account. Hard Disk Format Tool V3.21 User's Guide ( 30 / 35 )

- Log on with the administrator's account if you use this software on Windows Vista. The window below is displayed if it is logged on with other than the administrator's account. * When the User Account Control is valid * When the User Account Control is invalid - Reconnect the HandyDrive after using this software. When you reconnect the HandyDrive, execute [Remove Hardware] in the task tray to make it removable before you remove the HandyDrive and then reconnect it. Refer to the Quick Start Guide for the method to remove it. - When you remove the hardware after using this software, the error message below may be displayed and it becomes unremovable. Hard Disk Format Tool V3.21 User's Guide ( 31 / 35 )

- The process may take a while depending on the function. Connect an AC adapter to the PC to prevent shortage of battery power during the process if using on a notebook PC. - This software can only create a maximum of 8 partitions. Hard Disk Format Tool V3.21 User's Guide ( 32 / 35 )

[4] Trouble Shooting 4.1 About Operation Why is the displayed maximum capacity of this software smaller than the capacity indicated on the outer case? This is the difference by the calculation method. Generally, it is calculated as follows. 1GB = 1000MB = KB = Byte On Windows, it is calculated as: 1GB = 1024MB = KB = Byte Since this software adopts the same calculation method as Windows, the error occurs. For example, when using 100GB in FAT32 and one partition, it becomes 93.1GB on Windows. Why is there an used area in the partition just after the format execution? This is because the management data (file system) to manage files and folders is written in the partition just after the format execution. Format execution cannot be executed. There are cases that [Logical format] cannot be executed even a partition is specified when the partition is operated by a software other than this software or management tools of Windows. The conditions when [Logical format] cannot be executed and the measures are as follows. - When free space is selected where there are four prime areas Delete one prime area and the partition can be created. - When a partition or a free space of 512MB or less is selected -- Select another free space of 512MB or more. -- Delete existing partitions and keep a sufficient free space. - When there is a prime area between the selected free space and the extended area (logical drive) Delete all the prime areas between the selected free space and the extended area. Hard Disk Format Tool V3.21 User's Guide ( 33 / 35 )

4.2 Glossary What does [Active] mean? This is the information indicating if the partition becomes the start-up drive. When Active=ON, Windows starts from the partition. Normally, the prime area of the hard disk contained in the PC becomes active and all the partition in the HandyDrive becomes Active=OFF. What do [Prime area], [Extended area] and [Logical drive] mean? Each [Prime area] and [Extended area] is the type of partitions. Only one prime area is normally created though maximum of four prime areas can be created on the hard disk. A logical drive is the unit which an extended area is divided into smaller units. You can create logical drives as many as you want in one extended area. What does [Partition] mean? It is the part or the area created by dividing the hard disk logically into multiple parts. One hard disk is used as multiple drives by dividing the hard disk into multiple partitions. What does [Hide] mean? This is the information if the partition is visible on My Computer. The partition is not displayed on My Computer when Hide=ON. What does [File System] mean? It is the whole system that manages naming, storage and composition of the file. There are types such as "FAT16," "FAT32" and "NTFS" and they are selected when installing Windows and formatting the hard disk. What does [Format] mean? This is the operation to enable write/read of data to hard disks and floppy disks etc. All the recorded data are deleted when formatting is executed.
