When concept was introduced it was unique thanks to its simplicity and versatility. One board and one sail has ever since attracted young talents as well as seasoned windsurfers, creating a global community built on fair racing paired with a great friendship. Every season new sailors and countries are attracted and join the community. Kona today is a brand built on the firm belief that more people can be attracted into the community by offering specific products targeting each market segment. The Kona Hula is a direct response to this. The board, with its unique design, is a complete novelty setting a new standard among school boards. Along with the new board the Kona Spark, a new school sail line, is offered introducing the concept of balanced power. 5 STEPONE Affordable performance Step One is built on the successful Kona One-design. It has the same measures as the one design class. Thanks to a simplified graphics, deck and dagger board it comes at a more affordable price. Carb One is constructed using carbon, also in the fin and dagger board, which makes it lighter and faster but also priced at a different level. The mast track is adjustable, which enables the waterline to be shortened when planning making jibing even easier. No compromises have been made when developing this top class board for high performance sailing outside the racing arena, not being class legal as a one design board. 7 HULA To achieve the best experience, we would like to recommend a sail from our Spark range together with this school board. Setting a new standard for school boards When Kona Windsurfing design team started the Hula-project the brief was a clear. The aim was to create a board that better than any other school board would help more sailors to windsurf faster and make it easy and enjoyable from the very first moment. With more than 30 years of windsurfing, coaching, teaching and design experience Tinho Dornella headed the project into success. Many unique design features are built into the Hula, stemming from decades of solid teaching experience and are desirable to windsurfing instructors. The popular Moloka i board has been equipped with a daggerboard improving its sailing qualities. It is well suited for the whole family that wants to learn to windsurf as well as to paddleboard. So it is even better for beginners or as a family board. It has a wide range of use, from playing and cruising to yoga and fitness training. With its larger volume it is well suited for the heavier paddler. Active 11.2 is equipped with two trusters, smaller side fins, which makes it possible also to test wave riding. With the Play 8.0 the kids will get their first experience of paddle boarding in the best possible way. It is also a board to grow with until the kid is ready to take the step to any of the other models. Play 8.0 is not only a paddle board. It is also prepared for a small sail on and a center fin. This will extend the experience and the young paddler will turn into a windsurfer. 13 ONE DESIGN SAIL For one design racing The One Design sail is Kona s most exclusive sail and the one to be used together with the Kona One. They are the two components that compose the one design class where the sail size is depended of the sailor s weight. The design of the sail has carefully been improved each season to perfection making this the sail to accompany the Kona One. Thanks to its great flexibility it will serve the sailor in all conditions. It can be rigged from full power in light conditions to reduced power making it enjoyable and controllable in winds exceeding 30 knots. It is extremely well balanced using a carbon mast. The sections of the sail taking the most pressure also have been reinforced for endurance and longtime use. The One Design sail is also available in a complete x-ply version (special order), aimed for windsurfing school. 25

16 SPARK SAIL Introducing balanced power When the Kona Windsurfing team began the develop ment of a new school sail line the ambition was clear create the best school sail ever. To achieve the goal Tinho Dornellas was given the responsibility to head the develop ment process, putting his 30 years of professional windsurfing experience into the process. Previously this season his latest school board design Kona Hula, was successfully introduced. The sail design is built upon Tinho s unique concept of balanced power. Kona Spark has a unique sail plan shape. The goal is to shorten the mast and produce as much power as possible, for each sail size, targeting each sailor weight and size with the proper sail so they can experience balanced power as soon as possible. It makes the board surge in speed without any effort. It means that performance and enjoyment goes hand in hand and ultimately results in a fast learning curve. 18 NEW KONA WINDSUP RIG True innovation that fits in the trunk Kona windsup rig is all about making it easy, from rigging to sailing and transporting. The windsup rig has been developed specifically for anyone that wants to enjoy easy comfortable windsurfing in light conditions. Folded the rig package fits into the trunk of the car or in a golf bag. Thanks to the fact that the sail is fully battened it has a very good aerodynamic shape. The big innovation is that the battens are removable enabling the sail to be folded into a small package. The sail is made in dacron which is very durable and well suited for windsupping. It comes in two sizes, 4.8 sqm and 5.8 sqm, the smaller best suited for light sailors and the the bigger for heavier or more experienced sailors. Despite being an innovation it is still very affordable and price competitive. Kona windsup rigs make the step into windsurfing easy.
