1 SHAVER CEMETERY ADAIR COUNTY, MISSOURI This cemetery brought to you by Laurie The land that Shaver Cemetery is part of (land that) was first purchased in 1850 by a Mr. Samuel Dillard from the United States Land Office in Booneville, Missouri. In about 1856, John Godfrey Shaver and his wife, Pollie Ann Peters Shaver, came to Missouri from Illinois and purchased the farm. In May of 1880, they deeded one acre to Adair County for the Shaver Cemetery. They lived the rest of their lives there and many of them and their descendants are buried in this grave yard as well as many from neighboring farms and families. A substantial gift for the care of the Cemetery was left by the late Mrs. Edith Bell. Her parents are buried there. This encouraged friends and relatives to form an Association for the Perpetual Care of the graves. This was accomplished in September of 1979 and Mr. Homer I. Johnson was elected as President. He has donated his time and labor to the upkeep of this Cemetery for many years. Information compiled by Mrs. Glen Stephenson. Shaver Cemetery is divided into four sections: s A, B, C, & D. s A & B being located at the top portion respectively. s C & D being located on the bottom portion respectively. Thereby forming a square. Each section is divided into 100 plots which have been assigned the Roman numerals I-X; which conveys the upper portion of the section. The numbers (begins at top of section and continues downward) represent the plots situated in sections A & B. The numbers 10-1 (begins at top of section and continues downward) represent the plots situated in sections C & D. Thereby giving one the exact location of the plot. For example: Plot C. III-10 would mean C., over three plots, and down one (because plot C begins with plot 10 at the top). Surname Given Name Birth Death Comments location Ashlock Albert A. IV-11 Ashlock Jesse B yrs. A.
