4 Dental Services in If you need to see a dentist in for regular check ups and treatment you can choose who you want to go and see. General Dental Practitioners (Family dentists) PCT Salaried Dental Service Hospital Dental Service* You are advised to visit a dentist regularly whether you have natural teeth or wear dentures so that they can assess your oral and general health. As more and more people are keeping their own natural teeth nowadays it is very important to look after them. * The hospital dental service do not offer routine check ups and treatment, but you may be referred here. Family Dentists (General Dental Practitioners) Family dentists see all sorts of people for treatment but you may have special needs that they cannot meet. These dentists can refer you to the PCT dental service if you or they feel that you need more specialised care. There are 36 NHS General Dental Practices in that you can access. They welcome new patients of all ages and joining is free. You can get help to find a family dentist by ringing Or look online at pages/trust.aspx?id=5mv&v=3 4
5 PCT Salaried Dental Service We provide NHS dental services for people who cannot attend a family dentist and who are registered with GPs. We are used to treating people with special needs and have the time to spend with people who need extra time spent with them so that they can have dental treatment. You can be referred to our service by your current dentist, or you can ring us yourselves to make an appointment. You should either ring your local clinic or the Dental Management Office will help you to find a suitable appointment. Hospital Dental Service You may need to be referred for more specialised dental treatment by your dentist. You may need to visit New Cross Hospital or the Birmingham Dental Hospital. This will depend on your needs and whether the local dentist can meet these needs. 5
